Jasmonates(JAs) are phytohormones that finely regulate critical biological processes, including plant development and defense. JASmONATE ZIm-DOmAIN(JAZ) proteins are crucial transcriptional regulators that keep JA-responsive genes in a repressed state. In the presence of JA-Ile, JAZ repressors are ubiquitinated and targeted for degradation by the ubiquitin/proteasome system,allowing the activation of downstream transcription factors and, consequently, the induction of JA-responsive genes. A growing body of evidence has shown that JA signaling is crucial in defending against plant viruses and their insect vectors. Here, we describe the interaction of C2proteins from two tomato-infecting geminiviruses from the genus Begomovirus, tomato yellow leaf curl virus(TYLCV) and tomato yellow curl Sardinia virus(TYLCSaV), with the transcriptional repressor JAZ8 from Arabidopsis thaliana and its closest orthologue in tomato, SlJAZ9. Both JAZ and C2proteins colocalize in the nucleus, forming discrete nuclear speckles. Overexpression of JAZ8did not lead to altered responses to TYLCV infection in Arabidopsis;however, knock-down of JAZ8 favors geminiviral infection. Low levels of JAZ8 likely affect the viral infection specifically,since JAZ8-silenced plants neither display obvious developmental phenotypes nor present differences in their interaction with the viral insect vector. In summary, our results show that the geminivirus-encoded C2 interacts with JAZ8 in the nucleus, and suggest that this plant protein exerts an anti-geminiviral effect.

mechanisms that drive species co-occurrence are poorly documented for intermittent rivers of semiarid regions. Here, we investigated fish community assembly in response to habitat types and physicochemical conditions in intermittent rivers of the lower Okavango Delta, Botswana. Using Joint Species Distribution models, we inferred relative influences of environmental filtering and species interactions on patterns of species co-occurrence. Fishes were surveyed from multiple locations during drought and flood phases of the annual hydrological cycle. Species were classified into trophic guilds to facilitate inference about the types of species interactions that influence community structure. Water physicochemistry (depth, temperature, and dissolved oxygen concentration) was significantly associated with species distributions, whereas habitat type (ephemeral vs. permanent) was not significantly associated with species distribution. Controlling for the influence of environmental covariates resulted in three negative residual correlations, of which two involved non-predatory fishes from different trophic guilds, suggesting a behavioral selection of, or enhanced survival within, habitats with different environmental conditions. There was a negative residual correlation between a predator and a potential prey species, suggesting a role for predation mortality or threat in species segregation. Our results demonstrate that using trophic guilds in conjunction with JSDms can enhance inferences about mechanisms of community assembly.

Incubation assay in trays was performed with two soils with different application histories of glyphosate: no application, and previous application. The soils used were Typic Argiudolls of Pergamino, province of Buenos Aires, and the treatments were: control (no application), and 20, 200 and 2000 mg of active ingredient per kg of soil. Sampling was performed at the beginning (T0) and 45 days after (T45). Catabolic response profiles (CRP), catabolic richness and catabolic uniformity were determined according to the methodology based on measuring the differences in respiration induced by substrate in a short time (4 hours). The substrates used in this study were 20, namely, two amines, 5 aminoacids, two carbohydrates, and 11 carboxylic acids. The objective of this work was to compare soils with different histories of application of glyphosate, measuring its effect on catabolic response profiles, catabolic uniformity and catabolic richness. In this study, no differences were observed between catabolic richness among the different sampling times and doses of glyphosate applied. Glyphosate application affected the structure of the soil microbial communities. At the end of the test, soils with all doses of previous herbicide application showed greater catabolic uniformity than soils without previous application.
