Efficacy of the vaccination in inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel disease (IbD) is associated with conditions that may predispose to infections, such as the lack of an appropriate innate immune response to infectious agents, malnutrition, surgery, and immunosuppressive and biological drugs. Some of these infections may be preventable by vaccination. Therefore, for this particular patient population, the benefits of implementing a well-established immunization protocol in daily clinical practice are potentially even greater than for the general population. In recent years international consensus guidelines have been published, but in spite of theses recommendations, studies have shown that a significant number of patients with IbD remain inadequately immunized. Another important issue regarding immunization in this population is that vaccine efficacy among patients receiving immunosuppressive therapies has been variable. In a healthy population, a humoral immune response to hepatitis b vaccination (HbV) is expected in > 90%, whereas a much lower rate is achieved in the IbD patients. Immunosuppressive, anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy and disease activity have been implicated in the impaired efficacy of the vaccination. The serological response to HbV should be confirmed and patients with an inadequate response should receive a second full series of vaccine. Modified dosing regimens, including doubling the standard antigen dose, might increase the effectiveness. Response to influenza, pneumococcal and tetanus immunization is still not clear, as there are studies that show a normal response to the vaccination while others demonstrate a lack of efficacy. We pose a series of questions on the efficacy of the different vaccinations recommended for IbD patients and attempt to answer them using scientific evidence.

Self-assemblies of plasmonic gold/layered double hydroxides with highly efficient antiviral effect against the hepatitis b virus

Engineering complex nanocomposites that specifically target the hepatitis b virus （HbV） and overcome the limitations of current therapies such as limited efficacy and serious side effects is very challenging. Here, for the first time, the antiviral effect of engineered plasmonic gold and layered double hydroxide self-assemblies （AuNPs/LDHs） is demonstrated, using HbV as a model virus and hepatoma-derived HepG2.2.215 ceils for viral replication, assembly, and secretion of infectious virions and subviral particles. AuNPs/LDHs were obtained by a simple, cost-effective procedure in which small AuNPs （-3.5 nm） were directly obtained and organized on the surface of larger LDH nanoparticles （-150 nm） by exploiting the capability of MgLDH, ZnLDH, and MgFeLDH to manifest their ＂structural memory＂ in the aqueous solution of Au（O2CCH3）3. The self-assembly approach of AuNPs and LDHs was assessed by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, powder X-ray diffraction （PXRD）, and UV-Vis analysis （UV-Vis）. All AuNPs/LDHs tested reduced the amount of viral and subviral particles released from treated cells by up to 80% and exhibited good cytocompatibility. AuNPs/MgFeLDH showed the highest antiviral HbV response with more than 90% inhibition of HbV secretion for the whole concentration range. Preliminary studies on the mechanism of HbV inhibition reveals that in the presence of AuNPs/LDHs, HbV particles are sequestered within the treated cells. The antiviral and low cytotoxic plasmonic properties of these Au/LDH nanocomposites indicate that they hold significant potential to be tailored as novel efficient therapeutics for the treatment of hepatitis b.

Characterization and Electrochemical Properties of Nanostructured Zr-Doped Anatase TiO_2 Tubes Synthesized by Sol–Gel Template Route

A series of nanostructured Zr-doped anatase TiO_2 tubes with the Zr/Ti molar ratio of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, and0.09 were prepared by a sol–gel technology on a carbon fiber template. The electrochemical performance of Zr-doped anatase TiO_2 as anodes for rechargeable lithium batteries was investigated and compared with undoped titania. Tests represented that after 35-fold charge/discharge cycling at C/10 the reversible capacity of Zr-doped titania（Zr/Ti = 0.03） reaches 135 m A h g^（-1）, while the capacity of undoped titania（Zr/Ti = 0） yielded only 50 m A h g^（-1）. based on the results of the physicochemical investigation, three reasons of improving electrochemical performance of Zr-doped titania were suggested. According to the scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, Zr^（4＋） doping induces a decrease in nanoparticle size, which facilitates the Li＋diffusion. The Raman investigations show the more open structure of Zr-doped TiO_2 as compared to undoped titania due to changing of the unit cell parameters, that significantly affects on the reversibility of the insertion/extraction process. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results indicate that substitution of Zr^（4＋） for Ti^（4＋） into anatase TiO_2 has favorable effects on the conductivity.

