High interpretable machine learning classifier for early glaucoma diagnosis

Explanations for 20th Century Tuberculosis Decline: How the Public Gets It Wrong

Introduction: Historical analysis of health data indicates that the majority of the decrease in tuberculosis mortality during the past century was caused by improved social conditions and public health interventions. The purpose of this study was to assess lay public perceptions regarding why tuberculosis declined. Materials and Methods: A nationally representative sample of 705 adults was surveyed to identify their perceived reasons for the decline in tuberculosis mortality in the 20th century. Open- ended questions and responses were coded and placed into eight categories. Results: Approximately 52% of decreasing tuberculosis mortality was attributed to “modern medicine,” and 220% to “vaccination.” Comparatively few of the respondents attributed decreased tuberculosis mortality rates to public health or improvements in social health determinants of health. Males gave more credit to modern medicine and public health, with less to vaccination;the other racial group gave more credit to public health and less to modern medicine;Hispanics gave more credit to modern medicine and less to vaccinations;and the higher income groups gave more credit to vaccinations and public health, but less to modern medicine. Conclusion: The public overly attributes modern medicine as the primary cause of declining tuberculosis mortality rates, the second leading cause of death in the United States during the early 1900s, and gives little credit to the critical role played by public health and improved social conditions. These misperceptions may hinder societal efforts to address and fund important social determinants of health and public health interventions.

background:Reconciling agriculture and biodiversity conservation is a challenge given the growing demand for agricultural *** recent decades,Argentina has witnessed agricultural expansion and intensification affecting biodiversity and associated ecosystem *** agroecosystems,the level of habitat quality is critical for birds,and may depend on vegetation structure,availability of invertebrate prey,and the use of *** the relationship between vegetation structure and avian occurrence has been widely studied,to our knowledge,there are no studies that also incorporate prey availability throughout the cycle of soybean crops in *** estimated and predicted the effects of land cover and temporal variation on the occurrence of avian foraging guilds in Entre Ríos,Argentina,in order to guide management related to potential ecosystem services provided by *** also estimated temporal effects of vegetation structure and insecticides on the main arthropod orders consumed by birds to evaluate prey ***:We conducted bird and arthropod surveys for 2 years along transects located in 20 randomly selected soybean fields(N=60)and their adjacent borders(N=78)throughout the crop growing season,in four *** estimated avian occupancy,accounting for imperfect detection,and arthropod counts fitting generalized linear mixed ***:The number of native trees in field borders positively influenced the occurrence of most bird species,mainly *** foliage gleaners,also were positively affected by grass *** and aerial foragers were weakly affected by distance to forest and native *** general,the availability of invertebrates to birds was highest during the third *** counts in borders were greater during the last three crop stages than during the pre-sowing ***:We found that with 10 to 15 native tree species in borders,coupled with a complex vegetation structure w

Thinking about the problem of terrorism, the author finds its origins in the myth of the Trojan War, treating it as a battle for space, which was the primary basis for the civilizational leap--the expansion of the Greek world to the east, which led to the flourishing of Greek culture, creating a precedent of justified colonialism, provided strategy and tactics-the causal apology of violence-all subsequent wars, colonial campaigns, which was no exception for the migratory flows of the XX century, as a result of which the word ＂terrorism＂ sounded with by force of the song of b. brecht. The theme of ＂space＂-chucked away, lost, taken away, destroyed, compressed, anarchic, empty, boundless, virtual-remains vital in our time, when the limitless possibilities lead to the limitation of man himself, his emptiness, and ＂complete shortuess＂（Platonov）, when the treaty as the basis of human existence is rejected, and when you become the Other yourself. The metaphysics of ＂violence＂ is buried in anthropology-in ignorance of one＇s limits by man, in denying the boundaries of ＂another＇s,＂ in unwillingness to ask a question mad find the answer, in laziness and, in fact, in the loss of oneself.

