Background Natural and synthetic plant growth regulators are essential for plant health,likewise these regulators also play a role in increasing organic production productivity and improving quality and yield *** the present study,we have evaluated the effects of foliar applied plant growth regulators,i.e.,moringa leaf extract(MLE)and mepiquat chloride(MC)alone and in combination MC and MLE on the conventional cotton cultivar(CIM 573)and transgenic one(CIM 598).The growth regulators were applied at the start of bloom,45 and 90 days after *** The application of MC and MLE at 90 days after blooming significantly improved the relative growth rate,net assimilation rate,the number of bolls per plant,and seed cotton ***,the combined application of MLE and MC at 90 days after blooming significantly boosted the nitrogen uptake in locules,as well as the phosphorus and potassium uptake in the leaves of both cotton *** application of MLE alone has considerably improved the nitrogen uptake in leaves,and phosphorus and potassium contents in locules of Bt and conventional cotton ***,Bt cotton treated with MLE at 90 days after blooming produced significantly higher ginning out turn and oil *** in combination(MLE+MC)at 90 days after blooming produced considerably higher micronaire value,fiber strength,and staple length in conventional *** The natural growth enhancer,MLE is a rich source of minerals and zeatin,improving the nutrient absorption and quality of cotton fiber in both conventional and Bt cotton cultivars.

Drought poses a significant challenge,restricting the productivity of medicinal and aromatic *** strain induced by drought can impede vital processes like respiration and photosynthesis,affecting various aspects of plants’growth and *** response to this adversity,medicinal plants employ mechanisms such as morphological and structural adjustments,modulation of drought-resistant genes,and augmented synthesis of secondary metabolites and osmotic regulatory substances to alleviate the *** water scarcity can lead to leaf wilting and may ultimately result in plant *** cultivation and management of medicinal plants under stress conditions often differ from those of other *** is because the main goal with medicinal plants is not only to increase the yield of the above-ground parts but also to enhance the production of active ingredients such as essential *** elucidate these mechanisms of drought resistance in medicinal and aromatic plants,the current review provides a summary of recent literature encompassing studies on the morphology,physiology,and biochemistry of medicinal and aromatic plants under drought conditions.

How Music Intervention Lowered Participants’ Morning Cortisol—Qualitative Case Stories

Non-pharmacological interventions for improved home care of persons with dementia and their family caregiver are and will be increasingly important for society. A music intervention study was performed on persons with persons with dementia and family caregiver. The persons with dementia and family caregiver were instructed to choose a daily routine for joint listening to recorded music. They selected the music they were interested in from a menu. The intervention period lasted for two months. Both persons with dementia and family caregiver provided daily saliva samples for the assessment of stress-related steroid hormones. In previous reports we have reported that the morning cortisol levels decreased significantly among the family caregiver when the intervention group was compared to a control group. In the present study we report narratives from four dyads, two of whom with beneficial effects of the music intervention, one dyad with no clear beneficial effects and one dyad with mixed results. The narratives illustrate the strong cohesive effect that the joint music listening could have, leading to improved social functioning paralleled by decreased morning cortisol levels particularly in the family caregiver. The narratives also illustrate reasons for failed effects.

An Influence Statistic For Linear Measurement Error Models

Detection of multiple outliers or subset of influential points has been rarely considered in the linear measurement error models. In this paper a new influence statistic for one or a set of observations is generalized and characterized based on the corrected likelihood in the linear measurement error models. This influence statistic can be expressed in terms of the residuals and the leverages of linear measurement error regression. Unlike Cook＇s statistic, this new measure of influence has asymptotically normal distribution and is able to detect a subset of high leverage outliers which is not identified by Cook＇s statistic. As an illustrative example, simulation studies and a real data set are analysed.

Effects of Welding and rotational speeds on the Microstructure and Hardness of Friction Stir Welded Single-Phase Brass

This study focuses on the effects of rotational and welding speeds on the microstructure and hardness of joints in friction stir welded single-phase brass. Welds were achieved under low heat input conditions at rotational and welding speeds of 400-800 r/min and 100-300 mm/min, respectively. In order to characterize the obtained welds, optical microscopy and Vickers hardness measurements were taken on the weld cross sections. According to the obtained results, increasing the welding speed and/or decreasing the rotational speed caused the grain size of the stir zone to decrease and, hence, improved the average hardness of this region. These results are discussed with respect to the interplay between the welding parameters and the peak temperature in the weld thermal cycle.

Asperity-based modification on theory of contact mechanics and rubber friction for self-affine fractal surfaces

Modeling the real contact area plays a key role in every tribological process,such as friction,adhesion,and *** between two solids does not necessarily occur everywhere within the apparent contact *** the multiscale nature of roughness,Persson proposed a theory of contact mechanics for a soft and smooth solid in contact with a rigid rough *** this theory,he assumed that the vertical displacement on the soft surface could be approximated by the height profile of the substrate *** this assumption gives an accurate pressure distribution at the interface for complete contact,when no gap exists between two surfaces,it results in an overestimation of elastic energy stored in the material for partial contact,which typically occurs in many practical *** issue was later addressed by Persson by including a correction factor obtained from the comparison of the theoretical results with molecular dynamics *** paper proposes a different approach to correct the overestimation of vertical displacement in Persson’s contact theory for rough surfaces with self-affine fractal *** results are compared with the correction factor proposed by *** main advantage of the proposed method is that it uses physical parameters such as the surface roughness characteristics,material properties,sliding velocity,and normal load to correct the *** method is also implemented in the theory of rubber *** results of the corrected friction model are compared with *** results confirm that the modified model predicts the friction coefficient as a function of sliding velocity more accurately than the original model.

The influence of welding speed on the joint microstructures of an austenitic stainless steel(ASS)produced by friction stir welding(FSW)was *** FSW process was conducted using a rotational speed of 400 r/min and welding speeds of 50 and 150 mm/*** study was carried out using electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD)technique in different regions of the resultant stir zones(SZs).The results show that the texture of the advancing side(AS)was mainly composed of C{001}〈110〉and cube{001}〈100〉texture components along with partial B/B{112}〈110〉*** from the AS toward the center and the retreating side(RS),the cube texture component disappeared and the A;/A*{111}(112)component developed and predominated the other *** welding speed greatly affected and decreased the intensity of the textures in the resultant ***,higher welding speed(lower heat input)resulted in lower frequency of cube texture in the AS.

Synthesis of 4-（4-Methylsulfonylphenyl）-3-phenyl-2（3H）-thiazole Thione Derivatives as New Potential COX-2 Inhibitors

Synthesis of novel 4-（4-methylsulfonylphenyl）-3-phenyl-2（3H）-thiazole thione derivatives with functionalized diarylheterocycle pharmacophore as potential COX-2 inhibitors was described. The title compounds were synthesized by cyclocondensation of corresponding dithiocarbamate and 2-bromo-1-（4-methylsulfonylphenyl）ethanone, followed by dehydration with H2SO4. All of the target compounds were characterized by ^1H NMR, IR and mass spectral data.
