Background: Thyroid dise.se. are.am.ng the.le.ding e.docrine.disorde.s affe.ting a large.proportion of pe.ple.worldwide.and show ge.graphical variation in incide.ce.and histopathological patte.n re.ate. to age. se., die.ary and e.vironm.0}tal factors. Histopathological patte.ns of surgically tre.te. thyroid dise.se. play an im.ortant role.in e.rly diagnosis and m.nage.e.t of the.e.dise.se.. The.e.is, howe.e., lim.te. publishe. data re.arding histopathological re.orts on thyroid dise.se.in our local se.ting. This study aim.0} to de.e.m.ne.the.histopathological patte.ns and highlight e.rly postope.ative.com.lications am.ng patie.ts with surgically tre.te. thyroid dise.se. at Bugando m.0}ical Ce.tre.(Bm.). m.0}hods: This was a longitudinal study involving all patie.ts with surgically tre.te. thyroid dise.se. se.n at Bm. ove. a pe.iod of 6 m.nths from.Octobe. 2019 to m.rch 2020. Re.ults: A total of 84 patie.ts we.e.studie.. Fe.ale. outnum.e.e. m.le. by a fe.ale.to m.le.ratio of 11:1. The.m.0}ian age.of patie.ts was 44 [IQR, 35 - 54] ye.rs old, the.younge.t was 14 ye.rs old and the.olde.t was 76 ye.rs old. Colloid goite. was the.m.st com.on non-ne.plastic le.ion accounting for 34 (44.7%) patie.ts. Am.ng the.ne.plastic le.ions, follicular ade.om. was the.m.st com.only e.counte.e. be.ign pathologie. (n = 16;21.1%), while.papillary carcinom. was the.m.st com.only e.counte.e. m.lignancy (n = 4;50%). Following thyroide.tom., 12 (14.3%) patie.ts de.e.ope. e.rly com.lications, of which he.orrhage.som.0}im.0} re.uiring blood transfusion was the.le.ding intra/postope.ative.com.lications accounting for 4 (33.3%) patie.ts. Othe. com.lications include.te.porary re.urre.t larynge.l ne.ve.palsy 2 (16.7%), surgical site.infe.tion 2 (16.7%) and trache.m.lacia, bronchospasm. thyroid absce.s and re.piratory obstruction in 1 (8.3%) patie.t e.ch, re.pe.tive.y.
