Residential building performance analysis at near extreme weather conditions in Hong Kong through a thermal-comfort-based strategy

The precise building performance assessment of residential housings in subtropical regions is usually more difficult than that for the commercial premises due to the much more complicated behavior of the occupants with regard to the change in indoor *** conventional use of a fixed schedule for window opening,clothing insulation and cooling equipment operation cannot reflect the real situation when the occupants respond to the change in thermal comfort,thus affecting the appropriateness of the assessment *** rectify the situation,a new modeling strategy in which the modification of the various operation schedules was based on the calculated thermal comfort(TC),was developed in this *** this new TC-based strategy,the realistic building performances under different cooling provision scenarios applied to a high-rise residential building under the near extreme weather conditions were investigated and *** was found that sole provision of ventilation fans could not meet the zone thermal comfort by over 68%of the time,and air-conditioning was *** optimal use of ventilation fans for cooling could only help reduce the total cooling energy demand by less than 12%at best which could only be realistically evaluated by adopting the present *** studies were conducted which revealed that some design factors could offer opportunities for reducing the total cooling energy under the near extreme weather conditions.

Aurora kinase A(Aurora-A),a serine/threonine kinase,plays a pivotal role in various cellular processes,including mitotic entry,centrosome maturation and spindle *** or gene-amplification/mutation of Aurora-A kinase occurs in different types of cancer,including lung cancer,colorectal cancer,and breast *** of Aurora-A impacts multiple cancer hallmarks,especially,immortalization,energy metabolism,immune escape and cell death resistance which are involved in cancer progression and *** review highlights the most recent advances in the oncogenic roles and related multiple cancer hallmarks of Aurora-A kinase-driving cancer therapy resistance,including chemoresistance(taxanes,cisplatin,cyclophosphamide),targeted therapy resistance(osimertinib,imatinib,sorafenib,etc.),endocrine therapy resistance(tamoxifen,fulvestrant) and ***,the mechanisms of Aurora-A kinase promote acquired resistance through modulating DNA damage repair,feedback activation bypass pathways,resistance to apoptosis,necroptosis and autophagy,metastasis,and ***,our review also summarizes the promising synthetic lethality strategy for Aurora-A inhibitors in RB1,ARID1A and MYC gene mutation tumors,and potential synergistic strategy for m TOR,PAK1,MDM2,MEK inhibitors or PD-L1 antibodies combined with targeting Aurora-A *** addition,we discuss the design and development of the novel class of Aurora-A inhibitors in precision medicine for cancer treatment.

Mini-Review:Green sustainable processes using supercritical fluid carbon dioxide

Environmentally benign carbon dioxide offers significant potential in its supercritical fluid phase to replace current reliance on a range of hazardous, relatively expensive and environmentally damaging organic solvents that are used on an extensive global basis. The unique combination of the physical properties of supercritical fluids are being exploited and further researched to continue the development and establishment of high efficiency, compact plant to provide energy and water efficient manufacturing processes. This mini-review is focused on the use and potential applications of supercritical fluid carbon dioxide for a selected range of key and emerging industrial processes as a sustainable alternative to totally eliminate or greatly reduce the requirement of numerous conventional organic solvents. Examples of the industries include： chemical extraction and purification, synthetic chemical reactions including polymerization and inorganic catalytic processes. Biochemical reactions involving enzymes, particle size engineering, textile dyeing and advanced material manufacture provide further illustrations of vital industrial activities where supercritical fluid technology processes are being implemented or developed. Some aspects relating to the economics of sustainable supercritical fluid carbon dioxide processes are also considered.

Potassium carbonate-based ternary transition temperature mixture(deep eutectic analogues)for CO_(2)absorption:Characterizations and DFT analysis

Is it possible to improve CO_(2)solubility in potassium carbonate(K_(2)CO_(3))-based transition temperature mixtures(TTMs)?To assess this possibility,a ternary transition-temperature mixture(TTTM)was prepared by using a hindered amine,2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol(AMPD).Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)was employed to detect the functional groups including hydroxyl,amine,carbonate ion,and aliphatic functional groups in the prepared *** thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),it was found that the addition of AMPD to the binary mixture can increase the thermal stability of *** viscosity findings showed that TTTM has a higher viscosity than TTM while their difference was decreased by increasing *** addition,Eyring’s absolute rate theory was used to compute the activation parameters(∆G^(*),∆H^(*),and ∆S^(*)).The CO_(2)solubility in liquids was measured at a temperature of 303.15 K and pressures up to 1.8 *** results disclosed that the CO_(2)solubility of TTTM was improved by the addition of *** the pressure of about 1.8 MPa,the CO_(2)mole fractions of TTM and TTTM were 0.1697 and 0.2022,*** confirm the experimental data,density functional theory(DFT)was *** the DFT analysis,it was found that the TTTM+CO_(2)system has higher interaction energy(|∆E|)than the TTM+CO_(2)system indicating the higher CO_(2)affinity of the former *** study might help scientists to better understand and to improve CO_(2)solubility in these types of solvents by choosing a suitable amine as HBD and finding the best combination of HBA and HBD.

