How can we increase attraction and retention of nurses? A research with young nurses

The persistent challenges in attracting and retaining a diverse healthcare workforce, with a specific focus on nurses, have become increasingly pronounced in recent years. These hurdles have been exacerbated by a growing difficulty in retaining young nurses, thereby exacerbating labor shortages driven by demographic shifts and the retirement of experienced nursing professionals. While most research efforts have concentrated on the broader issue of nurse retention, our study is centered on a specific demographic—young nurses. Our research endeavors to shed light on the unique challenges faced by young nurses through a qualitative survey involving nursing students who are simultaneously employed. We seek to discern the multifaceted obstacles they encounter in both their academic environment and the healthcare organizations where they work. While certain challenges are linked to course organization, examinations, and the time required for studying, our respondents overwhelmingly emphasize the pivotal role of the work environment in facilitating the harmonization of work, family, and educational commitments. This reconciliation is achieved through measures such as flexible working arrangements and the efficient organization of nursing duties. The primary objective of our research is to provide insights into how these diverse challenges can be effectively addressed and how a range of measures can significantly contribute to the attraction and retention of nursing students, as well as the long-term retention of nurses within the healthcare system. Our recommendations are intended to be of practical use to a wide array of stakeholders, including academic institutions, particularly colleges and universities offering nursing programs, as well as hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare institutions that hire nurses. Background:Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease in the *** objective of the study was to determine the knowledge,attitude and practice of driver's license applicants and instructors in driving schools on epilepsy in Burkina ***:This cross-sectional study was carried out from January 7th to March 7th 2020 in 21 driving schools approved by the National Driver License Authority in the city of *** driver applicants and one instructor were selected in each driving school,resulting in a total of 315 driver applicants and 21 instructors in the ***:The mean age of participants was 29.91±7.63 *** of the driver applicants included in the study was once experienced a seizure *** respondents had heard of *** main source of epilepsy information was from family(42.5%).Two hundred and twenty-six respondents(673%)had witnessed an epileptic seizure.A majority of participants(55.9%)believed that persons with epilepsy be not permitted to drive a motor *** 44.0% of participants thought that people with epilepsy should be permitted to drive under certain *** hundred and four(30.9%)participants suggested that people with epilepsy be permitted to drive a light *** hundred and forty-one(42.0%)suggest to withdraw the driving license for lifetime if a driver had an epileptic seizure attack;while twenty-three(6.8%)participants recommended suspension of driver license for 12 ***:Efforts should be made to improve awareness and education among license applicants and instructors on the driving by people with epilepsy.

The sizes of Astyanax mexicanus blind cavefish populations of North-East Mexico are demographic parameters of great importance for investigating a variety of ecological,evolutionary,and conservation ***,few estimates have been *** these mobile animals living in an environment difficult to explore as a whole,methods based on capture-mark-recapture are appropriate,but their feasibility and interpretation of results depend on several assumptions that must be carefully ***,we provide evidence that minimally invasive genetic identification from captures at different time intervals(three days and three years)can give insights into cavefish population size dynamics as well as other important demographic parameters of *** also provide tools to calibrate sampling and genotyping efforts necessary to reach a given level of *** results suggest that the El Pachón cave population is currently very small,of an order of magnitude of a few hundreds of individuals,and is distributed in a relatively isolated *** probable decline in population size in the El Pachón cave since the last census in 1971 raises serious conservation issues.

