Overlap of orthorexia,eating attitude and psychological distress in some Italian and Spanish university students

BACKGROUND Orthorexia nervosa(ON)is the persistent concern of maintaining the self-imposed diet to improve one's *** factors have been associated to ON in university *** To assess the prevalence of ON in Italian and Spanish university students in relation to eating attitude and psychological distress,and the possible overlaps between ON(evaluated with different scored questionnaires from the originally proposed ORTO-15),distress and risk of eating *** This study was carried out on 160 students recruited at La Sapienza University of Rome and at the Catholic University of *** were administered to evaluate ON(ORTO-15 and sub-scores),body concerns(Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire,MBSRQ,and Body Uneasiness test,BUT),psychological distress(Kessler Psychological Distress Scale,K10),physical activity(International Physical Activity Questionnaire,IPAQ),eating attitude(Eating Attitudes Test,EAT-26)and malnutrition(Starvation Symptom Inventory,SSI).Sex differences,within the same country,and differences between Italian and Spanish students,within the same sex,were *** The ORTO-15 positive subjects,assessed with the originally proposed cut-off,were above 70%in both Italian and Spanish students,with a higher prevalence in the Spanish sample(Italian females 76.3%,Italian males 70.7%;Spanish females 97.0%,Spanish males 96.3%).According to ORTO-7,about 30%of Italian and 48%of Spanish students were positive to ON with no significant sex *** excluding students underweight(UW),overweight(OW)or obese(OB),as well as those potentially at risk of eating disorders or presenting mild,moderate and severe distress,in the resultant normal weight(NW)-K10neg-EAT-26neg subgroup,we did not find many correlations observed in the whole sample,including those between ORTO scores and BUT,SSI,Total MBSRQ and some of its ***,ORTO-7 resulted in the only ON score unrelated with Body Mass Index,MBS

Hepatitis C treatment in the elderly:New possibilities and controversies towards interferon-free regimens

Due to the progressive aging of the hepatitis C virus(HCV) population which have acquired the infection during its maximum spread after the Second World War, the management of the elderly HCV-infected patient is emerging as a hot topic. Unfortunately, although it is recognized that the progression of HCV-related liver disease gets faster with aging, and that even extrahepatic manifestations of HCV infection are probably worse in the elderly, till now, treatment attempts in this population have been significantly limited by the wellknown contraindications and side effects of interferon(IFN). The arrival of several new anti-HCV drugs, and the possibility to combine them in safe and effective anti-viral regimens, is relighting the hope of a cure for many elderly patients who had been cut out of IFN-based treatments. However, although these new regimens will be certainly more manageable, it should be underscored that IFN-free doesn't mean free from any contraindication or side-effect. Moreover, one issue which promises to become central is that of the possible interactions between antiviral therapy and the multiple drugs frequently assumed by elderly patients because of comorbidities. In this review, we will revise the epidemiology pointing to HCV as an infection of the elderly, the evidences that HCV harms the health of the aged patient more than that of the young one, and the available experiences of HCV treatment in the elderly with the "old" IFN-based regimens and with the newer drugs. We will conclude that the availability of IFNfree regimens should prompt us to change our mind and consider a significantly larger number of possible candidates among elderly patients, who would take significant advantage from viral eradication. Rather than the anagraphic age, drug-drug interactions and, mainly in case of economic restrictions, an evaluation of life expectancy dependent on liver disease with respect to that dependent on comorbidities, are likely to be the key issues g

Characterization and catalytic activity of soft-templated Ni0-CeO_(2) mixed oxides for CO and CO_(2) co-methanation

Nanosized NiO,CeO_(2) and NiO-CeO_(2) mixed oxides with different Ni/Ce molar ratios were prepared by the soft template *** the samples were characterized by different techniques as to their chemical composition,structure,morphology and *** the catalysts submitted to the same reduction pretreatment adopted for the activity tests the surface basic properties and specific metal surface area were also *** and CeO_(2) nanocrystals of about 4 nm in size were obtained,regardless of the Ni/Ce molar *** Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results proved the formation of defective sites at the NiO-CeO_(2) interface,where Ni species are in strong interaction with the *** microcalorimetric and Fourier transform infrared analyses of the reduced samples highlighted that,unlike metallic nickel,CeO_(2) is able to effectively adsorb CO_(2),forming carbonates and hydrogen *** reduction in H2 at 400°C for 1 h,the catalytic performance was studied in the CO and CO_(2) co-methanation *** tests were performed at atmospheric pressure and 300°C,using CO/CO_(2)/H_(2) molar compositions of 1/1/7 or 1/1/5,and space velocities equal to 72000 or 450000 cm^(3)∙h^(-1)∙gcat^(-1).Whereas CO was almost completely hydrogenated in any investigated experimental conditions,CO_(2) conversion was strongly affected by both the CO/CO_(2)/H_(2) ratio and the space *** faster and definitely preferred CO hydrogenation was explained in the light of the different mechanisms of CO and CO_(2) *** a selected sample,the influence of the reaction temperature and of a higher number of space velocity values,as well as the stability,were also *** that the Ni content is optimized,the NiCe system investigated was very promising,being highly active for the CO_(x) co-methanation reaction in a wide range of operating conditions and stable(up to 50 h)also when submitted to thermal stress.

