Soleus muscle flap for reconstruction of lower extremity *** or glue factory?

Aim:Soleus muscle flaps have traditionally been a reliable tool in the plastic surgeon’s armamentarium for lower extremity reconstruction and limb *** the modern era,many surgeons prefer free *** study sought to evaluate trends and outcomes of soleus flap reconstruction after lower extremity injury in a large cohort at a Level 1 trauma ***:This is an Institutional Review Board-approved,retrospective chart review that was undertaken at Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center from 2007 to *** demographics,Gustilo-Anderson fracture classification,flap characteristics,and outcomes were collected and *** of interest included failure rates,postoperative complications,and long-term ambulatory ***:Of 187 local leg flaps,68(36.4%)were soleus flaps,with 84% of soleus flaps performed prior to *** flap loss rate was 0.0%.Eighteen(26.1%)flaps demonstrated>1 complication,including osteomyelitis/hardware infection(n=12),flap revision(n=6),and amputation(n=2).Long-term follow-up demonstrated 35.3% of patients ambulating independently after an average of 7.5±7.2 months,with the remainder needing a wheelchair or walking assistance ***:Although soleus flap loss rate was 0%,the findings demonstrate more infections than expected;this must be considered in light of pre-existing patient comorbidities possibly deterring free flap ***,our results reveal that only 16% of soleus flaps were performed after *** surgeons consider the reconstructive ladder for lower extremity trauma,a rotational soleus muscle flap should not be overlooked in the modern era of free flap tissue transfers and might be a more optimal flap choice in certain patients with multiple comorbidities.

Lactobacillus are considered promising therapeutic methods for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).The effects of two strains of Ltmosilactobacillus mucosae on NAFLD were investigated in this ***-old male C57BL/6J mice were divided into 4 groups(n=8 per group,Control,Model,FZJTZ26M3,FGSYC17L3).*** FZJTZ26M3 reduced the mice 's body weight,liver weight,and adipose tissue weight after 12 weeks of *** to serum analysis,total cholesterol,triacylglycerol,and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol significantly decreased after *** FZJTZ26M3 *** pathology showed that *** FZJTZ26M3 was effective to ameliorate lipid deposition in NAFLD ***,the expression of the gene related to lipid metabolism in the liver and adipose tissue was analyzed,and the results indicated that *** FZJTZ26M3 could alleviate NAFLD by regulating lipid ***,the results of 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed a drop in the relative abundance of Ruminococcaceae,which is linked to inflammation,but the relative abundance of a potential probiotic Akkermansia significantly increased after *** FZJTZ26M3 ***,*** FZJTZ26M3 could be a candidate to prevent NAFLD.

Voices From the Industry:How EdTech Leaders Responded to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Purpose Educational technology(“EdTech”)served a pivotal role in keeping schools functioning during the beginning of the COVID-19 *** is known about EdTech leaders’roles in shaping this *** study explores EdTech leaders’perspectives and backgrounds,their response to the pandemic,how they envision their roles as educators,and their perspectives about how technology facilitates educational ***/Approach/Methods This study uses a qualitative,phenomenological approach to understand how 11 EdTech leaders experienced the *** were recruited for interviews in summer 2021 via purposive sampling to include diverse backgrounds and *** were analyzed *** The findings show that a four-category typology can be used to describe EdTech leaders’diverse backgrounds and *** emphasized equity and open collaboration in their pandemic responses,by expanding access to their tools and adapting their products as users’needs *** leaders anticipate streamlined user experiences,improvements in online learning,and increased adoption of artificial intelligence and simulated learning ***/Value This study addresses a gap in the research concerning EdTech leaders’perspectives on their efforts to support educators and their experiences during the *** hope this study sparks additional research on EdTech leaders’experiences and roles in education.

Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium breve alleviate neonatal maternal separation induced visceral hypersensitivity and non-spatial memory impairment in rats by the NGF/TrkA pathway

Irritable bowel syndrome-diarrhea （IBS-D） is a prevalent functional bowel disease severely impairs the quality of life of patients. Visceral hypersensitivity （VH） is the main symptom of IBS-D. Probiotics have been found to effectively alleviate VH. In this study， neonatal maternal separation （NMS） was used to induce VH in 72 rats and investigated the effects of daily gavage of 3*109CFU of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium on alleviating the symptoms of IBS-D and behavioral interventions， as well as exploring potential mechanisms. The results demonstrated that Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium breve could alleviate the symptoms of IBS-D such as VH and increased frequency of bowel movements， as well as improving non-spatial memory in NMS rats. These effects were achieved by modulating the composition of gut microbiota and metabolites （including short-chain fatty acids， deoxycholic acid and adenosine）， and by regulating the expression of genes and proteins associated with the NGF/TrkA signaling pathway， tryptophan metabolism， and inflammatory factors in the hippocampus. This finding suggests that Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium breve have promising potential for the alleviation of IBS.

