Chinese herbal medicine Yougui Pill reduces exogenous glucocorticoid-induced apoptosis in anterior pituitary cells

Long-term glucocorticoid use may result in sustained suppression of one or more secreted components from the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, and often results in apoptosis. Yougui Pill（YGP）, a 10-component traditional Chinese herbal medicine, has been shown to be clinically effective for glucocorticoid-induced suppression of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis. However, the pharmacological and molecular mechanisms remain unclear. We hypothesized that YGP would exert an anti-apoptosis effect on dexamethasone-treated anterior pituitary cells. In vivo experiments showed that YGP significantly reduced the number of apoptotic cells, down-regulated m RNA expression of cytochrome c, caspase-3, and caspase-9, and up-regulated m RNA expression of Bcl-2. These findings suggest that YGP reduced glucocorticoid-induced apoptosis in rat anterior pituitary cells by regulating the mitochondria-mediated apoptosis pathway.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)with portal vein tumor throm-bus(PVTT)yields poor prognosis with a median overall survival(OS)of 2.7–4 months[1].Once PVTT develops in the main portal vein,the sudden appearance of portal hypertension often leads to fatal complications,including esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage,refractory ascites,and liver *** chemoemboliza-tion(TACE)has been recommended for advanced HCC patients by China Liver Cancer Group due to its benefit of OS compared with using sorafenib alone[2].For the treatment of PVTT,portal stent with endovascular iodine-125 brachytherapy(PSEIB)was re-cently reported to be effective because it relieved portal hyper-tension rapidly and controlled PVTT effectively with an improved OS of 9.3–12.5 months[3,4].The combination of PSEIB and TACE had been applied in some studies[3,4].Nevertheless,these studies failed to demonstrate the effect of PSEIB on TACE *** we aimed to present a case how PSEIB improves the efficacy of TACE for HCC patients with main PVTT.

Objective To investigate the relationship between pemphigus vulgaris （PV） and human leukocyte antigen （HLA） in Han nation of northeast China. Mothods Standard microcytotoxicity test and polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific primers method were used to detect the HLA class Ⅰ antigens and HLA-DRBI and DQBI alleles in 27 patients with PV and results were compared with control group. Gene and phenotype frequencies of HLA-A3, A26（10）, B60（40）, and B13 （27.99%, 48%; 16.11%, 30%; 23.02%, 41%; 16.11%, 30%, respectively） increased significantly in PV group compared with control （1.01%, 2%; 0.5%, 1%; 4.61%, 9%; 5,13%, 10%, respectively）. After P value correction, the difference of A3, A26 （10）, and B60 （40） between the two groups was still significant. The gene frequencies of HLA-DRB 1^＊ 140x （1401, 1404, 1405, 1407, 1408）, DRBI^＊I20x, and DQBI＊0503 alleles in PV group （42.26%, 25.46%, and 23.02%） were significantly higher than control group （5.09%, 7.74%, and 1.89%）. After P value correction, the difference was still significant between the two groups. Collusion PV significantly relates with HLA in PV patients of Han nation of northeast China.

Apoptosis is involved in aging and age-related disease, with respect to aging, apoptosis acting in a celltype-specific manner. The rate of apoptosis is elevated in-most types of aging cell populations and organs. In stable cells and certain continuously dividing cells, apoptosisserves to eliminate presumably dysfunctional cellsthat show homeostatic failure due to oxidative stress, glycation, and DNA damage, thereby maintaining homeostasis in the body. What’smore, apoptosis, at least in part, plays some important role inthe regulation of aging process and anti-tumorigenesis in mammals. Age-enhanced apoptosis may be aninnateprotective mechanism against age-associated tumorigenesis. There is clear evidence to indicate that senescentcells are remarkably resistant to apoptosis. The intensity of global apoptosis and autophagy clearance significantly declines in humans during aging, as aging repress the apoptotic response. In this paper, we will review the relationship between apoptosis and aging, and outline how are they interact each other.

阐述了水平井开采过程中临界产量的概念，并对国内外几种常用的临界产量计算公式进行了评价介绍。特别对石油工程界使用较多的Chaperon的临界产量计算公式进行了分析，指出了该公式中存在的问题，对该公式进行了修正，同时进一步研究导出了适合水平井临界产量计算的广义预测公式。通过现场实例计算，证明了修正后的Chaperon公式和本文导出式均可在油藏工程计算中使用。

为了解青海省藏羊感染皮蝇蛆状况及感染种类,本研究在3个地区调查了476只藏羊,对2株感染藏羊皮蝇蛆和4株感染牦牛皮蝇蛆的线粒体CO1基因种属特异性序列进行比较研究。结果表明:14只羊感染了皮蝇蛆,感染率为2.9%,总瘤胞数为27个,平均感染强度为1.9个;并扩增其长度为688 bp的序列,克隆后测序,将其序列与GenBank中的牛皮蝇、纹皮蝇蛆和中华皮蝇蛆序列进行聚类分析,结果显示青海省感染藏羊的皮蝇蛆与感染牦牛的果洛株、民和和黄南株在线粒体CO1基因片段聚类分析进化树和同源性比较中,与牛皮蝇位于同一个进化树分支上,基因片段同源性大于99%,为牛皮蝇;感染牦牛的海晏株和贵南株在线粒体CO1基因片段聚类分析进化树和同源性比较中,与中华皮蝇位于同一个进化分支上,基因片段同源性大于99%,为中华皮蝇。几个皮蝇蛆分离株种内变异率小于1%,种间变异率大于8%。

To the Editor:Metastatic melanoma is a fatal disease with rapid systemic dissemination and a 5-year survival rate of about 1 7%.[1] More than half of primary metastases involve the skin as nodal,subcutaneous,or distant metastasis.[2] Cutaneous metastases of melanoma occur relatively frequently and can arise in early-or late-stage disease,with a variable clinical appearance and pattern distribution.[3] We describe herein a patient with a large subcutaneous nodule on the arm that we initially diagnosed as a *** obtaining further clinical history and reviewing the pathologic findings after excision,the nodule was determined to represent metastatic melanoma.