We report on the biodegradation of pure hydrocarbons and chemotaxis towards these compounds by an isolated chlorophenol degrader,Pseudomonas strain *** biochemical and phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rDNA sequence identified Pseudomonas strain H as having 99.56% similarity with *** *** strain was able to degrade n-hexadecane,1-undecene,1-nonene,1-decene,1-dodecene and *** grew in the presence of 1-octene,while this hydrocarbons is toxic to other hydrocarbons *** strain H was also chemotactic towards n-hexadecane,kerosene,1-undecene and *** results show that this Pseudomonas strain H is an attractive candidate for hydrocarbon-containing wastewater bioremediation in controlled *** the classical standard techniques for detecting chemotaxis are not efficient at low bacterial concentrations,we demonstrate the use of the dynamic speckle laser method,which is simple and inexpensive,to confirm bacterial chemotaxis at low cell concentrations （less than 105 colony-forming unit per millilitre （CFU/mL）） when hydrocarbons are the attractants.

To date,skin wounds are still an issue for healthcare *** numerous approaches have been developed over the years for skin regeneration,recent advances in regenerative medicine offer very promising strategies for the fabrication of artificial skin substitutes,including 3D bioprinting,electrospinning or spraying,among *** particular,skin sprays are an innovative technique still under clinical evaluation that show great potential for the delivery of cells and hydrogels to treat acute and chronic *** sprays present significant advantages compared to conventional treatments for wound healing,such as the facility of application,the possibility to treat large wound areas,or the homogeneous distribution of the sprayed *** this article,we review the latest advances in this technology,giving a detailed description of investigational and currently commercially available acellular and cellular skin spray products,used for a variety of diseases and applying different experimental ***,as skin sprays products are subjected to different classifications,we also explain the regulatory pathways for their commercialization and include the main clinical trials for different skin diseases and their treatment ***,we argue and suggest possible future trends for the biotechnology of skin sprays for a better use in clinical dermatology.

Post-partum reactivation of chronic hepatitis b virus infection among hepatitis b e-antigen-negative women

AIM: To investigate the frequency and timing of post-partum chronic hepatitis b virus(HbV) reactivation and identify its pre-partum predictors. METHODS: Forty-one hepatitis b e antigen(Hbe Ag)-negative chronic HbV infected pregnant women were prospectively evaluated between the 28 th and the 32 nd week of gestation. Subjects were re-evaluated at 3-mo intervals during the first post-partum year and every 6 mo during the following years. HbV DNA was determined using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(Cobas Taq Man HbV Test) with a lower detection limit of 8 IU/m L. Post-partum reactivation(PPR) was defined as abnormal alanine aminotransaminase(ALT) levels and HbV DNA above 2000 IU/m L. RESULTS: Fourteen out of 41 women(34.1%) had prepartum HbV DNA levels > 2000 IU/m L, 18(43.9%) had levels ble levels. Fourteen women were lost to follow-up(failure to return). PPR occurred in 8 of the 27(29.6%) women evaluated, all within the first 6 mo after delivery(5 at month 3; 3 at month 6). Five of the 6(83.3%) women with pre-partum HbV DNA > 10000 IU/m L exhibited PPR compared with 3 of the 21(14.3%) women with HbV DNA bV DNA > 2000 and the third with HbV DNA of 1850IU/m L), P = 0.004. An HbV DNA level ≥ 10000 IU/m L independently predicted post-partum HbV infection reactivation(OR = 57.02, P = 0.033). Mean pre-partum ALT levels presented a non-significant increase in PPR cases(47.3 IU/L vs 22.2 IU/L, respectively, P = 0.094).CONCLUSION: In the present study, PPR occurred in approximately 30% of Hbe Ag-negative pregnant women; all events were observed during the first semester after delivery. Pre-partum HbV DNA level > 10000 IU/m L predicted PPR.

AZ91D镁合金组织遗传性现象利用的研究

通过向AZ91D铸锭熔化后的熔体中添加一定量的细晶AZ91D压铸件,对利用AZ91D镁合金组织遗传性细化铸件晶粒、提高合金力学性能进行了初步研究。结果表明:通过添加1%和5%的压铸件,重熔后试样的晶粒得到了细化,晶粒尺寸可以达到100μm左右;添加压铸件后,合金的拉伸力学性能有较大提高,添加5%压铸件熔体保温20min时σb提高了30%,σ0.2提高了47%,δ提高了60%;由于包含细晶特征的原子集团不能在熔体中稳定存在,当原子集团分裂后达到一定特性尺寸时将失去遗传特性,所以组织遗传性对合金的晶粒细化和力学性能的影响是随着熔体保温时间逐渐减弱直至消失的。
