Comparison between upfront surgery and neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer:A systematic review

Functional groups’performances as influenced by nitrogen,phosphorus and nodule inhibition of legumes

Aims Nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)constitute essential elements for plant growth and their availability influence species diversity in herbaceous plant *** exhibit relatively high abundance in N-limited ***,the legumes’N:P ratios are much higher than those of the other plant species grown in the same site,probably because they are able to fix atmospheric *** objective of this study was to determine how the relative proportion in N and P availability and the restriction of legumes to fix atmospheric N2 affect:(i)the primary productivity of plant species,(ii)species composition and(iii)N and P concentrations of *** In an outdoor experiment,mixtures containing grasses,legumes and non-legume forbs were established in 32 containers under four soil treatments(control,N addition,P addition and disinfected soil),in a completely randomized design with eight *** growth was examined when N and P were limited in the control soil:sand mixture,in a pot experiment sown with Plantago *** Findings The pot experiment indicated that both N and P were limiting for the growth of *** treatments affected primary productivity and species *** had a relatively high abundance in the control and their growth was favoured,especially that of Medicago sativa,by P ***’growth was increased by the addition of *** of rhizobia resulted in poor growth of legumes and concomitant higher growth of grasses,in comparison to the *** N:P ratios of non-legume species differed between treatments and were always higher in the legume species,even in the disinfected *** latter provides evidence that the high N concentrations found in legumes are a physiological characteristic of this specific group of plants.

Locus of control theory,which was developed by Rotter,suggests that there are two main types of peoples’behaviors when attributing their failure or success of their life events:external locus of control and *** way that individuals act is determined by their expectations of their specific behaviors and the value that they add to these *** instance,people who fit in the internal category are more likely to attribute their life events to their own behaviors,skills,and attitudes,while people who fit in the external category,tend to attribute their acts to fate,chance,and other exterior factors that are out of their *** aim of this systematic literature review was to define the fundamental concept of LOC theory,to investigate major findings of the theory in accordance with LOC and procrastination,job satisfaction,and performance and lastly,to discuss the practical use of the theory in the organizational context.

This paper analyses the impact of geopolitical risks and economic policy uncertainty on stock *** uses an unbalanced panel dataset of monthly observations for 22 countries for the period 1985–*** controls for a set of macroeconomic and market structure variables while also taking into consideration the poten-tial effects of the 2007–2009 financial *** paper shows that the impact of geopolitical risks is negative and statistically *** economic interpretation of our main results is that a one-unit standard deviation increase in geopolitical risks decreases stock returns by 10.53–42.14%of its sample *** comparison,this paper uses alternatively the global economic policy uncertainty index and the economic policy uncertainty country index,and also finds a statistically significant negative relationship although it is weaker in the latter case.

Phenolic Antioxidants in Cypriot Wines as a Tool for Their Varietal Discrimination： Preliminary Results

A total of 56 wines from different vintages and wine-growing regions of Cyprus were used to analyze six biologically interesting phenolic antioxidants （gallic acid, catechin, vanillic acid, epicatechin, coumaric and feroulic acid） by high performance liquid chromatography. The study includes red and white Cypriot authentic wines from local and imported varieties that were produced under the same vinification conditions at a Model Winery. Results extracted after the chemometric analysis of the measured concentrations show a strong relationship of the phenolic antioxidative capacity with the variety of the wines and gallic acid followed by vanillic acid found in the highest concentrations of the other antioxidants studied. Comparing the concentrations found with bibliographic data for wines from other countries, it was found that, the concentration levels of vanillic and ferulic acid were significantly higher for Cypriot wines.

Leptomeningeal metastases originated from esophagogastric junction/gastric cancer:A brief report of two cases

Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis is a very rare manifestation in patients diagnosed with esophagogastric junction and gastric cancer. Its prognosis is ominous and therapy outcomes are disappointing. Herein, we present two patients; one initially diagnosed with gastric cancer and leptomeningeal carcinomatosis but no other evidence of metastatic disease and the other one initially diagnosed with esophagogastric junction cancer, who recurred solitary with leptomeningeal seedings several years after the initial diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, a thorough and short review of the literature is carried out.

Fungi are an essential component of the *** play an integral role in the decomposition of leaf litter and return nutrients to the ecosystem through nutrient *** are considered as the“key players”in leaf litter decomposition,because of their ability to produce a wide range of extracellular ***-related changes of fungal communities during leaf litter decomposition have been relatively ***,it has not been established how the tree species,tree phylogeny,and leaf litter chemistry influence fungal communities during *** direct observations and a culturing approach,this study compiles fungi found in freshly collected leaf litter from five phylogenetically related,native tree species in Taiwan:Celtis formosana(CF),Ficus ampelas(FA),Ficus septica(FS),Macaranga tanarius(MT),and Morus australis(MA).We investigated(i)the effects of tree species(including tree phylogeny)and leaf litter chemistry on fungal community succession,and(ii)specific patterns of fungal succession(including diversity and taxonomic community assembly)on decomposing leaf litter across the selected tree *** hypothesized that host species and leaf litter chemistry significantly affect fungal community succession.A total of 1325 leaves(CF:275,FA:275,FS:275,MT:275 and MA:225)were collected and 236 fungal taxa were recorded(CF:48,FA:46,FS:64,MT:42 and MA:36).Tree species relationships had variable associations on the fungal communities,as even closely related tree species had strongly differing communities during decomposition.A high number of species were unique to a single tree species and may indicate‘host-specificity’to a particular leaf *** overlap of microfungal species in pair wise comparisons of tree species was low(7–16%),and only 1–2%of microfungal species were observed in leaves of all tree *** percentage of occurrences of fungal communities using Hierarchical Cluster Analyses(HCA)showed that there were at least f

Surgical chest complications after liver transplantation

Liver transplantation is a major abdominal operation and the intimate anatomic relation of the liver with the right hemidiaphragm predisposes the patient to various manifestations in the chest ***,chronic liver disease affects pulmonary function before and after liver transplantation resulting in a considerable percentage of patients presenting with morbidity related to chest *** review aims to identify the potential chest complications of surgical interest during or after liver *** of surgical interest are defined as those conditions that necessitate an invasive procedure(such as thoracocentesis or a chest tube placement)in the chest or a surgical intervention performed by a thoracic *** complications will be classified as perioperative and postoperative;the latter will be categorized as early and *** thoracocentesis or a chest tube placement is usually sufficient when invasive measures are deemed necessary,in some patients,thoracic surgical interventions are warranted.A high index of suspicion is needed to recognize and treat these conditions promptly.A close collaboration between abdominal surgeons,intensive care unit physicians and thoracic surgeons is of paramount importance.
