Epidemiology of pelvic and acetabular fractures across 12-mo at a level-1 trauma centre

BACKGROUND Despite motor-vehicle safety advancements and increasingly rigorous workplace safety regulations,trauma/suicide remains the leading cause of death under the age of 45 in the United *** promote centralisation of care and optimisation of major trauma outcomes,in 2012 the National Health Service introduced the Trauma Network *** our knowledge,this is the first study to analyse the epidemiology of pelvic and acetabular trauma over a one-year period at a level-1 trauma centre in the United Kingdom,since nationwide introduction of the Trauma Network *** To characterize the epidemiology of high-energy pelvic and acetabular fractures over a one-year period at a level-1 trauma centre,and explore both resources required to care for these patients and opportunities for future research and injury prevention *** 227 consecutive patients at a level-1 trauma centre with pelvic and acetabular fractures were analysed between December 2017-December *** patients(<18 years)and fragility fractures were excluded,leaving 175 patients for inclusion in the *** analysis was performed using Fisher’s exact test for categorical *** 72%of pelvic and acetabular fractures occurred in male patients at a median age of 45 years.15%were the result of a suicide attempt.48%of patients required pelvic or acetabular surgery,with 38%undergoing further surgery for additional orthopaedic injuries.43%of patients were admitted to intensive *** median inpatient stay was 13 days,and the 30-day mortality was 5%.Pelvic ring trauma was more commonly associated with abdominal injury(P=0.01)and spine fractures(P<0.001)than acetabular *** shear pelvic ring fractures were associated with falls(P=0.03)while lateral compression fractures were associated with road traffic accidents(P=0.01).CONCLUSION High energy pelvic and acetabular fractures are associated with concomitant orthopaedic fractures(most commonly spine

Endocrine disrupting compounds（EDCs） and pharmaceuticals pose a challenge for water and wastewater treatment because they exist at very low concentrations in the presence of substances at much higher concentrations competing for adsorption ***-micron sized resin particles（approximately 300 nm in diameter）（SMR） were tested to evaluate their potential as a treatment for EDCs including：17-β estradiol（E2）,17-α ethinylestradiol（EE2）,estrone（E1）,bisphenol A（BPA）,and diethylstilbestrol（DES） as well as 12 *** were able to remove 98%of spiked E2,80%of EE2,87%of BPA,and up to 97%of DES from *** a 0.5 ppm mixture of E2,EE2,E1,BPA and DES,the minimum removal was24%（E2） and the maximum was 49%（DES）.They were also able to remove the pharmaceuticals from deionized water and ***,SMR are a promising advanced treatment for removal of both EDCs and pharmaceuticals.

This paper develops mathematically and empirically tractable regional and interregional model of economic devel-opment with increasing returns to scale (IRS) under the neoclassical assumptions. A one-sector, two-region model in which one region exhibits IRS is presented and the whole nation presents constant returns to scale. The development of the local IRS economy is shown to be constrained to a “moving equilibrium” path. The preliminary empirical results are sufficiently supportive of the argument to encourage further research along the lines of the model. In particular, the neoclassical model does not predict negative coefficients on the real rental value of capital in regressions explaining population or employment relative to that in the nation.

Dear Editor,Klebsiella pneumoniae(Kp)has become the most important bacterial pathogen causing high mortality rates in clinical patients due to the continuous evolution to several important variants such as carbapenem-resistant(CR-Kp),hypervirulent(hvKp)and both CR and hv ***(CR-hvKp).The high mortality caused by clinical hvKp is attributed to the non-response to antibiotic treatment.

An overview is presented on the status of studies on multiple codes in genetic sequences. Indirectly, the existence of multiple codes is recognized in the form of several rediscoveries of Second Genetic Code that is different each time. A due credit is given to earlier seminal work related to the codes often neglected in literature. The latest developments in the field of chromatin code are discussed, as well as perspectives of single-base resolution studies of nucleosome positioning, including rotational setting of DNA on the surface of the histone octamers.

Computational Intelligence Determines Effective Rationality

Rationality is a fundamental concept in economics. Most researchers will accept that human beings are not fully rational. Herbert Simon suggested that we are ＂bounded rational＂. However, it is very difficult to quantify ＂bounded rationality＂, and therefore it is difficult to pinpoint its impact to all those economic theories that depend on the assumption of full rationality. Ariel Rubinstein proposed to model bounded rationality by explicitly specifying the decision makers＇ decision-making procedures. This paper takes a computational point of view to Rubinstein＇s approach. From a computational point of view, decision procedures can be encoded in algorithms and heuristics. We argue that, everything else being equal, the effective rationality of an agent is determined by its computational power - we refer to this as the computational intelligence determines effective rationality （CIDER） theory. This is not an attempt to propose a unifying definition of bounded rationality. It is merely a proposal of a computational point of view of bounded rationality. This way of interpreting bounded rationality enables us to （computationally） reason about economic systems when the full rationality assumption is relaxed.
