The evolution of sexual imprinting in socially monogamous populations

Sexual imprinting is a common mechanism of mate preference learning. It is thought to influence how traits evolve and in some cases to promote speciation. Recently there has been increasing interest in how sexual imprinting itself evolves. Theoretical work on polygynous mating systems predicts that females will evolve paternal imprinting, which means they learn to prefer phenotypes expressed by their fathers. In nature however, females of some species learn to prefer phenotypes expressed by their mothers instead. We used a dynamical systems model and tools from adaptive dynamics to study how sexual imprinting evolves in species with socially monogamous mating systems. We considered cases in which the target trait for imprinting is under viability selection but is not a reliable signal of paternal investment. Thus, the target trait signals the genetic benefits rather than the parental care benefits of mate choice. When mating is socially monogamous and there is some extra-pair paternity, we show that maternal imprinting can be favored over paternal imprinting. Counterintuitively, females often become choosier when selecting social partners in systems where extra-pair mating is more frequent. That is, females may be more selective when choosing social partners that will sire a smaller percentage of their offspring. Our results offer new testable hypotheses, and advance our understanding of the mechanisms that drive the evolution of mate choice strategies in nature.

Protein-Repairing Methionine Sulfoxide Reductases in Photosynthetic Organisms： Gene Organization, Reduction Mechanisms, and Physiological Roles

Methionine oxidation to methionine sulfoxide （MetSO） is reversed by two types of methionine sulfoxide reducrases （MSRs）, A and B, specific to the S- and R-diastereomers of MetSO, respectively. MSR genes are found in most organisms from bacteria to human. In the current review, we first compare the organization of the MSR gene families in photosynthetic organisms from cyanobacteria to higher plants. The analysis reveals that MSRs constitute complex families in higher plants, bryophytes, and algae compared to cyanobacteria and all non-photosynthetic organisms. We also perform a classification, based on gene number and structure, position of redox-active cysteines and predicted sub-cellular localization. The various catalytic mechanisms and potential physiological electron donors involved in the regeneration of MSR activity are then de- scribed. Data available from higher plants reveal that MSRs fulfill an essential physiological function during environmental constraints through a role in protein repair and in protection against oxidative damage. Taking into consideration the ex- pression patterns of MSR genes in plants and the known roles of these genes in non-photosynthetic cells, other functions of MSRs are discussed during specific developmental stages and ageing in photosynthetic organisms.

Risk for gastric neoplasias in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis:A critical reappraisal

Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is an inflammatory condition characterized by the loss of gastric glandular structures which are replaced by connective tissue (non-metaplastic atrophy) or by glandular structures inappropriate for location (metaplastic atrophy).Epidemiological data suggest that CAG is associated with two different types of tumors:Intestinal-type gastric cancer (GC) and type Ⅰ gastric carcinoid (TⅠGC).The pathophysiological mechanisms which lead to the development of these gastric tumors are *** is accepted that a multistep process initiating from Helicobacter pylori-related chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa progresses to CAG,intestinal metaplasia,dysplasia and,finally,leads to the development of *** TⅠGC is a gastrin-dependent tumor and the chronic elevation of gastrin,which is associated with CAG,stimulates the growth of enterochromaffin-like cells with their hyperplasia leading to the development of TⅠ***,several events occur in the gastric mucosa before the development of intestinal-type GC and/or TⅠGC and these take several *** of CAG incidence from superficial gastritis,its prevalence in different clinical settings and possible risk factors associated with the progression of this condition to gastric neoplasias are important *** editorial intends to provide a brief review of the main studies regarding incidence and prevalence of CAG and risk factors for the development of gastric neoplasias.

