Morphological and microcirculatory evaluation of the rat testis after detorsion with or without a capsular release with a tunica vaginalis flap

Testicular torsion may lead to serious ischemia, and the viability depends on the duration of torsion and the effect of ischemia-reperfusion. Testicular decompression and tunica vaginalis flap application technique were introduced in 2008 by Kutikov et al. We aimed to examine the impact of this method on the testicular microcirculation and hemorheological parameters in a rat model. Six adult rats underwent bilateral scrotal exploration. Intravaginal torsion of the testis was created by 720° rotation on both sides for 2 h. After detorsion, the right testes underwent tunica albuginea incision and tunica vaginalis flap application. Testicular microcirculation was monitored and hematological parameters, erythrocyte deformability, and aggregation were determined. Measurements were performed before and after torsion, directly after detorsion, on the 1^st-2^nd and 8^th postoperative day. After the last sampling, testicles were removed to determine their volume for histological examinations. The microcirculatory parameters demonstrated slight differences between testicles. Apical zone of the left （nondecompressed） testicles had elevated compared to the middle zone （P 〈 0.05）. On the 2^nd and 8^th day, the microcirculation of the testes normalized but not equally. The erythrocyte aggregation and deformability decreased by the 8^th day. Both testicles underwent atrophy and epithelial necrosis, but the volume of the decompressed ones was lower （1.07±0.08 vs 1.25 ± 0.31）. Histologically, there was no significant difference in epithelial damage score between decompressed and nondecompressed testes. In conclusion, 2-h ischemia led to alteration in testicular microcirculation, reduction in volume, changes in hemorheological parameters and serious epithelial necrosis both in decompressed and nondecompressed testicles without remarkable differences.

Combining extractive heterogeneous-azeotropic distillation and hydrophilic pervaporation for enhanced separation of non-ideal ternary mixtures

The separation of non-ideal mixtures using distillation can be an extremely complex process and there continues to be a need to further improve these techniques.A new method which combines extractive heterogeneous-azeotropic distillation(EHAD)and hydrophilic pervapora-tion(HPV)for the separation of non-ideal termary mixtures is *** improved distillation method combines the benefits of heterogeneous-azeotropic and extractive distillations in one column but no added materials are needed as is usually the case with *** separation of water-methanol-ethyl acetate and water-methanol-isopropyl acetate mixtures were investigated to demonstrate the accuracy of the combined EHAD/HPV *** is not currently an established treatment strategy for the separation of the second mixtures in the *** separation processes were rigorously modelled and optimized using a professional *** objective functions were total cost and energy consumption and heat integration was also *** verification of the process modelling was carried out using laboratory-scale *** heterogeneous-distillation combined with methanol dehydration was found to be more efficient than conventional distillation for the separation of these highly non-ideal mixtures.

The 2-m aperture Chinese Space Station Telescope(CSST),which observes at wavelengths ranging from 255 to 1000 nm,is expected to start science operations in *** ultra-deep field observation program covering approximately 10 deg2is proposed with supernovae(SNe) and other transients as one of its primary science *** paper presents the simulated detection results of type Ⅰa supernovae(SNe Ⅰa) and explores the impact of new datasets on the determinations of cosmological *** simulated observations are conducted with an exposure time of 150 s and cadences of 10,20,and 30 *** survey mode covering a total of 80 observations but with a random cadence in the range of 4 to 14 d is also *** simulation results indicate that the CSST can detect up to ~1800 SNe la at z <*** simulated SNe la are then used to constrain the cosmological *** constraint on can be improved by 37.5% using the 10-d cadence sample in comparison with the Pantheon sample.A deeper measurement simulation with a 300 s exposure time together with the Pantheon sample improves the current constraints on Ωmby 58.3% and ω by 47.7%.Taking future lager sets of nearby SN Ⅰa sample form ground-based surveys(i.e.,N~3400) into consideration,the constraints on ω can be improved by 59.1%.The CSST ultra-deep field observation program is expected to discover large amounts of SNe la over a broad redshift span and enhance our understanding of the nature of dark energy.

Pervaporation is an important membrane separation method of chemical *** this work,silver-nanoparticles-poly(vinyl alcohol)nanocomposite membranes(AgNPs-PVA)are produced for the sake of improving its potentials for pervaporation of ethanol–water mixture so that the usual opposite trend between membrane selectivity and permeation can be *** nanocomposite membranes are fabricated from an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol)with silver nanoparticles via the in-situ generation technique in the absence of any reducing *** generation of the nano size silver is measured by the UV–vis spectrum showing a single peak at 419 nm due to the plasmonic effect of silver *** nanocomposite AgNPs-PVA membranes are characterized using scanning electron microscope(SEM),Fourier-transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).The pervaporation tests of our new AgNPs-PVA membranes show good results since at a higher temperature and higher ethanol concentration in the feed,the prepared membranes are highly permeable for the water having stable selectivity values and therefore our membranes show better performance compared to that of the other PVA-based nanocomposite membranes.

