The Epidemio-Clinic Profile of Clandestine Abortion at Saint Joseph Hospital (Kinshasa)

Objective: To identify the epidemiologic profile of the woman having practiced the clandestine abortion, to determine the frequency and the complications of the clandestine abortion and to evaluate the prognosis of the clandestine abortion in our area. Method: The present study is descriptive and retrospective covering the period from January 2017 to December 2017, the one year period. On 118 patients received in the service for clandestine abortion, 60 were retained for the study. The 58 other files were excluded because of not containing sufficient information for this study. The descriptive statistical analyses were applied for the data analysis. Results: The frequency of the allowed patients for complication of clandestine abortion caused at the Saint Joseph hospital of Kinshasa was 6.03%. The most concerned population with this practice was less than 15 years and more than 45 years;they were unmarried (41.6%) and nulliparous (41.6%) in most cases. Ancillary medical staff (especially nurses) was accused the most in this practice of the illegal abortion caused by the dilatation and curettage with 50%. The genital haemorrhage constitutes the principal complication and reason for consultation and accounted for 78.3%. The assumption of responsibility is primarily medical and surgical. The vital prognosis is satisfactory for the immediate one, because no death is noted. Conclusion: The clandestine abortion remains public health problem in our communities. The results found in our study call for certain reflections so that to reduce its frequency and to avoid its complications.

This study investigates the health implications of sharing a shisha (hookah) mouthpiece during smoking, with a focus on tuberculosis (TB) and hepatitis prevalence in Sub Saharan Africa. It examines shisha smoking behavior patterns and associated risks of disease transmission among those sharing a common mouthpiece. Through literature review and empirical data analysis, the research highlights epidemiological factors driving TB and hepatitis transmission within the context of shisha smoking in Sub Saharan Africa. Exploring cultural, social, and behavioral determinants influencing shisha mouthpiece sharing, the study offers insights into interventions and public health strategies. It emphasizes the need for targeted health education campaigns, policy interventions, and community-based initiatives to promote safer smoking practices. Immediate coordinated public health interventions, including educational campaigns and regulatory measures, are recommended. Collaboration among healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities is essential. These insights deepen the understanding of challenges posed by communal shisha smoking in Sub Saharan Africa, laying the groundwork for evidence-based interventions to reduce TB and hepatitis transmission and enhance overall health outcomes in the region. This research underscores the urgency of addressing the risks associated with shisha smoking, aiming to mitigate disease transmission and improve population health in Sub Saharan Africa.

Background: Cancer continues to pose a significant threat to our society, representing one of the most pressing health concerns worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition and the antioxidant activity of aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts from Acacia nilotica (An), Bauhinia reticulate (Br), and Tamarindus indica (Ti) of Fabaceae family, traditionally used in Northern Cameroon for cancer treatment. Methods: The phytochemical screening of the three plants was conducted using conventional colorimetric methods, followed by the measurement of total phenol content, flavonoids, and tannins. The antiradical and antioxidant activities of both plant extracts were assessed through FRAP, ABTS, and DPPH methods. A principal components analysis was employed to correlate the quantities of the evaluated secondary metabolites with the activities. Results: Both types of extracts from the three plants contain alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids, coumarins, anthocyanins, and anthraquinones. The aqueous extracts of Br and An are significantly richer (p Conclusion: The three Fabaceae plants from northern Cameroon, prepared in different solvents, can be utilized for their antiradical properties in cancer treatment.

The objective of this article is to show the influence of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in *** topical questioning centred on the series of accidents and near misses in general and specifically in the petroleum products sector and showed the need to look for other *** do so,we conceptually proposed a model derived from the literature review and adjusted by practical research,which shows that our approach is the hypothetico-deductive ***,the observations from the experience of 90 questionnaires were operationalized using multivariate logistic regression *** results indicate that making or receiving calls while driving significantly influences the occurrence of reckless driving *** and sending short message service(SMS or text messages)while driving negatively influences drivers’performance by increasing delivery *** type of phone used has an effect on the risk of accidents or near ***,drivers who use smartphones are 2.14 times more likely to experience crash-like events compared to those who use conventional mobile *** addition,with a view to reducing near misses and accidents,it is important to organize regular appropriate road safety campaigns,to install on-board cameras in all trucks,to provide rest areas and encourage drivers to stop at these areas to check their phones and catch up on missed *** to introduce training for drivers in defensive driving with a renewable licence after a maximum of 2 years.

Seasonal Variability of the Buoyancy Flux along the Northern Coast of the Gulf of Guinea

The buoyancy flux Bo at the air/sea interface is very useful to understand the variability of the stratification of the mixed layer, the oceanic mixing, the phytoplankton dynamics and then the coastal upwelling. The atmospheric reanalysis ERA5 and the oceanic reanalysis ORAP5 data have been used in this study to describe the sea surface Bo and, its influence on the variability of the mixing in the mixed layer and consequently on the coastal upwelling along the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea. The Bo is negative along the coast and, is characterized by a seasonal variability dominated by the thermal buoyancy flux. This study has also shown that the mixing layer is very shallow along the coast and deeper offshore. The negative value of the Bo increases the stratification of the mixed layer and reduces the mixing. This could explain why the mixed layer is shallow in this region. This work suggests that an increasing trend of the global warming could have dramatic impact in this area by increasing the stratification in the mixed layer and would contribute to reducing the coastal upwelling intensity.