Nanoparticles with high payloads of pipemidic acid, a poorly soluble crystalline drug: drug-initiated polymerization and self-assembly approach

Nowadays, biodegradable polymers such as poly(lactic acid)(PLA), poly(D,L-lactic-coglycolic acid)(PLGA) and poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) remain the most common biomaterials to produce drug-loaded nanoparticles(NPs). Pipemidic acid(PIP) is a poorly soluble antibiotic with a strong tendency to crystallize. PIP incorporation in PLA/PLGA NPs was challenging because of PIP crystals formation and burst release. As PIP had a poor affinity for the NPs, an alternative approach to encapsulation was used, consisting in coupling PIP to PCL. Thus, a PCL–PIP conjugate was successfully synthesized by an original drug-initiated polymerization in a single step without the need of ***–PIP was characterized by NMR, IR, SEC and mass spectrometry. PCL–PIP was used to prepare selfassembled NPs with PIP contents as high as 27%(w/w). The NPs were characterized by microscopy,DLS, NTA and TRPS. This study paves the way towards the production of NPs with high antibiotic payloads by drug-initiated polymerization. Further studies will deal with the synthesis of novel polymer–PIP conjugates with ester bonds between the drug and PCL. PIP can be considered as a model drug and the strategy developed here could be extended to other challenging antibiotics or anticancer drugs and employed to efficiently incorporate them in NPs.

Ampulla of Vater carcinoma: Molecular landscape and clinical implications

Ampulla of Vater is a peculiar anatomical structure, characterized by the crossroad of three distinct epithelia: Intestinal, ductal pancreatic and biliary. Adenocarcinomas arising in this area represent an opportunity to understand the comparative biology of all periampullary malignancies. These neoplasms can exhibit intestinal, pancreaticobiliary or mixed features, whereas the subclassification based on morphology and immunohistochemical features failed in demonstrating a robust prognostic reliability. In the last few years, the molecular landscape of this tumor entity has been uncovered, identifying alterations that may serve as prognostic and predictive biomarkers. In this review, the histological and genetic characteristics of ampullary carcinomas are discussed, taking into account the main clinical and therapeutic implications related to this tumor type as well.

This article discusses the role assumed by management accounting as a discipline over years. Management accounting has long lived in the shadow of financial accounting, and has been often accused of fostering productivity rather than creativity. The revolution involving the business environment in the last decades has much improved the role of creativity and innovation and the adaptability of the fn-m to the context often was a key to success. This article supports the innovative role of management accounting in the post-modem era, aimed at reducing the strategic dominance of the increasing uncertainty.

Assessing liver injury associated with antimycotics:Concise literature review and clues from data mining of the FAERS database

AIM: To inform clinicians on the level of hepatotoxicrisk among antimycotics in the post-marketing setting,following the marketing suspension of oral ketocon-azole for drug-induced liver injury(DILI).METHODS: The publicly available international FAERSdatabase(2004-2011) was used to extract DILI cases(including acute liver failure events), where antimycot-ics with systemic use or potential systemic absorptionwere reported as suspect or interacting agents. The re-porting pattern was analyzed by calculating the report-ing odds ratio and corresponding 95%CI, a measure ofdisproportionality, with time-trend analysis where ***: From 1687284 reports submitted over the8-year period, 68115 regarded liver injury. Of these,2.9% are related to antimycotics(1964 cases, of which 112 of acute liver failure). Eleven systemic antimycotics(including ketoconazole and the newer triazole deriva-tives voriconazole and posaconazole) and terbinafine(used systemically to treat onychomicosis) generated a significant disproportionality, indicating a post-market-ing signal of ***: Virtually all antimycotics with systemic action or absorption are commonly reported in clinically significant cases of DILI. Clinicians must be aware of this aspect and monitor patients in case switch is con-sidered, especially in critical poly-treated patients under chronic treatment.
