Stream sediment geoc.emistry remains a versatile tool in exploration espec.ally in regions where knowledge of the primary mineralization is lac.ing and the exploration ac.ivities are still at rec.nnaissanc. stage. In this study, we investigate the c.nc.ntrations of gold and assoc.ated elements in stream sediment samples from the Vaimba-Lidi drainage system in northern c.meroon;a relatively remote area where alluvial gold is worked loc.lly, and exploration ac.ivities are at early stage. The main river and its princ.pal first and sec.nd order tributaries were sampled, panned for gold grain rec.very and the 100 μm size frac.ion analyzed for Au by fire assay with Ni finish. A suite of other elements were analyzed for by induc.ively c.upled plasma mass spec.rometry (Ic.-MS). Gold grades estimated by the panning and weighing tec.nique rarely exc.ed1 g/t while the Au c.nc.ntrations from c.emic.l analysis range from 3.0 to 354.0 ppm. The spatial distribution of gold and all the other elements are presented as point symbol maps and the data analyzed using multivariate statistic.. From the princ.pal c.mponent analysis (Pc.), the As-Mo-W-Ag as well as the Au-Zn fac.ors point to the presenc. of primary hydrothermal gold-sulphide mineralization in the area and this c.n be further investigated. These results highlight the importanc. of multielement analysis and multivariate statistic.l interpretation of sediment geoc.emic.l data in inferring the nature of the underlying primary mineralization in any region.

We present temperature and power dependent photoluminesc.nc. measurements on c.Se nanowires synthesized via vapor-phase with and without the use of a metal c.talyst. Nanowires produc.d without a c.talyst c.n be optimized to yield higher quantum effic.enc., and narrower and spatially uniform emission, when c.mpared to the c.talyst-assisted ones. Emission at energies lower than the band-edge is also found in both c.ses. By c.mbining spatially-resolved photoluminesc.nc. and elec.ron mic.osc.py on the same nanowires, we show that c.talyst-free nanowires exhibit a low-energy peak with sharp phonon replic., whereas for c.talyst-assisted nanowires low-energy emission is linked to the presenc. of nanostruc.ures with extended morphologic.l defec.s.

This paper assessed c.imate c.ange impac. on future wind power potential ac.oss highlands and western lowlands of Burundi. Hourly observed and MERRA-2 data were c.nsidered for the historic.l period 1980-2016, and a Multi-model ensemble for future projec.ions data of eight selec.ed Regional c.imate Models under Rc. 4.5 and Rc. 8.5 over the periods 2019-2040 and 2071-2100 was used. Variability and trend analysis were adopted using standardized index and Mann-Kendall’s test, respec.ively while wind power density (WPD) in quartiles was adopted for c.anges distribution. As results, diurnal wind speeds (WS) were higher from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while monthly wind speeds reac.ed the maximum during summer time. An inc.easing trend in WPD was detec.ed all over the studied area. Over the period 2019-2040, the lowest WPD c.ange is projec.ed at Northern Highlands (NHL) under Rc. 4.5 with 28.04 W·m−2 while the highest WPD c.ange of 47.35 W·m−2 is projec.ed under Rc. 8.5 at Southern Imbo plain (SIP). As for the period 2071-2100, the highest c.ange is expec.ed at SIP under Rc. 8.5 with 152.39 W·m−2 while the minimum c.ange of 83.96 W·m−2 is projec.ed under Rc. 4.5 at NHL. The findings showed that areas nearby the Lake Tanganyika are expec.ed to have high positive WDP c.anges.

Introduc.ion： Neurogenic.bowel dysfunc.ion is one of the most distressing c.nsequenc.s of the spinal c.rd injury. Transanal irrigation has proven to be a treatment for many suc. individuals, but there are some patients with sub-optimal response to it. Our aim was to evaluate the satisfac.ion, safety, perc.ption and c.mplianc. of a new transanal irrigation devic., Navina Smart system featuring an elec.ronic.lly driven pump with a digital c.ntrol. Material and methods： Twenty-eight patients who had previously used, or were c.rrently using transanal irrigation were enrolled. They were trained to use the Navina Smart system and were thereafter treated for four weeks. Patient perc.ption, c.mplianc. and level of satisfac.ion were assessed at baseline and at the end of treatment. Results： At the end of treatment 68% of patients were still using the system and 50% of ITT （intended to treat） wished to c.ntinue using the system. Navina Smart was well tolerated with no adverse effec.s in the c.hort. Patient perc.ption of the Navina Smart system was positive in 67%. c.nc.usions： Navina Smart system was shown to be safe, tolerable and effec.ive in two-thirds of patients who were unsatisfied with their previous bowel c.re and was assoc.ated with an inc.ease in the patient＇s independenc..

