At a time where the incidence of colorectal cancer,a disease predominantly of developed nations,is showing a decline in those 50 years of age and older,data from the West is showing a rising incidence of this cancer in young *** to this has been the 75% increase in rectal cancer incidence in the last four ***,predictive data based on mathematical modelling indicates a 124 percent rise in the incidence of rectal cancer by the year 2030-a statistic that calls for collective global thought and *** predominance of colorectal cancer(cRc) is likely to be in that part of the large bowel distal to the splenic flexure,which makes flexible sigmoidoscopic examination an ideal screening tool,the cost and benefit of mass screening in young people remain *** countries where the incidence of young cRc is as high as 35% to 50%,the available data do not seem to indicate that the disease in young people is one of high red meat consuming nations *** in our understanding of genetic pathways in the aetiology of cRc,chiefly of the MSI,cIN and cIMP pathway,supports the notion that up to 30% of cRc is genetic,and may reflect a familial trait or environmentally induced ***,a number of other germline and somatic mutations,some of which remain unidentified,may play a role in the genesis of this cancer and stand in the way of a clear understanding of cRc in the ***,a proportion of young persons with cRc die early after curative surgery,presumably from aggressive tumour biology,compared with the majority in whom survival after operation will remain unchanged for five years or *** challenge in the future will be to determine,by genetic fingerprinting or otherwise,those at risk of developing cRc and the determinants of survival in those who develop ***,prevention and early detection,just like for those over 50 years with cRc,will determine the outcome of cRc in young *** present,aside f

High resolution manometric findings in patients with chagas' disease esophagopathy

Androgen deficiency is strongly associated with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Inadequate penile arterial blood flow is one of the major causes of ED. The blood flow to the corpus cavernosum is mainly derived from the internal pudendal arteries （IPAs）; however, no study has evaluated the effects of androgen deprivation on IPA＇s function. We hypothesized that castration impairs IPAs reactivity and structure, contributing to ED. In our study, Wistar male rats, 8-week-old, were castrated and studied 30 days after orchiectomy. Functional and structural properties of rat IPAs were determined using wire and pressure myograph systems, respectively. Protein expression was determined by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Plasma testosterone levels were determined using the IMMULITE 1000 Immunoassay System. castrated rats exhibited impaired erectile function, represented by decreased intracavernosal pressure/mean arterial pressure ratio. IPAs from castrated rats exhibited decreased phenylephrine- and electrical field stimulation （EFS）-induced contraction and decreased acetylcholine- and EFS-induced vasodilatation. IPAs from castrated rats exhibited decreased internal diameter, external diameter, thickness of the arterial wall, and cross-sectional area. castration decreased nNOS and α-actin expression and increased collagen expression, p38 （Thr180/ryr182） phosphorylation, as well as caspase 3 cleavage. In conclusion, androgen deficiency is associated with impairment of IPA reactivity and structure and increased apoptosis signaling markers. Our findings suggest that androgen deficiency-induced vascular dysfunction is an event involving hypotrophic vascular remodeling of IPAs.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different modified fats on the body weight, biochemical profile, and biomarkers of hepatic oxidative status in Balb-c mice. The animals were divided into four groups and fed for 75 days with a normolipidic (Control Group, CG) or hiperlipidic diets (40% kcal) containing a commercial interesterified fat (IFG) rich in palmitic acid (39%);a blend of non-interesterified fat (NIFG), with 2-fold less saturated fatty acids at the sn-2 position of triacylglycerols;or a partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (PHFG), source of trans fatty acid (20%) and of linolenic acid (6%). The mice of the IFG and NIFG presented similar results in all evaluated parameters.