Infant feces-derived Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 inhibits the occurrence of rheumatoid cachexia by IRS1/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway

This study aimed to investigate the effects of infant feces-derived Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 on rheumatoid cachexia （RC）. Twenty-four female Wistar rats were assigned to three groups: CON group （normal saline by gavage）， CIA group （collagen-induced arthritis， normal saline by gavage）， and CCFM1078 group (collagen-induced arthritis， 3×109CFU/rat/day B breve CCFM1078 gavage). The results demonstrated that B. breve CCFM1078 not only improved skeletal muscle function in CIA rats， but also modulated the gut microbiota， skeletal muscle metabolism and hormone levels， reduced inflammation in the knee joint and skeletal muscles， decreased activity of the NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway， enhanced the IRS1/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway， promoted skeletal muscle differentiation， and maintained skeletal muscle fiber diameter， consequently slowing down the progression of RC. These findings suggested that B. breve CCFM1078 may have a beneficial role as part of a dietary intervention for RC， enhancing overall therapeutic effects.

Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 regulates bone development in growing BALB/c mice via gut microbiota and metabolites to balance bone formation and resorption

This study endeavors to investigate the effects of Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 on bone formation and resorption balance in growing BALB/c mice. Newborn BALB/c mice were assigned to the control group (administration saline) and the CCFM1078 group (administration B. breve CCFM1078， 3 × 109CFU/day) in 3-， 4-， and 5-week tests. All the groups have male and female distinctions. Our findings demonstrate that B. breve CCFM1078 exerts on the dynamic equilibrium between bone formation and resorption during the critical period of growth in mice by modulating the composition of gut microbiota and metabolites (hexadecanamide， linoleoyl ethanolamide， and palmitoyl ethanolamide)， the genes and proteins expression related to the GH/IGF-1 axis and Gs/PKA/CREB signaling pathways， as well as downstream osteogenic and osteoclastic differentiation factors. The effects of B. breve CCFM1078 were different with age and gender dependent. This finding suggests B. breve CCFM1078 may have potential applications in regulating bone metabolism in the growth period population.

Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis CCFM1269 promotes intestinal barrier and release of IFN-β through TLR4-TRIF dependent way in growing mice

Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis is a commensal bacterium that predominates in the infant gut， playing a critical role in both preventing foreign infections and facilitating immune development. This study aimed to explore the effects of B. longum subsp. infantis supplementation on interferon-beta (IFN-β) secretion and intestinal barrier improvement in growing mice. Female and male mice were orally administered either saline or B. longum subsp. infantis CCFM1269 or I5TI (1 × 109CFU/mice per day， n = 8) from 1-week-age until 3-， 4-， and 5-week-age. RNA sequencing analysis revealed that CCFM1269 exhibited potential antiviral capacity through increasing 2’-5’ oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS). Additionally， CCFM1269 supplementation significantly increased colonic IFN-β levels which combined with OAS in 3-week-old female and male mice by activating the TLR4-TRIF-dependent signaling pathway. However， this effect was not observed in 4- and 5-week-old mice. Furthermore， both CCFM1269 were found to modulate the gut microbiota composition and enhance the intestinal barrier function in 3-， 4-， and 5-week-old mice. In summary， the results of this study suggested that B. longum subsp. infantis CCFM1269 promoting intestinal barrier and releasing IFN-β in growing mice was in a strain-specific and time-dependent manner.

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically expanded the increasingly important role of educational technology(“EdTech”)in K-16 *** is“the introduction of information and technology tools in teaching and learning”(Ganimian et al.,2020,p.5).Examples of EdTech include audio-visual aids,computer-assisted learning,mobile devices,smart technologies,and virtual reality(Huang et al.,2019).One sign of the growing importance of technology in schools is the rapid increase in EdTech investments,which tripled between 2019(pre-COVID)and 2021(during COVID;HolonIQ,2022).Nonetheless,inequality in access to technology remains a barrier for students in underserved schools(Chapman et al.,2010;Dorn et al.,2020).

Right time, right place: The dynamic role of hormones in rhizobial infection and nodulation of legumes

Many legume plants form beneficial associations with rhizobial bacteria that are hosted in new plant rootorgans, nodules, in which atmospheric nitrogen is fixed. This association requires the precise coordinationof two separate programs, infection in the epidermis and nodule organogenesis in the cortex. There isextensive literature indicating key roles for plant hormones during nodulation, but a detailed analysis ofthe spatial and temporal roles of plant hormones during the different stages of nodulation is *** review analyses the current literature on hormone regulation of infection and organogenesis to revealthe differential roles and interactions of auxin, cytokinin, brassinosteroids, ethylene, and gibberellins during epidermal infection and cortical nodule initiation, development, and function. With the exception ofauxin, all of these hormones suppress infection events. By contrast, there is evidence that all of these hormones promote nodule organogenesis, except ethylene, which suppresses nodule initiation. This differential role for many of the hormones between the epidermal and cortical programs is striking. Future work isrequired to fully examine hormone interactions and create a robust model that integrates this knowledgeinto our understanding of nodulation pathways.