Calcium-sensing receptor in colorectal inflammation and cancer:Current insights and future perspectives

The extracellular calcium-sensing receptor(CaSR) is best known for its action in the parathyroid gland and kidneys where it controls body calcium homeostasis. However, the CaSR has different roles in the gastrointestinal tract, where it is ubiquitously expressed. In the colon, the CaSR is involved in controlling multiple mechanisms, including fluid transport, inflammation, cell proliferation and differentiation. Although the expression pattern and functions of the CaSR in the colonic microenvironment are far from being completely understood, evidence has been accumulating that the Ca SR might play a protective role against both colonic inflammation and colorectal cancer. For example, CaSR agonists such as dipeptides have been suggested to reduce colonic inflammation, while dietary calcium was shown to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. CaSR expression is lost in colonic malignancies, indicating that the CaSR is a biomarker for colonic cancer progression. This dual anti-inflammatory and anti-tumourigenic role of the CaSR makes it especially interesting in colitisassociated colorectal cancer. In this review, we describe the clinical and experimental evidence for the role of the CaSR in colonic inflammation and colorectal cancer, the intracellular signalling pathways which are putatively involved in these actions, and the possibilities to exploit these actions of the CaSR for future therapies of colonic inflammation and cancer.

AIM To describe the longitudinal course of acquisition of healthcare transition skills among adolescents and young adults with inflammatory bowel *** We recruited adolescents and young adults(AYA) with inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD), from the pediatric IBD clinic at the University of North Carolina. Participants completed the TRx ANSITION Scale? at least once during the study period(2006-2015). We used the electronic medical record to extract participants' clinical and demographic data. We used ordinary least square regressions with robust standard error clustered at patient level to explore the variations in the levels and growths of healthcare transition *** Our sample(n = 144) ranged in age from 14-22 years. Age was significantly and positively associated with both the level and growth of TRx ANSITION Scale? scores(P < 0.01). Many healthcare transition(HCT) skills were acquired between ages 12 and 14 years, but others were not mastered until after age 18, including self-management *** This is one of the first studies to describe the longitudinal course of HCT skill acquisition among AYA with IBD, providing benchmarks for evaluating transition interventions.

Development of Wearable Micro-actuator Array for 3-D Virtual Tactile Displays

A novel 4 by 4 array of electromagnetic micro-actuators operating on the principle of voice-coil actuators is presented. The intended application of the array is dynamic tactile stimulation, where multiple actuators generate an illusion of touching a moving pattern. In comparison to earlier designs [1-3], the device has smaller dimensions of 2.28 mm in diameter and 7 mm in length, which allowed its use in an array capable of hosting up to a 5 by 5 set of actuators with a rectangular shape covering an area of 18 mm by 21 mm. Using finite element analysis of several conceptual designs of actuators [1,4,5], it was established that the voice-coil type device (where the coil is the moving part) has most beneficial characteristics for the envisioned application. These include sufficient force over a relatively large distance, allowing tactile stimulation of surfaces with irregular shape, fast response, and small foot-print that matches the density of the tactile sensory neurons in the human finger. Eexperimental evaluation of the operation of neighboring actuators spaced at 3.3 mm apart, indicates that there is no crosstalk between the actuators. The resulting density exceeds that of previously reported alternative designs based on moveable permanent magnets [4,6]. Static force measurement indicate that each micro-actuator can produce at least 26 mN of repulsive force over a stroke of 2100 μm with a peak force of 34 mN. The driving circuit operates at 13.5V and generates a vibration frequency of up to 265 Hz without significant change of the force-displacement characteristics. In the higher frequency range (above 100 Hz) the actuator provides at least 15 mN of force over a slightly reduced stroke of 2300 μm, and a peak force of 21 mN. All of the above parameters meet the required threshold values of tactile human perception known from [2] and [3].

活性氧(ROS)在有氧代谢中以中度水平持续产生,有利于产生氧化还原信号,但数量较大时却能引起氧化损伤和神经退行性病变。由于大脑对ROS敏感度提高,在不同类型神经细胞中保持正常氧化还原状态尤为重要。过去10年的研究充分说明:有规律的运动对大脑功能产生有益影响,并对中风、老年痴呆和帕金森症的预防和治疗起重要作用。然而,研究运动的具体影响似乎又非常复杂,包括通过神经营养因子的神经发生、毛细血管化增加、氧化损伤减少,以及通过蛋白酶和脑啡肽酶的蛋白降解增加。来自我们及其他实验室的数据表明,运动诱导的ROS水平调节对蛋白含量以及脑源性神经营养因子(BDNF)、酪氨酸激酶B(TrkB)、cAMP反应元件结合蛋白(CREB)的表达有重要作用,有利于完善脑功能、增加神经生成。因此,运动诱导的氧化还原状态调节是一种重要方式,运动能通过这一方式造福于大脑功能、增强对氧化应激的抵抗力,协助从氧化应激中恢复、减弱年龄相关的认知能力下降。