Background Prediction modelling can greatly assist the health-care professionals in the management of diseases,thus sparking interest in neonatal sepsis *** main objective of the study was to provide a complete picture of performance of prediction models for early detection of neonatal *** PubMed,Scopus,CINAHL databases were searched and articles which used various prediction modelling measures for the early detection of neonatal sepsis were *** extraction was carried out based on Critical Appraisal and Data Extraction for Systematic Reviews of Prediction Modelling Studies *** data consisted of objective,study design,patient characteristics,type of statistical model,predictors,outcome,sample size and *** model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool was applied to gauge the risk of bias of the *** An aggregate of ten studies were included in the review among which eight studies had applied logistic regression to build a prediction model,while the remaining two had applied artificial *** predictors like neonatal fever,birth weight,foetal morbidity and gender,cervicovaginitis and maternal age were identified for the early detection of neonatal ***,birth weight,endotracheal intubation,thyroid hypofunction and umbilical venous catheter were promising factors for predicting late-onset sepsis;while gestational age,intrapartum temperature and antibiotics treatment were utilised as budding prognosticators for early-onset sepsis *** Prediction modelling approaches were able to recognise promising maternal,neonatal and laboratory predictors in the rapid detection of early and late neonatal sepsis and thus,can be considered as a novel way for clinician decisionmaking towards the disease diagnosis if not used alone,in the years to come.

Advancing Neuropsychiatric Care through Genetic and Molecular Insights

This study aims to explore the genetic underpinnings of neuropsychiatric diseases, contrasting them with well-characterized diseases like breast cancer, and discuss the role of specific genetic mutations and their implications for personalized treatment. The paper delves into the genetic and molecular insights of neuropsychiatric diseases, examining the role of specific genetic mutations and the potential for gene editing technologies like CRISPR. It contrasts the genetic underpinnings of neuropsychiatric diseases with well-characterized diseases like breast cancer, highlighting the potential for a shift towards molecular and genetic-based diagnostics and treatments. The study argues that a shift towards molecular and genetic-based diagnostics and treatments could revolutionize our approach to neuropsychiatric diseases, much like how biomarker tests have transformed breast cancer treatment. It concludes by advocating for a more personalized approach to healthcare, tailored to an individual’s unique genetic makeup, as the future of neuropsychiatric disease diagnosis and treatment.

Bayesian Optimization for Field-Scale Geological Carbon Storage

We present a framework that couples a high-fidelity compositional reservoir simulator with Bayesian optimization(BO)for injection well scheduling optimization in geological carbon *** work represents one of the first at tempts to apply BO and high-fidelity physics models to geological carbon *** implicit parallel accurate reservoir simulator(IPARS)is utilized to accurately capture the underlying physical processes during CO_(2)*** provides a framework for several flow and mechanics models and thus supports both stand-alone and coupled *** this work,we use the compositional flow module to simulate the geological carbon storage *** compositional flow model,which includes a hysteretic three-phase relative permeability model,accounts for three major CO_(2)trapping mechanisms:structural trapping,residual gas trapping,and solubility ***,IPARS is coupled to the International Business Machines(IBM)Corporation Bayesian Optimization Accelerator(BOA)for parallel optimizations of CO_(2)injection strategies during field-scale CO_(2)*** builds a probabilistic surrogate for the objective function using a Bayesian machine learning algorithm-the Gaussian process regression,and then uses an acquisition function that leverages the uncertainty in the surrogate to decide where to *** IBM BOA addresses the three weaknesses of standard BO that limits its scalability in that IBM BOA supports parallel(batch)executions,scales better for high-dimensional problems,and is more robust to *** demonstrate these merits by applying the algorithm in the optimization of the CO_(2)injection schedule in the Cranfield site in Mississippi,USA,using field *** optimized injection schedule achieves 16%more gas storage volume and 56%less water/surfactant usage compared with the *** performance of BO is compared with that of a genetic algorithm(GA)and a covariance matrix adaptation(CMA)-e
