Ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)remains an unresolved and complicated situation in clinical practice,especially in the case of organ *** factors contrib.te to its complexity;the depletion of energy during ischemia and the induction of oxidative stress during reperfusion initiate a cascade of pathways that lead to cell death and finally to severe organ ***,the sirtuin family of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent deacetylases has gained increasing attention from researchers,due to their involvement in the modulation of a wide variety of cellular *** are seven mammalian sirtuins and,among them,the nuclear/cytoplasmic sirtuin 1(SIRT1)and the mitochondrial sirtuin 3(SIRT3)are ub.quitously expressed in many tissue *** are known to play major roles in protecting against cellular stress and in controlling metab.lic pathways,which are key processes during *** this review,we mainly focus on SIRT1 and SIRT3 and examine their role in modulating pathways against energy depletion during ischemia and their involvement in oxidative stress,apoptosis,microcirculatory stress and inflammation during *** present evidence of the b.neficial effects of sirtuins against IRI and emphasize the importance of developing new strategies b. enhancing their action.

Comb.ned Effect of a Catalytic Reduction Device with Waste Frying Oil-b.sed b.odiesel on NOx Emissions of Diesel Engines

Internal comb.stion engines with application in automob.les and other relevant industries constitute significant environmental pollution via the release of toxic exhaust gasses like carb.n monoxide (CO), hydrocarb.ns (HC), particulate matter (PM), and nitrogen oxide (NOb.xb.). Engine researchers and manufacturers are challenged to develop external and internal measures to ensure environmentally friendly solutions to accommodate and conform to the growing list of emission standards. Therefore, this work presents an experimental investigation of the NOb.xb. emission profile of a diesel engine that is fuelled and fitted with waste frying oil-b.sed b.odiesel and catalytic converter. Using a single-cylinder, four-stroke air-cooled CI engine at a constant speed of 1900 rpm and different loadings of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%;fitted with a catalytic converter at the exhaust outlet of the engine and linked to a dynamometer and a gas analyser, an experiment was conducted at b.odiesel/diesel volume b.ends of b. (0/10), b. (5/95), b.0 (20/80), b.0 (30/70), b.0 (70/30), b.00 (100/0);and 30% concentration (v/v), 0.5 litre/hr flow rate of aqueous urea from the catalytic converter. The results show an increasing NOb.xb. emission as the b.odiesel component increased in the b.end. The catalytic converter showed a downward NOb.xb. reduction with a significant 68% reduction in efficiency at high exhaust gas temperatures. It is concluded that the comb.ned utilisation of waste frying oil-b.sed b.odiesel and the catalytic converter yields sub.tantial NOb.xb. emission reduction.
