Hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease: Can we stratify at-risk populations?

metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(mAFLD)is a new nomenclature recently proposed by a panel of international experts so that the entity is defined based on positive criteria and linked to pathogenesis,replacing the traditional non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),a definition based on exclusion ***/mAFLD is currently the most common form of chronic liver disease worldwide and is a growing risk factor for development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).It is estimated than 25%of the global population have NAFLD and is projected to increase in the next *** Scientific Societies agree that surveillance for HCC should be indicated in patients with NAFLD/mAFLD and cirrhosis but differ in non-cirrhotic patients(including those with advanced fibrosis).Several studies have shown that the annual incidence rate of HCC in NAFLD-cirrhosis is greater than 1%,thus surveillance for HCC is *** factors that increase HCC incidence in these patients are male gender,older age,presence of diabetes and any degree of alcohol *** non-cirrhotic patients,the incidence of HCC is much lower and variable,being a great challenge to stratify the risk of HCC in this ***,large epidemiological studies based on the general population have shown that diabetes and obesity significantly increase risk of *** genetic variants may also play a role modifying the HCC occurrence among patients with *** purpose of this review is to discuss the epidemiology,clinical and genetic risk factors that may influence the risk of HCC in NAFLD/mAFLD patients and propose screening strategy to translate into better patient care.

Because of the presence of modified warp factors in metric tensors,we use deformed AdS5 spaces to apply the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate the spectra for even and odd glueballs,scalar and vector mesons,and baryons with different *** the glueball cases,we derive their Regge trajectories and compare them with those related to the pomeron and the *** the scalar and vector mesons,as well as baryons,the determined masses are compatible with the *** particular,for these hadrons we found Regge trajectories compatible with another holographic approach as well as with the hadronic spectroscopy,which present an universal Regge slope of approximately 1.1 GeV^2.

The 2-oxoglutarate and Fe （ll）-dependent dioxygenase （2OGD） superfamily includes oxidative enzymes with an active site con- taining two histidines and （in most cases） one aspartic or glutamic acid residue. This conserved motif is termed the 2-His-1-carboxylate facial triad, chelates iron, and is housed within a double-stranded β-helix fold, also known as the DSBH, jelly-roll, cupin, or Jumonji C fold （martinez and Hausinger, 2015）. The reactions catalyzed by 2OGDs （also called 2ODDs, 2ODQs, and 2OGXs） include but are not limited to demethylation, demethylenation, hydroxytation, halogenation, desaturation, ring cleavage, ring closure, and epimerization （Farrow and Facchini, 2014）.

Is it possible to stop nucleos(t)ide analogue treatment in chronic hepatitis B patients?

Chronic hepatitis B(CHB) remains a challenging global health problem, with nearly one million related deaths per year. Nucleos(t)ide analogue(NA) treatment suppresses viral replication but does not provide complete cure of the hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection. The accepted endpoint for therapy is the loss of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag), but this is hardly ever achieved. Therefore, indefinite treatment is usually required. many different studies have evaluated NA therapy discontinuation after several years of NA treatment and before HBs Ag loss. The results have indicated that the majority of patients can remain off therapy, with some even reaching HBs Ag seroconversion. Fortunately, this strategy has proved to be safe, but it is essential to consider the risk of liver damage and other comorbidities and to ensure aclose follow-up of the candidates before considering this strategy. Unanswered questions remain, namely in which patients could this strategy be effective and what is the optimal time point at which to perform it. To solve this enigma, we should keep in mind that the outcome will ultimately depend on the equilibrium between HBV and the host's immune system. Viral parameters that have been described as good predictors of response in HBe Ag(+) cases, have proven useless in HBe Ag(-) ones. Since antiviral immunity plays an essential role in the control of HBV infection, we sought to review and explain potential immunological biomarkers to predict safe NA discontinuation in both groups.

Effect of treatment failure on the Cag A EPIYA motif in Helicobacter pylori strains from Colombian subjects