Study of cobalt ferrite nanosuspensions for low-frequency ferromagnetic hyperthermia

High-coercive cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized and studied for magnetic hyperthermia by direct injection of their suspension into a tumor and application of a strong audio-frequency magnetic field for heating. Physical （dynamic magnetic hysteresis and heat generation in both liquid and solid dispersions）, biological （toxicity and penetration of particles in therapeutic quantities into mouse tumor tissue） as well as other properties of the particles were studied. A model was developed to describe the magnetodynamics in suspensions of magnetic nanoclusters with an account for both brownian and regular rotations, to provide understanding of observed phenomena. The experimental and theoretical techniques developed have formed a basis for controllable synthesis of the magnetic nanoparticles for low-frequency heat generation in medical and other applications.

Infection with hepatotropic viruses is not limited to the liver and can lead to the development of various immunological disorders(the formation of cryoglobulins,rheumatoid factor,antinuclear antibodies,autoantibodies specific for autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis,and others),which can manifest as glomerulonephritis,arthritis,uveitis,vasculitis(cryoglobulinemic vasculitis,polyarteritis nodosa,Henoch-Schonlein purpura,isolated cutaneous necrotizing vasculitis),and other rheumatologic disorders,and be a trigger for the subsequent development of autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis.A further study of the association between autoimmune liver diseases and hepatotropic virus infection would be useful to assess the results of treatment of these associated diseases with antiviral *** relationship of these immune disorders and their manifestations with hepatotropic viruses is best studied for chronic hepatitis b and *** isolated cases of these associations are described for hepatitis *** links are least studied,and are often controversial for hepatitis E,possibly due to their relatively rare *** with uveitis,glomerulonephritis,arthritis,vasculitis,autoimmune liver diseases should be tested for biomarkers of viral hepatitis,and if present,these patients should be treated with antiviral drugs.

A nonlinear differential equation system with nonlinearities of a sector type is studied. Using the Lyapunov direct method and the comparison method, conditions are derived under which the zero solution of the system is stable with respect to all variables and asymptotically stable with respect to a part of variables. Moreover, the impact of nonstationary perturbations with zero mean values on the stability of the zero solution is investigated. In addition, the corresponding time-delay system is considered for which delay-independent partial asymptotic stability conditions are found. Three examples are presented to demonstrate effectiveness of the obtained results.

In vivo assessment of structural changes of the urethra in lower urinary tract disease using cross-polarization optical coherence tomography

Early Norian flora from Partizansk River basin of Primorye, Russia

An early Norian flora from the Partizansk River basin of Primorye, Far-East of Russia, is described in detail for the first time, in which over 25 taxa are reported. The flora is dominated by cycadoalean, bennettitalean and coniferous plants, associated with a lot of ferns and czekanowskialean plants, and with a few ginkgoalean. In floristic characteristics, the flora can be well comparable with Late Triassic Mongugai flora of southwestern Primorye and its neighboring Tianqiaoling flora of eastern Jilin, China, as well with the Yamanoi and Nariwa floras from southwestern Japan. As the plant-bearing strata are sandwiched in the lower Norian marine beds yielding marine fauna, the age of the Partizansk flora is well evidenced as the early Norian. Paleophytogeographically, the flora appears to be in the ecotone of the Medio-Triassic and Arcto-Triassic floristic regions in Eurasia, and indicates probably warm temperate or subtropic vegetation in nature. Four new species are reported in this paper, including Ctenis elegantus sp. nov, Ixostrobus pacificus sp. nov., Elatocladus elegantus sp. nov. and E. prynadae sp. nov.
