黏附性颗粒团聚现象在自然界和工业界普遍存在,扰动流场中黏附性颗粒间的碰撞、摩擦和吸附等动力学行为,导致团聚体形态不断演化,准确预测黏附性颗粒团聚体的粒径分布是调控颗粒团聚过程的重要前提。本文通过二维泰勒格林涡场中黏附性颗粒团聚的数值模拟研究,明确了利用Monte Carlo模型预测团聚体粒径分布的可行性及其适用范围,发现当黏附性颗粒间内聚数小于3.5×10^(−4)时,Monte Carlo模型可较好的预测团聚体粒径分布,且相对误差小于±30%;而当内聚数大于3.5×10^(−4)后,Monte Carlo模型不再适用。

The role that the immune system plays after injury of the peripheral nervous system is still not completely ***,a natural killer cell-and T-lymphocyte-derived enzyme that mediates cytotoxicity,plays important roles in autoimmune diseases,infections and central nervous system trauma,such as spinal cord *** dissect the roles of this single component of the immune response to injury,we tested regeneration after femoral nerve injury in perforin-deficient(Pfp^(-/-))and wild-type control *** frame motion analysis showed better motor recovery in Pfp^(-/-)mice compared with control mice at 4 and 8 weeks after *** tracing of the motoneuron axons regrown into the motor nerve branch demonstrated more correctly projecting motoneurons in the spinal cord of Pfp^(-/-)mice compared with *** of regrown axons measured by g-ratio was more extensive in Pfp^(-/-)than in wild-type mice in the motor branch of the femoral ***^(-/-)mice displayed more cholinergic synaptic terminals around cell bodies of spinal motoneurons after injury than the injured *** histologically analyzed lymphocyte infiltration 10 days after surgery and found that in Pfp^(-/-)mice the number of lymphocytes in the regenerating nerves was lower than in wild-types,suggesting a closed blood-nerve barrier in Pfp^(-/-)*** conclude that perforin restricts motor recovery after femoral nerve injury owing to decreased survival of motoneurons and reduced myelination.

The aim of this article is to give an overview of the tasks and the function of the Supreme Court of Justice in interaction with the other two ＂Highest Courts＇＂ of the Republic of Austria on the one hand, and the European Court of Human Rights as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union on the other hand. For this purpose introductory remarks will examine the Austrian understanding of the judiciary as a state power and judicial independence. The closing part of the article will particularly look into the role of the Supreme Court as highest instance in criminal matters.

Effective Seed Distribution Pattern of an Upward Shift Species in Alpine Tundra of Changbai Mountains

The vegetation of alpine tundra in the Changbai Mountains has experienced great changes in recent decades. Narrowleaf small reed(Deyeuxia angustifolia), a perennial herb from the birch forest zone had crossed the tree line and invaded into the alpine tundra zone. To reveal the driven mechanism of D. angustifolia invasion, there is an urgent need to figure out the effective seed distribution pattern, which could tell us where the potential risk regions are and help us to interpret the invasion process. In this study, we focus on the locations of the seeds in the soil layer and mean to characterize the effective seed distribution pattern of D. angustifolia. The relationship between the environmental variables and the effective seed distribution pattern was also assessed by redundancy analysis. Results showed that seeds of D. angustifolia spread in the alpine tundra with a considerable number(mean value of 322 per m2). They were mainly distributed in the low elevation areas with no significant differences in different slope positions. Effective seed number(ESN) occurrences of D. angustifolia were different in various plant communities. Plant communities with lower canopy cover tended to have more seeds of D. angustifolia. Our research indicated reliable quantitative information on the extent to which habitats are susceptible to invasion.

Blood-based mieroRNA （miRNA） signatures as biomarkers have been reported for various pathologies, including cancer, neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and also infections. The regulatory mechanism behind respective miRNA patterns is only partially understood. Moreover, ＂preserved＂ miRNAs, i.e., miRNAs that are not dysregulated in any disease, and their biological impact have been explored to a very limited extent. We set out to systematically determine their role in regulatory networks by defining groups of highly-dysregulated miRNAs that contribute to a disease signature as opposed to preserved housekeeping miRNAs. We further determined preferential targets and pathways of both dysregulated and preserved miRNAs by computing multi-layer networks, which were compared between housekeeping and dysregulated miRNAs. Of 848 miRNAs examined across 1049 blood samples, 8 potential housekeepers showed very limited expression variations, while 20 miRNAs showed highly-dysregulated expression throughout the investigated blood samples. Our approach provides important insights into miRNAs and their role in regulatory networks. The methodology can be applied to systematically investigate the differences in target genes and pathways of arbitrary miRNA sets.

