Acutely,pain serves to protect us from potentially harmful stimuli,however damage to the somatosensory system can cause maladaptive changes in neurons leading to chronic *** acute pain is fairly well controlled,chronic pain remains difficult to *** pain is primarily a neuropathic condition,but studies examining the mechanisms underlying chronic pain are now looking beyond afferent nerve lesions and exploring new receptor targets,immune cells,and the role of the autonomic nervous system in contributing chronic pain *** studies outlined in this review reveal how chronic pain is not only confined to alterations in the nervous system and presents findings on new treatment targets and for this debilitating disease.

Background:Assessment and quantification of skeletal muscle within the aging population is vital for diagnosis,treatment,and injury/disease *** clinical availability of assessing muscle quality through diagnostic ultrasound presents an opportunity to be utilized as a screening tool for function-limiting ***,relationships between muscle echogenicity and clinical functional assessments require authoritative ***,we aimed to(a) synthesize the literature to assess the relationships between skeletal muscle echogenicity and physical function in older adults(≥60 years),(b) perform pooled analyses of relationships between skeletal muscle echogenicity and physical function,and(c) perform sub-analyses to determine between-muscle ***:CINAHL,Embase,MEDLINE,pubMed,and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to identify articles relating skeletal muscle echogenicity to physical function in older ***-of-bias assessments were conducted along with funnel plot ***-analyses with and without sub-analyses for individual muscles were performed utilizing Fisher's Z transformation for the most common measures of physical ***'s Z was back-transformed to pearson's r for ***:Fifty-one articles(n=5095,female=~2759,male=~2301,72.5± 5.8 years,mean±SD(1 study did not provide sex descriptors))were extracted for review,with previously unpublished data obtained from the authors of 13 *** rectus femoris(n=34) and isometric knee extension strength(n=22) were the most accessed muscle and physical qualities,*** relationship between quadriceps echogenicity and knee extensor strength was moderate(n=2924,r=-0.36(95% confidence interval:-0.38 to-0.32),p p strength,walking speed,sit-to-stand,timed up-and-go) resulting in slightly weaker correlations(r:-0.34 to-0.23,all p predicti

Many species exhibit color polymorphisms which have distinct physiological and behavioral ***,the consistency of morph trait covariation patterns across species,time,and ecological contexts remains *** trait covariation is especially relevant in the context of invasion biology and urban ***,physiological traits pertaining to energy maintenance are crucial to fitness,given their immediate ties to individual reproduction,growth,and population *** investigated the physiological traits of podarcis muralis,a versatile color polymorphic species that thrives in urban environments(including invasive populations in Ohio,USA).We measured five physiological traits(plasma corticosterone and triglycerides,hematocrit,body condition,and field body temperature),which compose an integrated multivariate *** then tested variation among co-occurring color morphs in the context of establishment in an urban *** found that the traits describing physiological status and strategy shifted across the active season in a morph-dependent manner—the white and yellow morphs exhibited clearly different multivariate physiological phenotypes,characterized primarily by differences in plasma *** suggests that morphs have different strategies in physiological regulation,the flexibility of which is crucial to urban *** white-yellow morph exhibited an intermediate phenotype,suggesting an intermediary energy maintenance *** morphs also exhibited distinct phenotypes,but the low prevalence of this morph in our study populations precludes clear *** work provides insight into how differences among stable polymorphisms exist across axes of the phenotype and how this variation may aid in establishment within novel environments.

The synthesis of a promising brain imaging agent 4-[F-18]fluoro-4-deoxy-N-acetyl-1,3,6-tri-O-acetylglucosamine, 2, was successfully accomplished from commercially available N-acetyl glucosamine in 5 steps. The non-decay corrected radiochemical yield and purity were found to be 31% ± 4% (n = 3) and >98% respectively. The total reaction time for radio labelling step was 50 min.

肥大细胞被激活时可释放炎性细胞因子和趋化因子参与天然免疫细胞募集,作为神经系统和免疫系统联系的桥梁,肥大细胞的空间优势使其能够靠近外周神经末梢附近,在感觉神经纤维激活后率先做出反应。该研究发现肥大细胞特异性受体Mrgprb2通过在损伤部位招募天然免疫细胞,参与了炎症性机械痛和热痛觉过敏;肥大细胞可通过神经肽p物质激活Mrgprb2从而释放趋化因子,促使免疫细胞迁移;p物质激活人类肥大细胞上的MRGpRX2(Mrgprb2的同源基因)后也能释放多种促炎细胞因子和趋化因子;p物质介导的炎症反应独立于神经激肽-1受体(NK-1R)。结果表明Mrgprb2/X2参与了神经免疫调节,是治疗炎性痛的潜在靶点。

Herpes simplex viruses （HSV） are human pathogens responsible for a variety of diseases, including localized mucocutaneous lesions, encephalitis, and disseminated diseases. HSV infection leads to rapid induction of innate immune responses. A critical part of this host response is the type I IFN system including the induction of type I IFNs, IFN-mediated signaling and amplification of IFN response. This provides the host with immediate countermeasure during acute infection to limit initial viral replication and to facilitate an appropriate adaptive immune response. However, HSV has devised multiple strategies to evade and interfere with innate immunity This review will focus on the induction of type I IFN response by HSV during acute infection and current knowledge of mechanisms by which HSV interferes with this induction process.

Transparent conductive electrodes play a significant role in the fabrication and development of optoelectronic devices. As next generation optoelectronic devices tend towards mobile and wearable devices, the added attribute of flexibility or stretchability for these electrodes becomes increasingly important. However, mechanical requirements aside, transparent conductive electrodes must still retain high transparency and conductivity, with the metrics for these parameters being compared to the standard, indium tin oxide. In the search to replace indium tin oxide, two materials that have risen to the forefront are carbon nanotubes and silver nanowires due to their high transparency, conductivity, mechanical compliance, and ease of fabrication. This review highlights recent innovations made by our group in electrodes utilizing carbon nanotubes and silver nanowires, in addition to the use of these electrodes in discrete devices and integrated systems.

Males and females have conflicting interests on the frequency and outcomes of mating *** maximize their fitness by mating with as many females as possible,whereas choosy females often reduce receptivity following *** male mating tactics can be adaptive in their expression to a variety of mating contexts,including interactions with a relatively unreceptive mated *** Rabidosa punctulata wolf spiders can adopt distinctive mating tactics when interacting with a female,a complex courtship display,and/or a more coercive direct mount tactic that often involves grappling with females for *** this study,we set up female mating treatments with initial trials and then paired mated and unmated females with males to observe both female remating frequencies and the male mating tactics used during the *** adopted different mating tactics depending on the mating status of the female they were paired *** were more likely to adopt a direct mount tactic with already-mated females and courtship with unmated ***-mated females were considerably less receptive to males during experimental trials,although they did remate 34%of the time,the majority of which were with males using a direct mount *** males adjusting to these contextual cues were able to gain more copulations,the observation of multiple mating in female *** introduces the potential for sperm *** discuss this sexual conflict in terms of the fitness consequences of these mating outcomes for both males and females.
