Evaluation of phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of Polygonatum verticillatum(L.)

Objective： Polygonaturn verticillatum （L） All. （Ruscaceae）, one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts （petroleum ether, dichloro- methane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous） from the rhizomes of the plant. Methods： Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increas- ing polarity （petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water）. The phenolic composi- tions, in terms of total phenolic content （TPC）, total flavonoid content （TFC） and total condensed tannin content （JTC）, were evaluated with the Folin-Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl and 2,2＇-azino-his（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid） assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2- yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anti- cancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC/MS） analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition （TPC, TFC and TFC） and different biological activities. Results： Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC （0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample）, TFC （0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample） and TTC （29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample）, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroform extract exhibited the strongest cyto- toxicity against the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 90 different phytoconstituents among the extracts. Impact of binary blends of biodiesels on fuel quality,engine performance and emission characteristics

The incessant pressure of energy requirements by the growing global populace has led to the exploration of unconventional methods to produce renewable and sustainable *** these,biodiesel is most suited to the present needs of eco-friendly standards to keep the atmosphere free from residual *** fuel-modification methods were developed over a couple of decades to make biodiesel suitable for diesel *** the present research,Jatropha curcas biodiesel and waste-cooking-oil(WCO)biodiesel were used to craft a unique binary blend to obtain desirable fuel properties and operational suitability for the diesel *** blend with 80% WCO biodiesel and 20% *** biodiesel,which had the most suitable fuel properties,was tested on a four-stroke single-cylinder vertical diesel *** emissions and operational parameters were analysed and compared with *** results of the study indicated that engine emissions for binary blend,carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbon emissions were highly reduced,and carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide(NO_(x))emissions increased relative to *** full load,NO_(x) emission was found to be 51.32% higher than that from diesel and 3.8% lower than that from WCO *** performance showed that for the binary blend,at full load,the brake-specific fuel consumption was 396.82 g/kWh,which was 15.26% higher,and the brake thermal efficiency was 22.7%,which was 2.74% lower than regular diesel *** present study suggests that the binary blend of *** biodiesel and WCO biodiesel can be a promising approach towards advancements in the fuel properties of biodiesels.

Analysis and recognition of ancient scripts is a challenging task as these scripts are inscribed on pillars,stones,or *** recognition systems can help in preserving,sharing,and accelerate the study of the ancient scripts,but lack of standard dataset for such scripts is a major *** many scholars and researchers have captured and uploaded inscription images on various websites,manual searching,downloading and extraction of these images is tedious and error *** search queries return a vast number of irrelevant results,and manually extracting images for a specific script is not *** paper proposes a novelmultistage system to identify the specific set of script images from a large set of images downloaded from web *** proposed system combines the two most important pattern matching techniques-Scale Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT)and Template matching,in a sequential pipeline,and by using the key strengths of each technique,the system can discard irrelevant images while retaining a specific type of images.

Double-face urethroplasty in patients with obliterative bulbar strictures post-transurethral resection of the prostate mid-term outcomes in high-volume referral center

We study the phenomenon of neutrino spin-flavor oscillations due to solar magnetic *** allows us to examine how significantly the electron neutrinos produced in the solar interior undergo a resonant spin-flavor *** construct analytical models for the solar magnetic field in all the three regions of the *** spin-flavor oscillations in this magnetic field are examined by studying the level crossing phenomenon and comparing the two cases of zero and non-zero vacuum mixing *** from the Borexino experiment are used to place an upper limit on the magnetic field in the solar *** phenomena such as effects of matter on neutrino spin transitions and differences between Dirac and Majorana transitions in the solar magnetic fields are also discussed.

Magnets, children and the bowel: A dangerous attraction?

Reports of magnet ingestion are increasing rapidly globally. However, multiple magnet ingestion, the subsequent potential complications and the importance of the early identification and proper management remain both under-recognized and underestimated. Published literature on such cases could possibly represent only the tip of an iceberg with press reports, web blogs and government documents highlighting further occurrence of many more such incidents. The increasing number of complications worldwide being reported secondary to magnet ingestion point not only to an acute lack of awareness about this condition among the medical profession but also among parents and carers who will be in most cases the first to pick up on magnet ingestion. There still seems to be no consensus on the management of magnet ingestion with several algorithms being proposed for management. Prevention of this condition remains a much better option than cure. Proper education and improved awareness among parents and carers and frontline medical staff is key in addressing this rapidly emerging problem. The goal of managing such cases of suspected magnet ingestion should be aimed at reducing delays between ingestion time, diagnosis time and intervention time.

Separation of Metallic and Semiconducting Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Through Fluorous Chemistry

Separation of metallic from semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes has been a major challenge for some time and some previous efforts have resulted in partial success. We have accomplished the separation effectively by employing fl uorous chemistry wherein the diazonium salt of 4-heptadecafl uorooc tylaniline selectively reacts with the metallic nanotubes present in the mixture of nanotubes. The resulting fl uoroderivative was extracted in perfl uorohexane leaving the semiconducting nanotubes in the aqueous layer. The products have been characterized by both Raman and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The method avoids the cumbersome centrifugation step required by some other procedures.