In many research disciplines, hypothesis tests are applied to evaluate whether findings are statistically significant or could be explained by chance. The Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney （WMW） test is among the most popular hypothesis tests in medicine and life science to analyze if two groups of samples are equally distributed. This nonparametric statistical homogeneity test is commonly applied in molecular diagnosis. Generally, the solution of the WMW test takes a high combinatorial effort for large sample cohorts containing a significant number of ties. Hence, P value is frequently approximated by a normal distribution. We developed EDISON-WMW, a new approach to calcu- late the exact permutation of the two-tailed unpaired WMW test without any corrections required and allowing for ties. The method relies on dynamic programing to solve the combinatorial problem of the WMW test efficiently. Beyond a straightforward implementation of the algorithm, we pre- sented different optimization strategies and developed a parallel solution. Using our program, the exact P value for large cohorts containing more than 1000 samples with ties can be calculated within minutes. We demonstrate the performance of this novel approach on randomly-generated data, benchmark it against 13 other commonly-applied approaches and moreover evaluate molec- ular biomarkers for lung carcinoma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD）. We foundthat approximated P values were generally higher than the exact solution provided by EDISON- WMW. Importantly, the algorithm can also be applied to high-throughput omics datasets, where hundreds or thousands of features are included. The composition of the gut microbiota is linked to multiple diseases,including Parkinson’s disease(PD).Abundance of bacteria producing short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs)and fecal SCFA concentrations are reduced in *** exert various beneficial functions in *** the interventional,monocentric,open-label clinical trial “Effects of Resistant Starch on Bowel Habits,Short Chain Fatty Acids and Gut Microbiota in Parkinson’s Disease”(RESISTA-PD;ID:NCT02784145),we aimed at altering fecal SCFAs by an 8-week prebiotic intervention with resistant starch(RS).We enrolled 87 subjects in three study-arms:32 PD patients received RS(PD+RS),30 control subjects received RS,and 25 PD patients received solely dietary *** performed paired-end 100 bp length metagenomic sequencing of fecal samples using the BGISEQ platform at an average of 9.9 *** was *** the PD+RS group,fecal butyrate concentrations increased significantly,and fecal calprotectin concentrations dropped significantly after 8 weeks of RS ***,we observed a reduction in non-motor symptom load in the PD+RS *** reference-based analysis of metagenomes highlighted stable alpha-diversity and beta-diversity across the three groups,including bacteria producing ***-free analysis suggested punctual,yet pronounced differences in the metagenomic signature in the PD+RS ***-PD highlights that a prebiotic treatment with RS is safe and well-tolerated in *** stable alpha-diversity and beta-diversity alongside altered fecal butyrate and calprotectin concentrations call for long-term studies,also investigating whether RS is able to modify the clinical course of PD.

High-quality DNA extraction is a crucial step in metagenomic *** by different isolation kits impairs the comparison across datasets.A trending topic is,however,the analysis of multiple metagenomes from the same patients to draw a holistic picture of microbiota associated with *** thus collected bile,stool,saliva,plaque,sputum,and conjunctival swab samples and performed DNA extraction with three commercial *** each combination of the specimen type and DNA extraction kit,20-gigabase(Gb)metagenomic data were generated using short-read *** profiles of the specimen types showed close proximity to each other,we observed notable differences in the alpha diversity and composition of the microbiota depending on the DNA extraction *** kit outperformed all selected kits on every *** reached consistently good results using the Qiagen QiAamp DNA Microbiome *** on the specimen,our data indicate that over 10 Gb of sequencing data are required to achieve sufficient resolution,but DNA-based identification is superior to identification by mass ***,longread nanopore sequencing confirmed the results(correlation coefficient>0.98).Our results thus suggest using a strategy with only one kit for studies aiming for a direct comparison of multiple microbiotas from the same patients.
