Diterpenoid alkaloids(DAs) have been often utilized in clinical practice due to their analgesic and anti-infammatory properties. Natural DAs are prevalent in the family Ranunculaceae, notably in the Aconitum genus. Nevertheless, the evolutionary origin of the biosynthesis pathway responsible for DA production remains *** this study, we successfully assembled a highquality, pseudochromosome-level genome of the DA-rich species Aconitum vilmorinianum(***)(5.76 Gb). An A. vilmorinianumspecific whole-genome duplication event was discovered using comparative genomic analysis,which may aid in the evolution of the DA biosynthesis pathway. We identified several genes involved in DA biosynthesis via integrated genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic analyses. These genes included enzymes encoding target ent-kaurene oxidases and aminotransferases, which facilitated the activation of diterpenes and insertion of nitrogen atoms into diterpene skeletons, thereby mediating the transformation of diterpenes into DAs. The divergence periods of these genes in A. vilmorinianum were further assessed, and it was shown that two major types of genes were involved in the establishment of the DA biosynthesis pathway. Our integrated analysis offers fresh insights into the evolutionary origin of DAs in *** as well as suggestions for engineering the biosynthetic pathways to obtain desired DAs.

Growth parameters such as condition factor （K）, length-weight relationship, mean length for age classes, and relative growth for brown trout were investigated in different habitats of Coruh river. Fish were collected from three lakes （G bekli Lake, Koyun Lake, Kuzu Lake） and the Aksu Stream during August 2002. The b values of the length-weight relationship from G bekli and Koyun lakes were not statistically different from 3.0 （p＞0.05） and indicated isometric growth, while those of Kuzu Lake and the Aksu Stream were significantly different from 3.0 （p＜0.05） and indicated negative allometric growth. The b values for the length weight relationships of fish by habitats were significantly different with analyses of covariance （p＜0.05）. Also, condition factor and relative weight varied among the habitats. These data suggest that G bekli Lake and Koyun Lake are more suitable habitats for growth than Kuzu Lake and the Aksu Stream.

Active and passive behaviors of gold in cyanide solutions

Active and passive behaviors of pure gold（Au） and roasted gold ore（RGO） electrodes were investigated at 25 °C in de-aerated agitated cyanide *** voltammetry and potentiodynamic polarization with agitation at 100 r/min in 0.04 mol/L NaCN solution showed different peak positions and current *** tests illustrate that the peak current densities increase greatly with increasing the cyanide *** the pH value from 10 to 11 resultes in a great decrease of current density,while it increases noticeably by decreasing the agitation from 100 to 60 r/*** the presence of oxygen,Au and RGO electrodes show different characteristics of peak positions and corrosion *** potentiostatic studies show that increasing the potential from 1 to 1.4 V at pH value of 11 results in an 80% decrease of current density while decreasing the pH value from 11 to 10 at 1 V gives a 1.7 fold increase of current density,possibly due to more effective passive *** polarization,electrochemical noise measurements（ENM） during decay periods show that Au results in more passive states at high potentials,showing pitting *** ENM results show that this technique can be a promising tool for a better understanding of gold *** XPS studies prove the presence of passive oxides.

Stable isotope mixing models are used to estimate proportional contributions of sources to a mixture, such as in the analysis of animal diets, plant nutrient use, geochemistry, pollution, and forensics. We describe an algorithm implemented as SISUS software for providing a user-specified number of probabilistic exact solutions derived quickly from the extended mixing model. Our method outperforms IsoSource [1], a deterministic algorithm for providing approximate solutions to represent the solution polytope. Our method is an approximate Bayesian large sample procedure. SISUS software is freely available at ***/sisus and as an R package at ***/web/packages/sisus.

Elimination of a disulfide bridge in <i>Aspergillus niger</i>NRRL 3135 Phytase (PhyA) enhances heat tolerance and optimizes its temperature versus activity profile

In this study, the optimum temperature was lowered while the residual phytase activity after heating to 70℃ was raised in a widely utilized phytase, Aspergillus niger NRRL 3135 PhyA. This was accomplished by site-directed mutagenesis of the cysteines that are involved in the formation of a single disulfide bridge (DB). When compared to wild type (WT), three of the four mutant phytases displayed a lower optimum temperature, 42℃, and up to a four-fold increase in activity after heating. These findings have a potentially broad application to be incorporated along with other desirable features to engineer a phytase with superior physical and chem-ical attributes for animal feed applications.

Potential of Sorghum as an Alternative to Corn Forage

Climate change, which is currently characterized by increased atmospheric CO2, rising temperature, and altered pattern of precipitation, is affecting agricultural productivity. Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns will alter the ability to meet crop water requirements, water availability, crop productivity, and costs of water access across the agricultural landscape. Searching for alternative crops with lower water requirements increased yield or organic matter per unit of water are important for agricultural sustainability. Sorghum is one of the world’s important crops;a crop that is adapted to a variety of agronomic and environmental conditions, particularly to areas with low rainfall or limited access of irrigation water. Forage Sorghum is able to produce comparable yield to corn suggesting that there is a potential for Sorghum to replace corn in areas where water supply is limited. But, there is a cost since corn silage, because of its high grain content, which is typically superior in digestible energy content to Sorghum forages. There is also a lack of information on the feeding value of Sorghum silages in high producing dairy cows as well as strategies that may be used for sorghum silage to replace a portion of the corn silage in dairy cattle diets.

Cardiovascular involvement in celiac disease

Celiac disease(CD) is an autoimmune response to ingestion of gluten protein, which is found in wheat, rye, and barley grains, and results in both small intestinal manifestations, including villous atrophy, as well as systemic manifestations. The main treatment for the disease is a gluten-free diet(GFD), which typically results in the restoration of the small intestinal villi, and restoration of other affected organ systems, to their normal functioning. In an increasing number of recently published studies, there has been great interest in the occurrence of alterations in the cardiovascular system in untreated CD. Herein, published studies in which CD and cardiovascular terms appear in the title of the study were reviewed. The publications were categorized into one of several types:(1) articles(including cohort and case-control studies);(2) reviews and meta-analyses;(3) case studies(one to three patient reports);(4) letters;(5) editorials; and(6) abstracts(used when no full-length work had been published). The studies were subdivided as either heart or vascular studies, and were further characterized by the particular condition that was evident in conjunction with CD. Publication information was determined using the Google Scholar search tool. For each publication, its type and year of publication were tabulated. Salient information from each article was then compiled. It was determined that there has been a sharp increase in the number of CD-cardiovascular studies since 2000. Most of the publications are either of the type "article" or "case study". The largest number of documents published concerned CD in conjunction with cardiomyopathy(33 studies), and there have also been substantial numbers of studies published on CD and thrombosis(27), cardiovascular risk(17), atherosclerosis(13), stroke(12), arterial function(11), and ischemic heart disease(11).
