Foliar Analysis as an Estimate on the Nutritional State of Conilon Coffee Plantations on Cambisoils

The objective of this paper relies on the establishment of the sampling moment and the nutritional state of the species Conilon coffee （Coffea canephora） cultivated in Cambisoils. The effect of different rates of nitrogen fertilization was also studied in the leaves concentrations of N, at randomized complete block designs （N0= 0; N1 = 50; N2 = 100; N3 = 150 and N4 = 200 ***^-1 of N） in presence of P （40 ***^-1 of P2O5） and K （160 ***^-1 of K2O）, with four replicates. The samples were carried out in the months of March （flower blossoming stage）, June （fruits growing stage）, September （grain development） and December （maturation） in all treatments. Foliar analysis carried out in the month of June （fruits growing stage） for the purpose of establishing critical nutrient range values for N, settling down approaches of interpretation of the same one for the Conilon coffee plantations on Cambisoils. The biggest percentages in the yields are obtained with leaves containing N between 2.80% and 3.10%, a value below 2.80% N which they associated with indicative percentages of stable maximum yield that did not surpass the limits of the adequate nutrients supply.

Trends of stellar entropy along stellar evolution

This paper is devoted to discussing the difference in the thermodynamic entropy budget per baryon in each type of stellar object found in the Universe. We track and discuss the actual decrease of the stored baryonic thermodynamic entropy from the most primitive molecular cloud up to the final fate of matter in black holes, passing through evolved states of matter as found in white dwarfs and neutron stars. We then discuss the case of actual stars with different masses throughout their evolution, clarifying the role of the virial equilibrium condition for the decrease in entropy and related issues. Finally, we discuss the role of gravity in driving the composition and the structural changes of stars with different Main Sequence masses during their evolution up to the final product. Particularly, we discuss the entropy of a black hole in this context arguing that the dramatic increase in its entropy, differently from the other cases, is due to the gravitational field itself.

Two-phase flow in porous media is a very active field of research,due to its important applications in groundwater pollution,CO_(2)sequestration,or oil and gas production from petroleum reservoirs,just to name a few of *** flow equations,which make use of Darcy's law,for describing the movement of two immiscible fluids in a porous medium,are among the most relevant mathematical models in reservoir *** work aims to solve a fractional flow model formed by an elliptic equation,representing the spatial distribution of the pressure,and a hyperbolic equation describing the space-time evolution of water *** numerical solution of the elliptic part is obtained using a finite-element(FE)scheme,while the hyperbolic equation is solved by means of two dif-ferent numerical approaches,both in the finite-volume(FV)*** is based on a monotonic upstream-centered scheme for conservation laws(MUSCL)-Hancock scheme,whereas the other makes use of a weighted essentially non-oscillatory(ENO)*** both cases,a first-order centered(FORCE)-αnumerical scheme is applied for inter-cell flux reconstruction,which constitutes a new contribution in the field of fractional flow models describing oil-water movement.A relevant feature of this work is the study of the effect of the parameterαon the numerical solution of the models *** also show that,in the FORCE-αmethod,when the parameterαincreases,the errors diminish and the order of accuracy is more properly attained,as verified using a manufactured solution technique.

Implicit large eddy simulation of unsteady cloud cavitation around a plane-convex hydrofoil

The present paper focuses on the erosive cavitation behavior around a plane convex hydrofoil. The Zwart-Gerber-Belamri cavitation model is implemented in a library form to be used with the OpenFOAM. The implicit large eddy simulation （ILES） is app- lied to analyze the three-dimensional unsteady cavitating flow around a plane convex hydrofoil. The numerical results in the cases under the hydrodynamic conditions, which were experimentally tested at the high speed cavitation tunnel of the l^cole Polytechnique F6d＆ale de Lausanne （EPFL）, clearly show the sheet cavitation development, the shedding and the collapse of vapor clouds. It is noted that the cavitation evolutions including the maximum vapor length, the detachment and the oscillation frequency, are captured fairly well. Furthermore, the pressure pulses due to the cavitation development as well as the complex vortex structures are reasona- bly well predicted. Consequently, it may be concluded that the present numerical method can be used to investigate the unsteady cavitation around hydrofoils with a satisfactory accuracy.