On the Causes of the Minor Dry Season over the Coastal Region of the Northern Gulf of Guinea

Along the littoral shelf of northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea (GG), a minor dry season of the rainfall regime is concomitantly observed with the occurrence of a major coastal upwelling in July-August-September (JAS). It was then supposed that this upwelling drives that minor dry season. But no previous studies have tried to understand this minor dry season and, this study is the first focusing on this question. The investigations undertaken to explain this dry season on the Ivorian littoral shelf with the ERA-Interim data from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts over the 1980-2016 period have shown that the minor dry season is driven by the Northward migration of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) during this period and, enhanced by the occurrence of the major coastal upwelling of the northern GG at the same time. These two phenomena interact as follow: i) the ITCZ is located in JAS far in the north cutting off convective processes along the coast, ii) the air on the coastal region is poor in humidity, iii) the air temperature on the bordering region of the GG is cooled by the coastal upwelling to value less than 26°C and not favorable for providing convection.

Contribution of a Websig to a Study of the Distribution of Education Staff for Vocational Training in Côte D’ivoire

Education makes it possible to pass from one generation to another, the culture necessary for the development of the personality and the social integration of the individual. Education contributes closely to the supervision of students and remains the responsibility of educators and education inspectors. But each education staff admits the number of students supported. This number is two hundred and eighty (280) students per educator and one thousand two thousand (2000) per education inspector. Our study aims at taking stock of the adequacy between school enrollment and education staff enrollment from a WebSIG for vocational training schools in Côte d’Ivoire. To achieve this, the methodology adopted led us to use the MERISE analysis method for setting up the database, web programming languages (HTML 5, PHP, CSS, XML and JavaScript), AJAX technology, Apache web server, DBMS (MySQL), Google Maps API. The results from the use of WebSIG highlight the disparity in the distribution of education personnel. These results also show which schools remain in need as well as in excess.

世界经济的发展将全世界所有的国家都连接为一个共同体,在这个共同体内,不同国家与民族之间的关系日益密切。随着中非关系的不断加强,布隆迪现与中国的文化交流越来越频繁,到中国留学的布隆迪学生也越来越多。但由于中布两国的文化差异很大,使得我们布隆迪留学生来到中国以后出现了诸多不适应的状况,这种生活和文化上的不适应直接影响了汉语习得的效果。本文拟从生活、文化和心理三个层面入手,对布隆迪留学生在中国习得汉语时所遇到的困难进行考察,探讨布隆迪留学生文化适应与汉语习得效果之间的相关性。本文共分为四个部分进行论述,具体内容如下:第一章阐明了本课题中所使用的研究方法,综述了国内外学者对于来华留学生跨文化适应问题和布隆迪汉语教学与学习情况的研究成果。第二章分析了包括饮食习惯与气候环境在内的生活适应情况、包括课堂语言环境和课外语言环境在内的语言适应情况、包括价值观和风俗习惯在内的心理适应情况等对第二语言学习效果的影响。第三章通过设计调查问卷和访谈来了解布隆迪留学生在中国学习汉语时生活、语言以及心理方面适应的现状。第四章分析了当前的适应情况所带来的汉语习得效果中存在的问题,并根据实际存在的问题提出相应的解决策略,以期对来华布隆迪留学生汉语习得效果的提高有所裨益。最后是结语,总结了本课题研究的成果,针对布隆迪留学生在中国学习过程中切实存在的问题提出了针对性的解决对策。

Determination of the Triplet State Lifetime of C<sub>60</sub>/Toluene Solution and C<sub>60</sub>Thin Films by Pump-Probe Method

Excited state lifetimes of C60/toluene solution and C60 films macromolecular were measured by pump-probe method. Relation between optical switching effect of material and pulse width of pumping field is briefly described. It is found that the faster switching speed of light is, the triplet state lifetime is shorter. A He-Ne laser, as a probe, passed through the sample in the pump-probe experiment. All-optical switching effect was realized. Changing the optical power of the pumping field, switching response of the sample and modulation depth were investigated. In certain experimental conditions, relation between transmission through the sample and response were measured by an oscilloscope. Triple state lifetime of the molecule is speculated. The result showed that C60/toluene solution and C60 film have a fast response time. They would be utilized in some applications, such as optical switches, photonic devices.

Development of an Integrated Coastal Vulnerability Index for the Ivorian Coast in West Africa

This study assesses the vulnerable state of the 566-km Ivorian coastal area using the physical (geomorphology, coastal slope, coastal retreat rate, relative sea level rise and wave/Tide energy) and socio-economic (coastal population density, harbor, airport, road, land use and protected area) factors as indicators. This enabled an Integrated Coastal Vulnerability Index to be determined for the Ivorian coastal zone. This Index could be defined as the weighted average of indexes based on physical and socio-economic factors. The study revealed that vulnerability of the western and the eastern coastlines of Cote d’Ivoire are strongly influenced by human activities, while physical forcing affects significantly the vulnerability of the central section. The relative vulnerability of the different sections depends also strongly on the geomorphology, wave energy, coastal population density and land use factors. The west and central sections of the coastline are more resilient than the eastern section when integrating physical and socio-economic factors. The Integrated Coastal Vulnerability Index, based on physical and socio-economic factors, appears to be more appropriate for coastal vulnerability assessment. These results could be useful in the development of adaptation strategies to increase the resilience of this coastal area and then extended for West Africa Coastal Areas Management.