Adequacy of Water Use Resources for Drinking and Irrigation, Study Case of Sarh City, Capital of Moyen-Chari Province, CHAD

Our objective is to evaluate adequacy of water for consumption and irrigation. We collected nineteen water samples from 21 to 26, May 2017. Twenty-two physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters were taken into account, electrical conductivity, pH, total hardness, bicarbonate, nitrates, sulfates, chlorides, calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, dissolved oxygen and biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total coliforms, Escherichia Coli, and fecal coliforms. To evaluate water intended for consumption, average values measured parameters were compared to [1] for quality water drinking and we evaluated overall quality of water by means of simplified SEQ-Water grid. Concerning irrigation water, evaluation is based on interpretation of quality parameters of irrigation water that we have calculated;among these parameters we can mention the percentage of sodium, rate of sodium absorption, ratio of magnesium adsorption, residual sodium carbonate. Kelly ratio, Corrosivity ratio and Permeability Index. Results show that surface water is weakly mineralized compared to groundwater and presents a good chemical quality;however, it is slightly altered by presence of organic pollutants. The overall assessment of groundwater quality shows that about 47% of water sampled varies between average quality and very poor quality for consumption. This poor quality is mainly due to presence of nitrates in water, whose content sometimes exceeds the limit authorized by [1]. From a bacteriological point of view, germs of faecal origin such as Total Coliforms, Escherichia Coli and Faecal Coliforms contaminate all groundwater points sampled. They are of poor quality and unfit for human consumption without prior treatment. We also evaluated the quality of water used for irrigation using 6 parameters. Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in atrophic gastritis

