Role of forests in headwater control with changing environment and society

Forest practices in headwater catchments are related to environmental and social *** aim of this study is to analyse the changing protective functions of forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.(north Bohemia,Czech Republic)since the second half of the 19th *** time,forests have gradually changed from native stands to spruce plantations(Picea abies),introducing exotic conifers(more resistant to air pollution),and,recently,back to more diverse mixed *** priority in pro-tective forest functions there shifted from flood protection to integrated control of water resources(quantity and quality).In the 1980s,forest-water interactions were degraded by consequences of extreme acid atmospheric deposition,forest die-back,and extensive *** the Jizerka catchment,first signs of recovery were observed in the early *** waters there are still affected by prolonged *** reconstruction of stream water chemistry at Jizerka follows the drop of the acid deposition in some 5 years,the revival of stream biota takes 10-15 *** 2071-2100,the pro-jected climate change shows rising annual air temperatures by 3.0-4.6℃,decreasing water yield by 65-123 mm,60%drop in'minimum residual discharge',and 20-30%rise in ***,these projected environmental changes cannot substantially decline the high potential in water resource recharge,or,start reverse processes in recent recovery from acidification and radically affect the exis-tence of planned mixed forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.

Hydrodesulfurization activities of niMo catalysts supported on mechanochemically prepared Al-Ce mixed oxides

Al2O3-CeO2 supports containing 1-10 wt%Ce were prepared mechanochemically by milling aluminum and/or cerium nitrates with ***,（nH4）4niMo6O（24）,was used as the precursor of the ni and Mo to prepare niMo6/Al2O3-CeO2 components in catalysts by impregnation *** physicochemical properties of the catalysts were determined using chemical analysis,X-ray diffraction,temperature-programmed H2 reduction,temperature-programmed nH3 desorption,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）,and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller *** catalyst acidity decreased with increasing Ce concentration in the *** showed that the niS/MoS ratio decreased two-fold for the Ce-modified alumina ***6/Al2O3,which had the highest acidity,showed the highest activity in hydrodesulfurization of 1-benzothiophene（normalized per weight of catalyst）.The concentration of surface MoOxSy species（which is equal to the concentration of Mo^（5＋）） gradually decreased to zero for catalysts with Ce concentrations 10 wt%.However,the activities of all the catalysts prepared mechanochemically from Al2O3 and Al2O3-CeO2supports significantly exceeded that of a reference niMo6/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by impregnation method using the same precursor and with the same composition.

Multi-octave-spanning supercontinuum generation through high-energy laser filaments in YAG and ZnSe pumped by a 2.4 μm femtosecond Cr:ZnSe laser

We present experimental and numerical investigations of high-energy mid-infrared filamentation with multi-octavespanning supercontinuum generation(SCG), pumped by a 2.4 μm, 250 fs Cr:ZnSe chirped-pulse laser *** SCG is demonstrated in both anomalous and normal dispersion regimes with YAG and polycrystalline ZnSe,respectively. The formation of stable and robust single filaments along with the visible-to-mid-infrared SCG is obtained with a pump energy of up to 100 μJ in a 6-mm-long YAG medium. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the highest-energy multi-octave-spanning SCG from a laser filament in a solid. On the other hand, the SCG and evenharmonic generation based on random quasi-phase matching(RQPM) are simultaneously observed from the single filaments in a 6-mm-long polycrystalline ZnSe medium with a pump energy of up to 15 μJ. The numerical simulations based on unidirectional pulse propagation equation and RQPM show excellent agreement with the measured multioctave-spanning SCG and even-harmonic generation. They also reveal the temporal structure of mid-infrared filaments,such as soliton-like self-compression in YAG and pulse broadening in ZnSe.

Severity of gastroesophageal reflux disease influences daytime somnolence: A clinical study of 134 patients underwent upper panendoscopy

AIM: To asses the relationship between severity of gastroesophageal refluxe disease and Epworth sleepiness scale as an indicator of daytime somnolence. METHODS: One hundred and thirty-four patients underwent an upper panendoscopy as indicated by the typical reflux symptoms and were also investigated with regard to somnolence. Sleepiness was evaluated by Epworth Sleepiness Scale, which was compared to the severity of endoscopic findings (Savary-Miller/modified by Siewert). Patients with psychiatric disorders or being on sedato-hypnotics as well as shift workers were excluded from the study. The relationship between the severity of the reflux disease and daytime somnolence was analyzed with the help of multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS: A positive tendency was found between the severity of the reflux disease and the corresponding Epworth Sleepiness Scale. In the case of the more severe type-Savary-Miller Ⅲ- at least a mild hypersomnia was found. For this group daytime somnolence was significantly higher than in the case of the non-erosive type of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease representing the mildest stage of reflux disease. COnCLUSIOn: The severity of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease influences daytime somnolence.

The Electrode for Potentiometric Determinаtion of Chromium (III, VI) in Wаter Solutions

The possibility of determining of chromium (III, VI) ions was investigated in this paper. It is shown that the electrode on а basis of heаzlewoodite has high selectivity to chromium (III) ions. Also the stability constants of complexes, forming in system “Cr3+-Mohr’s salt-Ca(OH)2-PVA ÷ PAA” were determined by potentiometric titration with ion-selective electrode.
