Palaeoecological analyses conducted at the late Devonian (Famennian 2c) Red Hill fossil locality in north-central Pennsylvania, USA, reinforces evidence that by this time interval plants were an increasing influence on the dynamics of floodplain ecosystems, contributed to landscapes with new ecological opportunities for invertebrate and vertebrate faunas, and had the potential to influence global processes.

Background:Anaemia and malaria are common and life-threatening diseases among preschool-aged children in many tropical and subtropical areas,and Malawi is no ***,this study aimed to examine the association of referral clinical malaria with anemia(hemoglobin[Hb]l)in preschool-aged children in ***:Using cross-sectional data obtained from the 2015-2016 Malawi Micronutrient Survey(MNS),multivariate logistic regression models were construaed using surveylogistic to account for the complex survey *** samples of 1051 children aged 6-59 months were evaluated for malaria(using rapid diagnostic test[RDT]-SD BIOlINE Malaria Ag P.f/Pan test histidine-rich protein(HRP-Ⅱ)^™),Hb(using HemoCue 301),a-1-acid glycoprotein(AGP),and serum ferritin biomarkers(using simple sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique,ElISA)and inherited blood disorders from dry blood samples(DBS)using polymerize chain reaaion(PCR).Diagnosis of clinical malaria was made on the basis of fever and a positive rapid diagnostic test(RDT).Results:Of the 1051 PSC analysed,29%had anaemia while 24.4%had a referral to the hospital due to *** adjustments for known confounders,PSC with a history of referral clinical malaria had increased odds of being anaemic(adjusted odds ratio[aOR]=4.63,95%confidence interval[Cf]:2.90-7.40),Plinical malaria increased the risk of anaemia in PSC Thus,elimination of malariacausing parasites from the PSCs blood should be rapid and complete in order to prevent the progression of uncomplicated malaria to a chronic infection that can lead to the development of malaria-related anaemia.

The prevention of lethal prostate cancer is a critical public health challenge that would improve health and reduce suffering from this disease. In this review, we discuss the evidence surrounding specific lifestyle and dietary factors in the prevention of lethal prostate cancer. We present a summary of evidence for the following selected behavioral risk factors： obesity and weight change, physical activity, smoking, antioxidant intake, vitamin D and calcium, and coffee intake.

Uveal melanoma is the most common intraocular cancer in the adult eye.R183 and Q209 were found to be mutational hotspots in exon 4 and exon 5 of GNAQ and GNA11 in ***,only a few studies have reported somaticmutations in GNAQ or GNA11 in uveal melanoma in *** extracted somatic DNA from paraffin-embedded biopsies of 63 Chinese uveal melanoma samples and sequenced the entire coding regions of exons 4 and 5 in GNAQ and *** results showed that 33%of Chinese uveal melanoma samples carried Q209 mutations while none had R183 mutation in GNAQ or *** addition,seven novel missense somatic mutations in GNAQ(Y192C,F194l,P170S,D236N,l232F,V230A,and M227I)and four novel missense somatic mutations in GNA11(R166C,I200T,S225F,and V206M)were found in our *** high mutation frequency of Q209 and the novel missense mutations detected in this study suggest that GNAQ and GNA11 are common targets for somatic mutations in Chinese uveal melanoma.

Ecological and Chemotypic Analysis for Improved Growth and Management of Naturally Occurring Black Cohosh (<i>Actaea racemosa</i>l.) Populations in Western Maryland

Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa l.) is a perennial herb native to deciduous woodlands in eastern North America with an extensive history of traditional use, most commonly for rheumatoid arthritis and female reproductive issues. Modern clinical research has maintained this herb’s relevance into the 21st century with a majority of authentic black cohosh raw material still harvested from naturally occurring populations in Appalachian woodlands for use in botanical supplements. Increased use and interest in black cohosh have led to increased wild harvesting, reports of adulteration, and stress on this important natural resource. In an effort to study this significant medicinal plant as part of an ecosystem, and to understand factors that would contribute to the more effective growth and maintenance of black cohosh, key chemical, physiological, and ecological aspects of two occurring populations in western Maryland were surveyed. Rhizomes were harvested from six populations of naturally occurring black cohosh in two state forests located in the Allegheny Plateau and Ridge and Valley physiogeographic provinces of Maryland. The concentrations of five medicinal compounds found in black cohosh extracts, actein, 23-epi-26-deoxyactein, cafeic acid, ferulicacid, and N-methylserotonin, were compared with plant reproductive status as well as accompanying overstory and under story species, soil moisture, and soil pH at each site. Compound levels showed a complex dependence on physiography but were independent of reproductive state. The findings provide clues to guide efforts at effective growth and management of wild populations of black cohosh and other threatened medicinal plants.