Helicobacter pylori(Hp) is a major human pathogen causing chronic, progressive gastric mucosal damage and is linked to gastric atrophy and cancer. Hp-positive individuals constitute the major reservoir for transmission of infection. There is no ideal treatment for Hp. Hp infection is not cured by a single antibiotic, and sometimes, a combined treatment with three or more antibiotics is ineffective. Atrophic gastritis(AG) is a chronic disease whose main features are atrophy and/or intestinal metaplasia of the gastric glands, which arise from long-standing Hp infection. AG is reportedly linked to an increased risk for gastric cancer, particularly when extensive intestinal metaplasia is present. Active or past Hp infection may be detected by conventional methods in about two-thirds of AG patients. By immunoblotting of sera against Hp whole-cell protein lysates, a previous exposure to Hp infection is detected in all AG patients. According to guidelines, AG patients with Hp positivity should receive eradication treatment. The goals of treatment are as follows:(1) Cure of infection, resolution of inflammation and normalization of gastric functions;(2) possible reversal of atrophic and metaplastic changes of the gastric mucosa; and(3) prevention of gastric cancer. An ideal antibiotic regimen for Hp should achieve eradication rates of approximately 90%, and complex multidrug regimens are required to reach this goal. Amongst the factors associated with treatment failure are high bacterial load, high gastric acidity, Hp strain, smoking, low compliance, overweight, and increasing antibiotic resistance. AG, when involving the corporal mucosa, is linked to reduced gastric acid secretion. At a non-acidic intra-gastric p H, the efficacy of the common treatment regimens combining proton pump inhibitors with one or more antibiotics may not be the same as that observed in patients with Hp gastritis in an acid-producing stomach. 研究背景:大剂量马法兰（high-dose melphalan,HDM）是多发性骨髓瘤（multiple myeloma,MM）自体造血干细胞移植（autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,autoHSCT）前的标准预处理方案。尽管患者的反应率和存活率有所提高,但复发率和与方案相关的安全性仍然是一个挑战。目的:本研究主要目的是比较接受白消安、环磷酰胺和依托泊苷（BVC）和HDM作为自体造血干细胞移植预处理方案的MM患者的疗效和预处理毒副作用的差异。方法:对2015年8月至2020年12月期间来自山东省3个主要移植中心（山东大学齐鲁医院、山东省立医院和山东省千佛山医院）的29-65岁（中位年龄52岁）接受自体造血干细胞的78例MM患者进行回顾性分析。37名患者接受BVC预处理方案,而41名患者接受HDM预处理方案。多发性骨髓瘤的诊断使用IMWG标准进行,并使用国际分期系统进行分期。纳入标准包括肌酐低于***/dL、无活动性感染或经肺功能检查确定的严重阻塞性和/或限制性肺疾病（即DLCO＜50%和/或FEV1＜50%和/或FVC＜50%）且心脏射血分数（EF）大于40%的成人（年龄在18-65岁之间）。患者首先接受若干个周期的诱导化疗（通常为3-6个周期）,对疗效达部分缓解以上的患者进行干细胞动员和收集。自体外周血造血干细胞（PBHSCs）用作自体干细胞移植细胞。76例患者接受大剂量环磷酰胺联合粒细胞集落刺激因子（G-CSF）化疗动员采集外周血造血干细胞。2名患者使用plerixafor联合G-CSF稳态动员采集干细胞。CD34+细胞平均采集量为4.61 × 106/kg。CD34+细胞最小采集量为2×1 06个/kg。37名MM患者接受BVC预处理方案:白消安在-7天、-6天和-5天以0.8mg/kg/天静脉注射。依托泊苷在-5天和-4天以400mg/m2/天静脉给药,环磷酰胺在-3天和-2天以50mg/m2/天静脉内给药。41名MM患者接受HDM预处理方案:马法兰总剂量为200mg/m2,分成-3天和-2天静脉注射,然后进行自身HSCT。预处理方案对待评估的移植受者中发生的毒副作用毒性的影响如下:a.方案相关的毒性;包括血液学毒性和非血液学毒性。b.中性粒细胞和血小板植入的时间。c.住院时间。要分析的结果包括:a.移植后疾病的反应状态。b.移植1年时复发率。c.移植后100天内的移植相关死亡率。d.移植 1 年时无进展生存期（progression-free survival,PFS）。e.移植1年时的总生存期（overall survival,OS）。使用SPSS版本26对两组之间的数据进行分析和比较。描述性统计用于报告结果,包括人口统计学,疾病相关因素和移植相关因素。使用Kaplan-Meier方法估计PFS和OS的概率,并使用Log-rank检验对组进行比较。使用Cox比例风险回归模型对OS,PFS和累积复发发生率进行多变量分析,该模型用于估计与HDM相比BVC的风险比（HR）。结果:本研究共纳入MM患者78例,其中37名患者在接受BVC 预处理方案后接受autoHSCT,而41名患者在接受HDM预处理方案后接受autoHSCT。两组的总缓解率（ORR）、PFS、OS和复发率在统计学上相似。BVC组的中位随访时间为540天,HDM组为436天。HDM组肺毒性发生率显著增加（BVC为36.6%对5.4%,P=0.002）。BVC组患者的住院时间明显长于HDM组（中位数20天,范围:BVC为18-27;与中位18天范围:HDM为13-27,P＜0.0001）。BVC组（7天,范围:4-12）中性粒细胞减少的中位持续时间明显长于HDM组(6天,范围:（2-12）;P=0.002。有两例TRM病例,每组一例。在多变量亚组分析中,BVC调理在PFS、OS和复发方面与HDM调理有统计学相似。但是,低风险疾病分期显示可以预测PFS和复发的累积发生率,ISSⅠ和ISSⅡ疾病阶段的患者PFS明显更长;（ISS Ⅰ:HR=0.186,P=0.006,ISS Ⅱ:HR=0.240,P=0.022）;并延迟复发时间;（ISSⅠ:HR=0.220,P=0.013,ISS Ⅱ:HR=0.262,P=0.036）。β-2 微球蛋白预测 OS,β-2微球蛋白水平升高显示显著恶化OS（HR=1.356,P=0.041）。年龄,性别,MM亚型,KPS,移植前使用的化疗方案/周期数或移植时的疾病状况与两组的PFS,OS或复发率无关。结论:尽管两种方案的反应率和生存率似乎相似,但与HDM方案相比,BVC方案在非血液学毒性（肺毒性）方面似乎更优越,但在血液学毒性（血细胞减少）方面较差。本研究显示BV
