Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease among Hotel Workers, Bohicon, Benin

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are on the increase in several sectors of activity. The aim of the study was to determine the frequencies of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and factors associated with hypertension among hotel workers in the city of Bohicon. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted in the period from Decem..r 2018 to January 2019. The variables studied were sociodem..raphic, occupational, anthropometric and behavioral. Participant recruitment was exhaustive. A standardized questionnaire inspired by the STEPS-WHO questionnaire was used for data collection. After the descriptive analysis, a bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson’s Chi-square test or Fisher’s test at the 5% threshold. Results: A total of 101 workers, 53 (52.47%) of them..ale, participated in the study. The mean age was 30.60 ± 8.20 years, with extrem.. of 18 and 55 years. The frequencies of the main risk factors were: 68.32% sitting position > 6 hours/day;38.61% shift work;21.78% high psychological dem..d, 82.18% low decision latitude, 24.75% low social support, 21.78% occupational stress;7 (6.93%) harmful alcohol consumption;6.93% tobacco consumption;48.51% insufficient physical activity;98.02% insufficient fruit and vegetable consumption;59.41% overweight;14.85% HTA. Factors associated with hypertension were: sex, age and marital status. Conclusion: Occupational factors need to be taken into account when assessing CVRFs. NCD control programs are needed in all sectors of activity. A larger study is needed in the hotel sector.

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between inter canine width (ICW) and inter alar width (IAW), inter commissural width (ICoW), and inter canthal distance (ICaD) in Bantu population. Materials and Methods: It was a pilot study included all participants who were aged at least 18 years, without a history of orthodontics treatment from Prosthodontics Department, Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Kinshasa. The Ethics committee of the National Center of Research for Dental Sciences in DR Congo approved the study protocol (CNRSB 1504.218). The participants medical records were obtained from the interview and dental examination. Nature of the study was explained with participant information sheet, and an informed consent of all participants was obtained. The inclusion criteria were no missing maxillary and mandibular teeth, no diastem.. and no anterior restorations, 18 years old before enrollment in the study. The exclusion criteria were inability to meet the above requirem..ts, pregnancy, and refusal to participate in the study. The inter-canine width (ICW), inter alar width (IAW), inter canthal distance (ICaD) and inter-commissural width (ICoW) of each participant were measured with a digital Vernier caliper (Mitutoyo, UK Ltd.,) (0.01 mm) three times and the average value was recorded. The inter canthal distance (ICaD) was measured without applying pressure by bringing the recording parts of the caliper just in contact with the medial angle. The inter alar width (IAW) was marked with a fine marked pencil on the widest outer surface of the alae of the nose on either side or width. Those two points were measured without applying pressure by bringing the recording parts of the caliper just in contact with the outer surface. The participant was told to stop breathing shortly to avoid any change in shape of the nose. The inter-commissural width (ICoW) was determined by measuring the maxillary lip vermilion from commissure to commissure without the

Efficient and Accurate Numerical Methods Using the Accelerated Spectral Deferred Correction for Solving Fractional Differential Equations

We develop an efficient and accurate spectral deferred correction(SDC)method for fractional differential equations(FDEs)by extending the algorithm in[14]for classical ordinary differential equations(ODEs).Specifically,we discretize the resulted Picard integral equation by the SDC method and accelerate the convergence of the SDC iteration by using the generalized minimal residual algorithm(GMRES).We first derive the correction matrix of the SDC method for FDEs and analyze the convergence region of the SDC *** then present several numerical examples for stiff and non-stiff FDEs including fractional linear and nonlinear ODEs as well as fractional phase field models,dem..strating that the accelerated SDC method is much more efficient than the original SDC method,especially for stiff ***,we resolve the issue of low accuracy arising from the singularity of the solutions by using a geometric mesh,leading to highly accurate solutions compared to uniform mesh solutions at almost the same computational ***,for long-time integration of FDEs,using the geometric mesh leads to great computational savings as the total number of degrees of freedom required is relatively small.

Phase-field modeling is an effective but computationally expensive method for capturing the mesoscale morphological and microstructure evolution in ***,fast and generalizable surrogate models are needed to alleviate the cost of computationally taxing processes such as in optimization and design of *** intrinsic discontinuous nature of the physical phenomena incurred by the presence of sharp phase boundaries makes the training of the surrogate model *** develop a framework that integrates a convolutional autoencoder architecture with a deep neural operator(DeepONet)to learn the dynamic evolution of a two-phase mixture and accelerate time-to-solution in predicting the microstructure *** utilize the convolutional autoencoder to provide a compact representation of the microstructure data in a low-dimensional latent *** DeepONet is trained in the latent space,it can be used to replace the high-fidelity phase-field numerical solver in interpolation tasks or to accelerate the numerical solver in extrapolation tasks.

Extrapolation-Based Acceleration of Iterative Solvers:Application to Simulation of 3D Flows

Predicting the aquatic risk of realistic pesticide mixtures to species assem..ages in Portuguese river basins

although pesticide regulatory tools are mainly based on individual substances, aquatic ecosystem..are usually exposed to multiple pesticides from their use on the variety of crops within the catchment of a river. This study estimated the impact of measured pesticide mixtures in surface waters from 2002 and 2008 within three important Portuguese river basins（＇Mondego＇, ＇Sado＇ and ＇Tejo＇） on primary producers, arthropods and fish by toxic pressure calculation. Species sensitivity distributions（SSDs）, in combination with mixture toxicity models, were applied. Considering the differences in the responses of the taxonomic groups as well as in the pesticide exposures that these organisms experience, variable acute multi-substance potentially affected fractions（ms PAFs） were obtained. The median msP AF for primary producers and arthropods in surface waters of all river basins exceeded 5%, the cut-off value used in the prospective SSD approach for deriving individual environmental quality standards. A ranking procedure identified various photosystem..I inhibiting herbicides, with oxadiazon having the relatively largest toxic effects on primary producers, while the organophosphorus insecticides, chlorfenvinphos and chlorpyrifos, and the organochloride endosulfan had the largest effects on arthropods and fish, respectively. These results ensure compliance with European legislation with regard to ecological risk assessment and managem..t of pesticides in surface waters.
