Serum complement C4a and its relation to liver fibrosis in children with chronic hepatitis C

AIm:To evaluate serum complement C4a and its relation to liver fibrosis in children with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV)***:The study included 30 children with chronic HCV infection before receiving antiviral *** HCV infection was defined by positive anti-HCV,a positive polymerase chain reaction for HCV-RNA for more than 6 mo with absence of any associated liver disease.A second group of 30 age-and sex-matched healthy children served as *** C4a levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** fibrosis stage and inflammatory grade were assessed using Ishak scoring *** C4a levels were compared according to different clinical,laboratory and histopathological *** significance for quantitative data was tested by mannWhitney U non-parametric *** qualitative data,significance between groups was tested by *** was tested by Spearman’s *** were considered significant if P value≤***:The age of the patients ranged from 3.5to 18 years and that of controls ranged from 4 to 17years.C4a mean levels were merely lower in patients(153.67±18.69 mg/L)than that in the controls(157.25±11.40 mg/L)with no statistical significance(P=0.378).It did not differ significantly in patients with elevated vs those with normal transaminases(152.25±16.62 vs 155.36±21.33;P=0.868)or with different HCV viremia(P=0.561).Furthermore,there was no statistical significant difference in serum levels between those with no/mild fibrosis and those with moderate fibrosis(154.65±20.59 vs 152.97±17.72;P=0.786)or minimal and mild activity(155.1±21.93 vs 152.99±17.43;P=0.809).Though statistically not significant,C4a was highest in fibrosis score 0(F0),decreasing in F1 and F2 to be the lowest in *** comparing significant fibrosis(Ishak score≥3)vs other stages,C4a was significantly lower in F3 compared to other fibrosis scores(143.55±2.33 mg/L vs 155.26±19.64 mg/L;P=0.047)and at a cutoff value of less

Ensemble machine Learning to Enhance Q8 Protein Secondary Structure Prediction

Protein structure prediction is one of the most essential objectives practiced by theoretical chemistry and bioinformatics as it is of a vital importance in medicine,biotechnology and *** secondary structure prediction(PSSP)has a significant role in the prediction of protein tertiary structure,as it bridges the gap between the protein primary sequences and tertiary structure *** secondary structures are classified into two categories:3-state category and 8-state *** the 3 states and the 8 states of secondary structures from protein sequences are called the Q3 prediction and the Q8 prediction problems,*** 8 classes of secondary structures reveal more precise structural information for a variety of applications than the 3 classes of secondary structures,however,Q8 prediction has been found to be very challenging,that is why all previous work done in PSSP have focused on Q3 *** this paper,we develop an ensemble machine Learning(mL)approach for Q8 PSSP to explore the performance of ensemble learning algorithms compared to that of individual mL algorithms in Q8 *** ensemble members considered for constructing the ensemble models are well known classifiers,namely SVm(Support Vector machines),KNN(K-Nearest Neighbor),DT(Decision Tree),RF(Random Forest),and NB(Naïve Bayes),with two feature extraction techniques,namely LDA(Linear Discriminate Analysis)and PCA(Principal Component Analysis).Experiments have been conducted for evaluating the performance of single models and ensemble models,with PCA and LDA,in Q8 *** novelty of this paper lies in the introduction of ensemble learning in Q8 PSSP *** experimental results confirmed that ensemble mL models are more accurate than individual mL *** also indicated that features extracted by LDA are more effective than those extracted by PCA.

A mathematical model is elaborated for the laminar flow of an Eyring-Powell fluid over a stretching *** considered non-Newtonian fluid has Prandtl number larger than *** effects of variable fluid properties and heat generation/absorption are also *** balance equations for fluid flow are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations through a similarity transformation and solved numerically using a Chebyshev spectral *** effect of various parameters on the rate of heat transfer in the thermal boundary regime is investigated,i.e.,thermal conductivity,the heat generation/absorption ratio and the mixed convection *** agreement appears to exist between theoretical predictions and the existing published results.

Therapeutic potential of Calotropis gigantea extract against invasive pulmonary aspergillosis:In vitro and in vivo study

Objective:To characterize the antifungal activity of methanolic leaf extract of Calotropis gigantea alone or in combination with amphotericin B against invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in ***:GC/mS was used for analysis of active constituents of Calotropis gigantea *** germination assay and broth micro-dilution method were used to determine antifungal potential of Calotropis gigantea/amphotericin B against Aspergillus *** mice were randomly assigned into 5 groups:group 1 was neutropenic(control);group 2 was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus;group 3 was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus,and treated with Calotropis gigantea extract;group 4 was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus and treated with amphotericin B;group 5 was infected with Aspergillus fumigatus and treated with both Calotropis gigantea extract and amphotericin *** lung tissues were histopathologically *** burden and gliotoxin concentration were evaluated in lung ***,superoxide dismutase,and malondialdehyde content were determined in lung ***,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,interleukin-1,and interleukin-17 were also estimated by the sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent ***:Calotropis gigantea/amphotericin B had a minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum fungicidal concentration of 80 and 160μg/mL,respectively,for Aspergillus ***,Calotropis gigantea/amphotericin B significantly reduced lung fungal burden by 72.95%and inhibited production of gliotoxin in lung tissues from 6320 to 1350μg/g *** gigantea/amphotericin B reduced the oxidative stress of the lung via elevating the activity of antioxidant enzymes and decreasing the levels of lipid *** activity and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines were also significantly *** electron microscopy revealed deteriorations in the hyphae ultrastructure in Calotropis gigantea/amphotericin B trea

