Clostridium difficile(***)is the leading cause of antibiotic associated colitis and nosocomial *** with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)are at increased risk of developing *** infection(CDI),have worse outcomes of CDI-including higher rates of colectomy and death,and experience higher rates of ***,it is still not clear whether *** is a cause of IBD or a consequence of the inflammatory state in the intestinal *** burden of CDI has increased dramatically over the past decade,with severe outbreaks described in many countries,which have been attributed to a new and more virulent strain.A parallel rise in the incidence of CDI has been noted in patients with *** patients with CDI tend be younger,have less prior antibiotic exposure,and most cases of CDI in these patients represent outpatient acquired *** clinical presentation of CDI in these patients can be unique-including diversion colitis,enteritis and pouchitis,and typical findings on colonoscopy are often *** to the high prevalence of CDI in patients hospitalized with an IBD exacerbation,and the prognostic implications of CDI in these patients,it is recommended to test all IBD patients hospitalized with a disease flare for *** includes general measures such as supportive care and infection control *** therapy with either oral metronidazole,vancomycin,or the novel antibiotic-fidaxomicin,should be initiated as soon as *** macrobiota transplantation constitutes another optional treatment for severe/recurrent *** aim of this paper is to review recent data on CDI in IBD:role in pathogenesis,diagnostic methods,optional treatments,and outcomes of these patients.

Impacts of weaning age on dietary needs of whey permeate for pigs at 7 to 11 kg body weight

Background:Whey permeate is an effective lactose source for nursery pigs and the most benefits are obtained when pigs are at 7 to 11 kg *** weaning ages could cause different length of early-weaner phases until 7 kg BW and thus it would influence the dietary need of whey permeate during 7 to 11 kg BW of *** study aimed to evaluate if weaning ages would affect the dietary needs of whey permeate for optimum growth performance of pigs at 7 to 11 kg ***:A total of 1,632 pigs were weaned at d 21(d 21.2±1.3)or d 25(d 24.6±1.1)after *** pigs had a common early-weaner feeds until they reached 7 kg *** pigs reached 7 kg BW within a weaning age group,they were allotted in a randomized complete block design(2×4 factorial).Two factors were weaning age groups(21 and 25 d of age)and varying whey permeate levels(7.50%,11.25%,15.00%,and 18.75%).Data were analyzed using the GLM and NLIN procedures of SAS for slope-ratio and broken-line analyses to determine the growth response to whey permeate and optimal daily whey permeate intake for the growth of the pigs weaned at different ***:Pigs weaned at 21 d of age had a common diet for 11 d to reach 7 kg BW whereas pigs weaned at 25 d of age needed 2 *** G:F of pigs weaned at 25 d of age responded to increased daily whey permeate intake greater(P<0.05)than pigs weaned at 21 d of *** were obtained(P<0.05)at 88 and 60 g/d daily whey permeate intake or 17.0%and 14.4%of whey permeate for G:F of pigs weaned at 21 and 25 d of age,***:Pigs weaned at an older age with a short early-weaner phase had a greater growth response to whey permeate intake compared with pigs weaned at a younger age with a long early-weaner *** weaning ages affected dietary needs of whey permeate for optimum growth performance of pigs from 7 to 11 kg BW.

Grain germination is a process involving numerous factors that influence the biochemical processes inside the plant *** review covered the abiotic factors that lead to the germination and significantly impact the nutritional properties and digestion behavior of rice *** macro-and micro-nutrients can be changed depending on the intensity of the applied variables during *** instance,germination time can increase the protein content in the grain and concurrently reduce its protein *** most cases,the number of bioactive compounds present in rice grains are increased regardless of germination *** can promote the complexation of nutrients and thus negatively interfere with the digestibility of *** review highlighted the influence of the germination process on the nutritional quality of rice grains,providing information about the germination conditions and their impacts on the anabolic and catabolic reactions of the grain,emphasizing the health benefits.

Single-nucleus RNA-sequencing technology has revolutionized understanding of nuanced changes in gene expression between cell types within ***,our understanding of regulatory RNAs,such as microRNAs(miRNAs),is limited through both single-cell and single-nucleus techniques due to the short length of miRNAs in the cytoplasm and the incomplete reference of longer primary miRNA(pri-miRNA)transcripts in the *** build a custom reference to align and count pri-miRNA sequences in singlenucleus *** young and aged subventricular zone(SVZ)nuclei,we show differential expression of pri-miRNAs targeting genes involved in neural stem cells(NSC)differentiation in the aged ***,using wild-type and 5XFAD mouse model cortex nuclei,to validate the use of primiReference,we find cell-type-specific expression of pri-miRNAs known to be involved in Alzheimer’s disease(AD).pri-miRNAs likely contribute to NSC dysregulation with age and AD *** is paramount in capturing a global profile of gene expression and regulation in single-nucleus data and can provide key insights into cell-type-specific expression of pri-miRNAs,paving the way for future studies of regulation and pathway *** looking at pri-miRNA abundance and transcriptional differences,regulation of gene expression by miRNAs in disease and aging can be further explored.

