High-resolution 3D seismic data analysis was integrated with a calibrated well and biostratigraphy data to present the first overview of a buried Pleistocene canyon system on the upper slope of the eastern Niger Delta,the Galabor *** maps of specific horizons allow documenting the changing morphologies and infill lithologies of two main branches of the canyon through two stages of activity separated by a reference horizon dated at 0.99 Ma based on well *** the upper slope,growth faults dissect the canyon heads,the catchment of which encroaches a network of valleys incised on the outer *** canyon fill is composed of muddy channels and mass-transport deposits,largely derived from the collapse of canyon walls and sand-rich bodies forming a tract sourced by shelf-edge deltas at the outlet of the incised ***-density turbiditic processes likely control the distribution of sand bodies along the canyon,ranging from tributary fans on the upper slope to 6 km-wide meander belts on the middle *** sandy deposits accumulate in minibasins formed along the canyon path,downstream of the subsiding hanging wall of the growth faults and upstream of shale ridges that damp the flow in the *** results show that canyons can be major targets for sand reservoir exploration on the upper slope of large muddy deltas.

The production of ■baryons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV is measured in the transverse-momentum range 4eV/c and the rapidity range2.0ed in this measurement correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7fb^-1,recorded by the LHCb experiment during *** ratio of the ■ production cross-section times the branching fraction of the■→∧^+cK^-π^+ π^+decay relative to the prompt ∧^+c production cross-section is found to be(2.22±0.27±0.29)×10^-4,assuming the central value of the measured lifetime,where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Computer Assisted Learning for Improving Cattle Palpation Skills of Veterinary Students

This study investigated the effect of a computer assisted learning (CAL) tool on the development of skills in palpation of the reproductive tract of the cow per rectum (rectal palpation) by fourth-year students in a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree program. A secondary aim was to determine if animal welfare could be improved by the CAL intervention. The CAL tool was developed to provide: vivid, three-dimensional interactive graphics of the relevant anatomy and skills;a comprehensive glossary of terminology used in association with the skills;and formative assessment tasks. Prior to its introduction to the course, industry stakeholders assessed the CAL tool graphics as an accurate depiction of the procedures. Two consecutive cohorts of students were surveyed prior to (n = 91) and after the CAL intervention (n = 111). Responses to student surveys suggested that post-intervention skills were learned at approximately the same rate as pre-intervention. However, tutor surveys indicated that students in the pre-intervention group may have had insufficient understanding for accurate self-assessment compared to post-intervention students. According to tutors, substantially more students in the post-intervention group gained practical skills at an improved rate and to a higher level of competency. Both student and tutor surveys indicated that there was a minimal discomfort to animals in these practical classes. From an animal welfare point-of-view, it was concluded that the intervention would not result in a reduction in the number of animals required during practical sessions. However, due to the preparation and reinforcement provided by the CAL tool, animals were used more efficiently by students after the intervention, resulting in the attainment of a higher level of skill. Knowledge gained from this study may be relevant to other disciplines requiring students to develop practical skills associated with animals or humans.

The urea cycle is the final pathway for nitrogen metabolism. Urea cycle disorders(UCDs) include a variety of genetic defects, which lead to inefficient urea synthesis. elevated blood ammonium level is usually dominant in the clinical pattern and the primary manifestations affect the central nervous system. Herein, we report the case of a 17-year-old girl who was diagnosed with UCD at the age of 3. Despite a controlled diet, she was hospitalized several times for acute attacks with recurrent life risk. She came to our attention for a hyperammonemic episode. We proposed an orthotopic liver transplant(OLT) as a treatment; the patient and her family were in complete agreement. On February 28, 2007, she successfully received a transplant. Following the surgery, she has remained well, and she is currently leading a normal life. Usually for UCDs diet plays the primary therapeutic role, while OLT is often considered as a last resort. Our case report and the recent literature data on the quality of life and prognosis of traditionally treated patients vs OLT patients, support OLT as a primary intervention to prevent life-threatening acute episodes and chronic mental impairment.

First evidence of a structure in the J/ψΛinvariant mass distribution is obtained from an amplitude analysis of■b^(-)J/ψΛK^(-)*** observed structure is consistent with being due to a charmonium pentaquark with strangeness with a significance of 3.1r including systematic uncertainties and lookelsewhere *** mass and width are determined to be 4458:8±2:9t4:7-1:1 MeV and 17:3±6:5t8:0-5:7 MeV,respectively,where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and *** structure is also consistent with being due to two *** addition,the narrow excited■^(-)states,N■(1690)and■(1820),are seen for the first time in a■b^(-)decay,and their masses and widths are measured with improved *** analysis is performed using pp collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb^(-1),collected with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7,8 and 13 TeV.