AIm To evaluate effect of treatment failure on cag A and vac A genotypes in Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) isolates from *** One hundred and seventy-six participants infected with H. pylori from Colombia were treated during 14 d with the triple-standard therapy. Six weeks later, eradication was evaluated by 13C-Urea breath test. Patients with treatment failure were subjected to endoscopy control; biopsies obtained were used for histopathology and culture. DNA from H. pylori isolates was amplified using primers specific for cag A and vac A genes. The phylogenetic relationships among isolates obtained before and after treatment were established by conglomerate analysis based on random amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD) *** Treatment effectiveness was at 74.6%. Of the par-ticipants with treatment failure, 25 accepted subjected to a second endoscopy. Prevalence of posttreatment infection was 64%(16/25) and 40%(10/25) by histology and culture, respectively. Upon comparing the cag A and vac A genotypes found before and after therapy, multiple cag A genotypes(cag A-positive and cag A-negative) were found before treatment; in contrast, cag A-negative genotypes decreased after treatment. vac A s1m1 genotype was highly prevalent in patients before and after therapy. The 3'cag A region was successfully amplified in 95.5%(21/22) of the isolates obtained before and in 81.8%(18/22) of the isolates obtained after treatment. In the isolates obtained from patients with treatment failure, it was found that 72.7%(16/22) presented alterations in the number of EPIYA motifs, compared to isolates found before *** Unsuccessful treatment limits colonization by lowvirulence strains resulting in partial and selective eradication in mixed infections, and acts on the cag A-positive strains inducing genetic rearrangements in cag A variable region that produces a loss or gain of EPIYA repetitions.

Carbon nanodots:A metal-free,easy-to-synthesize,and benign emitter for light-emitting electrochemical cells

Light-emitting electrochemical cells(LECs)can be fabricated with cost-efficient printing and coating methods,but a current drawback is that the LEC emitter is commonly either a rare-metal complex or an expensive-to-synthesize conjugated ***,we address this issue through the pioneering employment of metal-free and facile-to-synthesize carbon nanodots(CNDs)as the emitter in functional LEC ***-shaped(average diameter=4.4 nm)and hydrophilic CNDs,which exhibit narrow cyan photoluminescence(peak=485 nm,full width at half maximum=30 nm)with a high quantum yield of 77%in dilute ethanol solution,were synthesized with a catalyst-free,one-step solvothermal process using low-cost and benign phloroglucinol as the sole starting *** propensity of the planar CNDs to form emission-quenching aggregates in the solid state was inhibited by the inclusion of a compatible 2,7-bis(diphenylphosphoryl)-9,9’-spirobifluorene host compound,and we demonstrate that such pristine host-guest CND-LECs turn on to a peak luminance of 118 cd·m^(−2)within 5 s during constant current-density driving at 77 mA·cm^(−2).

A fragmentation mechanism and characterization for the first time using Direct Analysis in Real TimeTime of Flight-mass Spectrometry（DART-TOF-mS）of the tetramethylene diperoxide dicarbamide（TmDD）compound were *** mS-spectrum may support other research about devices and detection in real *** mass spectrum of TmDD obtained using DART ionization in the positive-ion detection mode exhibited a strong peak at m/z 254 representing an ammonium adduct（[TmmD·NH4]+）.There was another peak at m/z 237,which represented the protonated molecule（[TmDD·H]+）of *** two peaks corroborated the identity of the *** DART-mS spectra of the TmDD-isotopomer successfully corroborated the respective molecular *** principal fragmentation residues also showed coherence according to the number of isotopically labeled atoms on the TmDD *** contrast with other organic peroxides analyzed by this technique,TmDD exhibited substantial *** theoretical modeling results showed that the fragmentation mechanism of the TmDD ion adduct is strongly dependent of the TmDD ring flexibility and the hydrogen bonding formed between the nitrogen and oxygen atoms and the atmospheric proton.

The detrimental effects of lipopolysaccharideinduced neuroinflammation on adult hippocampal neurogenesis depend on the duration of the pro-inflammatory response

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis is a finely tuned process regulated by extrinsic factors. Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of several pathological conditions underlying dysregulation of neurogenesis. In animal models, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced neuroinflammation leads to a neurogenic decrease mainly associated to the early inflammatory response. However, it is not well understood how the neuroinflammatory response progresses over time and if neurogenesis continues to be diminished during the late neuroinflammatory response. moreover, it is unknown if repeated intermittent administration of LPS along time induces a greater reduction in neurogenesis. We administered one single intraperitoneal injection of LPS or saline or four repeated injections(one per week) of LPS or saline to young-adult mice. A cohort of new cells was labeled with three 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine injections(one per day) 4 days after the last LPS injection. We evaluated systemic and neuroinflammation-associated parameters and compared the effects of the late neuroinflammatory response on neurogenesis induced by each protocol. Our results show that 1) a single LPS injection leads to a late pro-inflammatory response characterized by microglial activation, moderate astrocytic reaction and increased interleukin-6 levels. This response correlates in time with decreased neurogenesis and 2) a repeated intermittent injection of LPS does not elicit a late pro-inflammatory response although activated microglia persists. The latter profile is not accompanied by a continued longterm hippocampal neurogenic decrease. Hereby, we provide evidence that the neuroinflammatory response is a dynamic process that progresses in a milieu-dependent manner and does not necessarily lead to a neurogenic decrease, highlighting the complex interaction between the immune system and neurogenesis.