Comparative effects of soy protein concentrate,enzyme‑treated soybean meal,and fermented soybean meal replacing animal protein supplements in feeds on growth performance and intestinal health of nursery pigs

Spectrum of esophageal motility disorders in patients with liver cirrhosis

Disorders of esophageal motility have been described in patients with cirrhosis in a small number of *** this review,we aim to provide an overview of the available evidence on esophageal motility disorders in cirrhosis and their clinical *** review delves into the following concepts:(1)Gastroesophageal reflux disease is common in liver cirrhosis due to many mechanisms;however,when symptomatic it is usually nocturnal and has an atypical presentation;(2)Endoscopic band ligation is better than sclerotherapy in terms of its effect on esophageal motility and seems to correct dysmotilities resulting from the mechanical effect of esophageal varices;(3)Chronic alcoholism has no major effects on esophageal motility activity other than lower esophageal sphincter hypertension among those with alcoholic autonomic neuropathy;(4)An association between primary biliary cholangitis and scleroderma can be present and esophageal hypomotility is not uncommon in this scenario;and(5)Cyclosporin-based immunosuppression in liver transplant patients can have a neurotoxic effect on the esophageal myenteric plexus leading to reversible achalasia-like manifestations.

Growth and nutrient accumulation of Brazil nut trees(Bertholletia excelsa) in agroforestry at different fertilizer levels

The Brazil nut tree（Bertholletia excelsa） is a frequent component of agroforestry systems in the Amazon because of its adaptation to nutrient-poor upland soils and multiple *** investigated the aboveground biomass production（kg dry weight）,nutrient uptake and requirements（N,P,Ca,Mg,K） of Brazil nut trees of different sizes grown under agroforestry conditions and fertilized at different *** of 70 experimental trees with different size were harvested and stem,branches and leaves were *** contents were determined for three trees of varying *** tree growth was fast,but variability was high,suggesting considerable potential for the improvement of this economically important *** trees responded to increased levels of fertilizer and lime with significantly increased foliar nutrient contents and growth,probably because of the improved availability of Mg and Ca for which the species seems to have a relatively high *** contrast to Brazil nut trees grown in forest or dense plantations,the agroforestry trees invested a substantial part of their biomass and nutrients in large branches and developed spreading *** improve stem form,reduce competition with associated crops for light and recycle nutrients,regular pruning of lower branches or planting arrangements that favor self-pruning are *** measures would also increase the recycling of Ca and Mg,large quantities of which are contained in the branches.

The obesity pandemic has led to a significant increase in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD).While dyslipidemia,type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases guide treatment in patients without signs of liver fibrosis,liver related morbidity and mortality becomes relevant for MAFLD’s progressive form,non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),and upon development of liver *** should be prescribed in patients without significant fibrosis despite concomitant liver diseases but are underutilized in the real-world *** surgery,especially Y-Roux bypass,has been proven to be superior to conservative and/or medical treatment for weight loss and resolution of obesity-associated diseases,but comes at a low but existent risk of surgical complications,reoperations and very rarely,paradoxical progression of *** end-stage liver disease develops,obese patients benefit from liver transplantation(LT),but may be at increased risk of perioperative infectious *** LT,metabolic comorbidities are commonly observed,irrespective of the underlying liver disease,but MAFLD/NASH patients are at even higher risk of disease *** studies with low patient numbers evaluated if,and when,bariatric surgery may be an option to avoid disease recurrence but more high-quality studies are needed to establish clear *** this review,we summarize the most recent literature on treatment options for MAFLD and NASH and highlight important considerations to tailor therapy to individual patient’s needs in light of their risk profile.

Many important scientific questions in physics,chemistry and biology require effective methodologies to spectroscopically probe ultrafast intra-and inter-atomic/molecular ***,current methods that extend into the femtosecond regime are capable of only point measurements or single-snapshot visualizations and thus lack the capability to perform ultrafast spectroscopic videography of dynamic single *** we present a laser-probe-based method that enables two-dimensional videography at ultrafast timescales(femtosecond and shorter)of single,non-repetitive *** method is based on superimposing a structural code onto the illumination to encrypt a single event,which is then deciphered in a post-processing *** coding strategy enables laser probing with arbitrary wavelengths/bandwidths to collect signals with indiscriminate spectral information,thus allowing for ultrafast videography with full spectroscopic *** demonstrate the high temporal resolution of our method,we present videography of light propagation with record high 200 femtosecond temporal *** method is widely applicable for studying a multitude of dynamical processes in physics,chemistry and biology over a wide range of time *** the minimum frame separation(temporal resolution)is dictated by only the laser pulse duration,attosecondlaser technology may further increase video rates by several orders of magnitude.

Gene capture by transposable elements leads to epigenetic conflict in maize