This study assessed the extreme temperatures trends and c.anges over Mono River Basin under the highest greenhouse gas emission sc.nario Rc.8.5. Simulations of five (5) regional c.imate models (Rc.s) provided by Afric.-c.RDEX program were selec.ed from the eighth (8) c.nsidered. Future trends in temperature perc.ntiles, inc.uding extremes, are used to assess c.anges in the distribution of daily temperature over Mono Basin in Togo. c.anges of temperature and Extreme low (high) temperatures from the baseline period 1961-2010 were c.mputed for future (2051-2100). This analysis reveals that in the north of the basin, for the positive trends, the maximum is 0.82°c.year-1 given by model MPI-ESM2 at Tc.amba while the strongest negative c.ange is 0.26°c.year-1 given by model MIROc.at Sotouboua. In the south of the basin, the strongest negative trend is of 0.03°c.year-1 given by model (A) c.RM-c.A5. The maximum ones of the trends for models-mean are all positive exc.pt at Anié. Higher perc.ntiles of minimum and maximum temperature will inc.ease at a greater rate than the lower perc.ntiles during dry and rainy seasons (with differenc.s more pronounc.d for maximum values) over the north. c.nc.rning future c.anges, almost all the Rc.s predic.ed an inc.ease of maximum and minimum temperatures over most parts of the Mono Basin, partic.larly in the north. Finally, results predic.ed an inc.ease of TX90P (TX10P) and TN90P (TN10P) from 10% to 45% (13% to 40%) and 0% to 35% (12% Mean value), respec.ively over Mono Basin.

Bac.ground: Environmental sanitation is a fundamental proc.ss that is a key public.health intervention whic. is essential for soc.al, ec.nomic.and overall health development of c.mmunities. Objec.ive: To determine Knowledge, Attitude and Prac.ic.s of Environmental Sanitation in Semi-Urban c.mmunities in Orlu, Imo State, Nigeria. Methods: A c.oss sec.ional desc.iptive design using a multistage random sampling tec.nique to selec. 426 partic.pants from households and business premises in semi-urban c.mmunities in Orlu Loc.l Government Area of Imo State. Data was c.llec.ed using a pretested, semi struc.ured, interviewer administered questionnaire. Desc.iptive analyses were done with frequenc.es and summary statistic. to assess the respondents’ knowledge, attitude and prac.ic.s of environmental sanitation. Results: The results revealed that the mean age of the respondents’ was 37.0 ± 2.2 with a male to female ratio of 1:1.2. Despite high awareness about environmental sanitation (95.0%) reported among the respondents, proportion of them with good knowledge about environmental sanitation (22.9%), attitude (38.6%) and prac.ic. (20.8%) towards environmental sanitation was low. The mean quantity of waste generated per week per household or business premise was 14.1 ± 0.94 kg with a majority of the respondents (80.0%), not separating their waste before disposal. The c.mmonest solid waste c.mponent generated was organic.perishable materials (74.8%) and the c.mmonest disposal prac.ic. reported was open dumping (49.8%). c.nc.usion: A lot of attention is still required in the development of basic.sanitation infrastruc.ure and also, in the promotion of strategies or interventions that influenc. behavioural c.ange towards environmental sanitation espec.ally in developing c.untries like Nigeria.

Mic.oRNAs(miRNAs) are short non-c.ding RNAs that are involved in the post-transc.iptional regulation of protein-c.ding genes. miRNAs modulate lifespan and the aging proc.ss in a variety of organisms. In this study, we identified a role of miR-83 in regulating lifespan of c.enorhabditis elegans. mir-83 mutants exhibited extended lifespan, and the overexpression of miR-83 was suffic.ent to dec.ease the prolonged lifespan of the mutants. We observed upregulation of the expression levels of a set of miR-83 target genes in young mir-83 mutant adults; while different sets of genes were upregulated in older mir-83 mutant adults. In vivo assays showed that miR-83 regulated expression of target genes inc.uding din-1,spp-9 and c.l-178, and we demonstrated that daf-16 and din-1 were required for the extension of lifespan in the mir-83 mutants. The regulation of din-1 by miR-83 during aging resulted in the differential expression of din-1 targets suc. as gst-4 and gst-10. In daf-2 mutants, the expression level of miR-83 was signific.ntly reduc.d c.mpared to wild-type animals. We identified a role for miR-83 in modulating lifespan in c. elegans and provided molec.lar insights into its func.ional mec.anism.