Superficial Color Patches as a Visual Diagnostic Criterion for Agricultural Management

Soil management matters in semiarid lands are key to have acceptable yields and to preserve diversity. After the major agricultural intensification underwent in the semiarid lands of Monegros, NE Spain, custom tailored tools are needed to reconcile agriculture with habitats conservation. The objectives of this study were to quantify the effect of soil properties of two distinctly colored soils, white patches （WP） and dark patches （DP）, dominant in the arid landscape of the central Ebro Basin, Spain on winter cereal grain yield and to prove that superficial soil color could be used as a visual diagnostic criterion for evaluation of agricultural practices in arid lands. Significant differences between WP and DP soils were found in gypsum, carbonate contents, available water holding capacity and infiltration rate. The grain yield ranged from 51 to 5 713 kg ha-1. Significantly lower yields （P 〈 0.01） and precipitation-use efficiency （P 〈 0.05） were attained in the WP soils for the three seasons studied. This difference increased with the average rainfall due to the significantly lower soil water infiltration （P 〈 0.01） and water holding capacity （P 〈 0.05） found in the gypseous soils. Our results show that mapping the soil surface color at farm scale can be a low=cost tool for optimizing agricultural practices and recovering the natural vegetation. This approach can be advantageous in similar arid or semiarid environments around the world.

Alternatives to left lateral sector in paediatric liver transplantation-a systematic review on monosegmental and reduced grafts

Background: Paediatric liver transplantation (pLT) is the treatment of choice for many liver conditions. However, it still poses relevant challenges, mainly related to the size of the recipients. Unlike in adults, excessive graft volume might represent an issue when the estimated graft-recipient-weight-ratio (GRWR) is significantly disproportionate. In this situation, the traditional left lateral sector (LLS) grafts are too big and other alternatives are required, such as monosegmental or reduced (including hyper-reduced) grafts (RLLS/HRLLS). Results with conventional LLS-pLT are excellent and replicating them with monosegmental or RLLS is challenging given (I) the technical complexity and (II) the need to overcome the large-for-size scenario. This article is to review the existing experience with monosegmental, RLLS/HRLLS grafts and appraise its results. Methods: Systematic search of the electronic databases, conducted from their inception until May 2020. Results: After scrutiny of the available literature, 16 studies were included reporting 330 patients transplanted with monosegmental and RLLS/HRLLS grafts. There were 10 re-grafts (6 of them <90 days);90% of grafts were LDLT. Overall, median recipient’s age and weight were 7 months (range, 5 days-22 months) and 5.8 kg (range, 2.6-8 kg) respectively. Median graft weight was 209 grams (range, 124-264 grams) and median GRWR was 3.5% (range, 2.7-5.6%). Hepatic artery and portal vein thrombosis overall incidence were 1.5% and 4.2%;120 out of the 330 pLT were monosegmental (37%) producing a smaller graft (median of 164 grams) and accordingly a lower GRWR (median 3.2%) compared to reduced LLS. With a median follow-up of 39 months (range, 6-87 months), the overall graft and patient survival were 84% (285/340) and 89% (295/330). Discussion: Monosegmental and RLLS/HRLLS grafts provide access to liver transplantation for very small recipients with excellent results comparable to the standard LLS.

Global Solution for Preserving Citrus Fruit Using Natural Treatments

Different tests were carried out to assess the efficiency of replacing plant protection products used at the main application points in citrus fruit packinghouses with natural treatments. The efficiency of an aqueous treatment containing potassium sorbate was found to significantly reduce decaying in Marisol mandarins previously inoculated with Penicillium digitatum and Penicillium italicum. The same food preservative was used in conjunction with a fruit detergent and was applied on Washington Navel oranges and the reduction in the appearance of decaying was similar to that obtained using Guazatine. Finally, two different essential oils were tested. One was combined with a coating and the KS, whilst the other was applied as a fumigant. In the case of wax treatments, it was found that the combination of essential oil or KS with Imazalil at half the dose （0.1%） was equivalent to treatment with a higher dose of Imazalil （0.2%） thus making it possible to reduce the dose of plant protection products used without reducing decay control effectiveness. The treatment with a fumigant with essential oil has a level of efficiency similar to Imazalil against PI. These treatments can be considered a viable alternative to the use of plant protection products.