AIM: To assess the usefulness of the balloon assisted enteroscopy in preventing surgical intervention in pa-tients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) having a small bowel large polyps. MeTHODS: Seven consecutive asymptomatic pts(age 15-38 years) with PJS have been collected; six under-went polypectomy using single balloon enteroscopy(Olympus SIF Q180) with antegrade approach using push and pull technique. SBe system consists of the SIF-Q180 enteroscope, an overtube balloon control unit(OBCU Olympus Balloon Control Unit) and a dispos-able silicone splinting tube with balloon(ST-SB1). All procedures were performed under general anesthesia. Previously all pts received wireless capsule endos-copy(WCe). Prophylactic polypectomy was reservedmainly in pts who had polyps > 15 mm in diameter. The balloon is inflated and deflated by a balloon control unit with a safety pressure setting range from-6.0 kPa to +5.4 kPa. Informed consent has been obtained from pts or parents for each ***: Six pts underwent polypectomy of small bowel polyps; in 5 pts a large polyp > 15 mm(range 20-50 mm in diameter) was resected; in 1 patient with WCe negative, SBe was performed for previous surgi-cal resection of gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In 2 pts endoscopic clips were placed due to a polypectomy. No surgical complication have been reported. SBe with resection of small bowel large polyps in PJS pts was useful to avoid gastrointestinal bleeding and emergency laparotomy due to intestinal intussuscep-tions. No gastrointestinal tumors were found in sub-sequent enteroscopic surveillance in all seven pts. In order surveillance, all pts received WCe, upper en-doscopy, ileocolonoscopy every 2 years. No pts had extraintestinal malignant lesions. SBe was performed when WCe was positive for significant polyps(> 15 mm).CONCLUSION: The effective of prophylactic polyp-ectomy of small bowel large polyps(> 15 mm) could be the first line treatment for conservative approach in management of PJS

Flueggea virosa (Roxb. ex Willd.) Royle is a plant with several traditional uses in tropical countries. To study the potential usefulness, extracts from stem barks and leaves of F. virosa were obtained with different solvents. The phytochemical composition was assessed using LC-MS and NMR. Triterpenes, as oleanolic (0.05-88.09 mg/g extract), and ursolic (0.03-94.36 mg/g extract) acids were determined. In addition, ellagic and gallic acid derivatives were present in large concentrations in some of the extracts. Antioxidant (radical scavenging, reduction ability, and metal chelating) and enzyme inhibitory (cholinesterase, tyrosinase, amylase, and glucosidase) effects were assessed by in vitro chemical assays. The methanol extracts and infusions from both parts show higher antioxidant ability when compared with ethyl acetate extracts, and the antioxidant capacity was correlated with the total phenolic contents of the tested extracts. The extracts demonstrate enzyme inhibitory abilities on AChe and BChe, and multivariate approaches allowed for correlating the activities with the presence of triterpenoids (R > 0.8). Furthermore, molecular docking was used to get insights into the interactions between the triterpenoids and the tested enzymes. Together, these results indicate that F. virosa represents a significant source of naturally-occurring bioactive compounds that can be exploited as a new ingredient for the development of novel functional products with promising biological properties.

Objective:To test the hypothesis that oxidative stress signaling contributes to post-transplant endothelial dysfunction and hypertension in pediatric post-transplant hypertension. Study design:This study evaluated in 16 pediatric renal transplant patients,divided in two groups based on the presence of post transplant hypertension,the oxidative stress status measuring the gene expression (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction)of two major oxidative stress-related proteins,p22phox and heme oxygenase-1(HO-1). Total plasma antioxidant power(eLISA)was also evaluated. Results:Mononuclear cell p22phoxgene expression was higher in hypertensive patients compared with the normotensive group (0.91 ±0.06 vs 0.79 ±0.08 densitometric units,P ereas HO-1 RNA production and total plasma antioxidant power were higher in the normotensive group (0.38 ±0.04 vs 0.20 ±0.11 d.u.,P espectively).Conclusions:Oxidative stress is associated with post-transplant hypertension in hypertensive pediatric kidney-transplant patients,who therefore are at risk of oxidative stress-induced organ damage. They might benefit from treatments addressing not only hypertension but also oxidant-related complications.

婴儿纤维性错构瘤:一项意大利多中心试验

Background: Fibrous hamartoma (FH) of infancy is a benign mesenchymal tumor, occurring as a superficial mass. Complete excision is curative. Objective and Methods: The clinical features and treatment results of 18 children with FH are described. Results: Local excision was the most common procedure. Surgery was radical in 10 patients, with microscopic residual disease in 6; all of them are alive with no evidence of disease 2 to 49 months after diagnosis. One patient, treated with a local reexcision for macroscopic residual disease (and chemotherapy for a synchronous desmoid fibromatosis) is well 83 months after diagnosis; the last patient, with a lesion of the labia majora, only underwent biopsy and is doing well, awaiting plastic surgery. Limitations: The results did not reach statistical significance due to difficulties in collecting cases. Conclusions: FH should be treated by complete excision; in our experience a nonradical excision was also able to achieve the cure. An aggressive approach should be avoided, as the overall prognosis is excellent.