The garnet muscovite granitic pegmatite of Um Solimate,in southern Egypt,represents a promising asset for strategic and economic metals,especially Bi-Ni-Ag-Nb-Ta as well as U and *** ore bodies occur as large masses,pockets and/or veins of very coarse-grained pegmatites,which consist mainly of K-feldspar,quartz and albite with subordinate muscovite,garnet,and *** data revealed that e U-and e Th-contents of the pegmatites reach up to 39 ppm and 82 ppm,*** studied pegmatites are enriched in primary U and Th minerals(uraninite,coffinite,thorianite and uranothorite)as well as Hf-rich zircon and monazite,which give rise to anomalous radioactive ***-tantalium-bearing minerals(***,microlite and uranopyrochlore),xenotime,barite,galena,fluorite,and apatite are ubiquitous,and,consequently,the studied pegmatites belong tothe Niobium-Yttrium-Fluorine-type(NYF)*** noble metal mineralization includes argentite(Ag_(2)S),native Ni and Bi as well as bismite and *** addition,beryl and tourmaline are observed in pegmatites near the contact with metasediments and ultramafic *** observed compositional variations of Ta/(Ta+Nb)and mn/(mn+Fe)ratios in columbite(0.08-0.45 and 0.11-0.57,respectively)and Hf contents in zircon(3.54-6.46 wt%)may reflectan extreme degree of magmatic fractionation leading to formation of the pegmatite orebody.

Nuclear fuel performance modeling and simulation are critical tasks for nuclear fuel design optimization and safety analysis under normal and transient *** performance is a complicated phenomenon that involves thermal,mechanical,and irradiation mechanisms and requires special multiphysics *** this study,a fuel performance model was developed using the COmSOL multiphysics *** modeling was performed for a 2D axis-symmetric geometry of a UO2fuel pellet in the E110 clad for VVER-1200 *** modeling considers all relevant phenomena,including heat generation and conduction,gap heat transfer,elastic strain,mechanical contact,thermal expansion,grain growth,densification,fission gas generation and release,fission product swelling,gap/plenum pressure,and cladding thermal and irradiation *** model was validated using a code-to-code evaluation of the fuel pellet centerline and surface temperatures in the case of constant power,in addition to validation of fission gas release(FGR)*** prediction proved that the model could perform according to previously published VVER nuclear fuel performance parameters.A sensitivity study was also conducted to assess the effects of uncertainty on some of the model *** model was then used to predict the VVER-1200 fuel performance parameters as a function of burnup,including the temperature profiles,gap width,fission gas release,and plenum pressure.A compilation of related material and thermomechanical models was conducted and included in the modeling to allow the user to investigate different material/performance *** the model was developed for normal operating conditions,it can be modified to include off-normal operating conditions.

With the rapid development of emerging 5G and beyond(B5G),Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)are increasingly important to improve the performance of dense cellular *** a conventional metric,coverage probability has been widely studied in communication systems due to the increasing density of users and complexity of the heterogeneous *** recent years,stochastic geometry has attracted more attention as a mathematical tool for modeling mobile network *** this paper,an analytical approach to the coverage probability analysis of UAV-assisted cellular networks with imperfect beam alignment has been *** assumption was considered that all users are distributed according to Poisson Cluster Process(PCP)around base stations,in particular,Thomas Cluster Process(TCP).Using thismodel,the impact of beam alignment errors on the coverage probabilitywas ***,the ProbabilityDensity Function(PDF)of directional antenna gain between the user and its serving base station was ***,association probability with each tier was achieved.A tractable expression was derived for coverage probability in both Line-of-Sight(LoS)andNon-Line-of-Sight(NLoS)condition *** results demonstrated that at low UAVs altitude,beam alignment errors significantly degrade coverage ***,for a small cluster size,alignment errors do not necessarily affect the coverage performance.

Classification of Electroencephalogram Signals Using LSTm and SVm Based on Fast Walsh-Hadamard Transform

Classification of electroencephalogram(EEG)signals for humans can be achieved via artificial intelligence(AI)***,the EEG signals associated with seizure epilepsy can be detected to distinguish between epileptic and non-epileptic *** this perspective,an automated AI technique with a digital processing method can be used to improve these *** paper proposes two classifiers:long short-term memory(LSTm)and support vector machine(SVm)for the classification of seizure and non-seizure EEG *** classifiers are applied to a public dataset,namely the University of Bonn,which consists of 2 classes–seizure and *** addition,a fast Walsh-Hadamard Transform(FWHT)technique is implemented to analyze the EEG signals within the recurrence space of the ***,Hadamard coefficients of the EEG signals are obtained via the ***,the FWHT is contributed to generate an efficient derivation of seizure EEG recordings from non-seizure EEG ***,a k-fold cross-validation technique is applied to validate the performance of the proposed *** LSTm classifier provides the best performance,with a testing accuracy of 99.00%.The training and testing loss rates for the LSTm are 0.0029 and 0.0602,respectively,while the weighted average precision,recall,and F1-score for the LSTm are 99.00%.The results of the SVm classifier in terms of accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity reached 91%,93.52%,and 91.3%,*** computational time consumed for the training of the LSTm and SVm is 2000 and 2500 s,*** results show that the LSTm classifier provides better performance than SVm in the classification of EEG ***,the proposed classifiers provide high classification accuracy compared to previously published classifiers.