Bactericidal and Fungicidal Efficacy of Chlorine Dioxide in Various Workspaces

Previously, we demonstrated the virucidal efficacy of low concentration chlorine dioxide (ClO2) gas in room settings. The purpose of these studies was to evaluate novel ClO2 formats as potential biocidal interventions for real world congregate settings and air systems. Three types of studies were conducted to determine the efficacy of ClO2 in reducing bacteria and mold in various workspaces: hard and soft surfaces (gymnasium & equipment), aerosol (in-room), and within a laboratory environment. The study demonstrated that ClO2 was highly effective against both bacteria and mold with reduction ranging from 85.0% - > 99.4% for bacteria and >99.4% for yeast and mold. Treatments on hard and soft surfaces (gymnasiums and sports equipment), reduced bacteria by an average of 90% - 95%. The following treatments were applied overnight: 1) hard surface spraying with dilute ClO2 solutions, 2) carpet and tumbling treatments with powdered ClO2 releasing impregnates, and 3) HVAC treatment and overall room deodorization with low dose ClO2 gas from controlled releasing sachets. The in-room study treating air with a ClO2 filtration media also indicated significant air and surface room efficacy, with an average of 94% reduction in bacteria after 24-hour, and 99.4% reduction in mold after 24-hours. In a related air study, a biological combination of Raoultella terrigena and Staphylococcus aureus was injected as a bio-aerosol into a 4-inch diameter pipe with air flowing at approximately 1200 ft/min. Dry ClO2 gas was introduced into the air flow to achieve an effective concentration of 5 or 10 ppmv. Air samples were collected at sampling ports downstream from the fan at 10, 22, 55 and 100 ft along the pipe and used to evaluate changes in airborne bacteria and mold. Background:This study is a component of a large research project on five major neglected zoonotic diseases(NZDs)including cystic echinococcosis and was undertaken in the Province of Sidi Kacem over a period of four years(April 2009-March 2013).Methods:Questionnaires were administered at community level in a total of 27 communes and visits were made to all of the 10 abattoirs situated in the Province,to collect qualitative data on determinants of transmission for disease in humans and *** specifically,community knowledge,attitudes and practices related to cystic echinococcosis were assessed,as well as the extent to which local customs and behaviours may promote *** infrastructure and practices,and their role in perpetuating disease transmission were also critically ***:The results show that only 50%of people have heard of the disease,and of those,only 21%are aware of the dog’s role in disease ***-seven per cent of respondents stated that dogs are fed ruminant organs deemed unfit for human *** dogs have access to the family home,including the kitchen,in 39%of *** extent of this close proximity between humans and animals is even more pertinent when one considers that dogs are omnipresent in the community,with an average of 1.8 dogs owned per *** unrestricted access of dogs to abattoirs is a huge issue,which further promotes disease ***:This study would suggest that the high prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in humans and animals in Morocco is largely due to three factors:1)abundance of dogs 2)engagement in risky behaviour of the local population and 3)poor abattoir infrastructure and *** has serious implications in terms of the socio-economic impact of the disease,especially for rural poor communities.

Therapeutic Effects of an Alpha-Casozepine and White Fish Muscle Hydrolyzed Complementary Feed on Canine Separation-Related Disorders and Quality of Life of Dogs and Their Pet Owners

Background: Separation-related disorders are prevalent in dogs and can result in problem behaviours such as inappropriate elimination, destructive behaviour, and distress vocalizations which occur when an owner is absent or perceived as absent. Numerous natural products are marketed for managing anxiety in dogs;however, few, if any, of these products have documented evidence of efficacy in veterinary behaviour. Purpose: This open, multicentric clinical trial aimed to assess the efficacy of a new supplement containing alpha-casozepine and fish muscle hydrolysate on the separation-related problem in dogs and the impact on the quality of life of dogs and their pet owners. Material and Methods: Fifty-one dogs with clinical signs compatible with separation-related problems were included. The dogs were treated with a complementary feed (Zylkene Plus, Vetoquinol, France) for 30 days. Separation-related behaviour assessment (SRP), emotional disorders assessment (EDED) and the quality of life (QoL) of the pets and their pet owner were assessed at baseline and the end of the study by the veterinarians. In addition, owners were asked to rate their dog’s SRP weekly after enrolment using the same questionnaire that the veterinarian used at the beginning of the study. Results: There was a statistically significant improvement in the SRP, EDED, and QoL scores (P Conclusion: The results of this study support the hypothesis that the combination of alpha-casozepine and fish muscle hydrolysate is a promising and effective option to reduce the frequency and severity of separation-related behaviour in dogs and improve the quality of dogs and their owners.

Aging and menopause reprogram osteoclast precursors for aggressive bone resorption

Women gradually lose bone from the age of〜35 years,but around menopause,the rate of bone loss escalates due to increasing bone resorption and decreasing bone formation levels,rendering these individuals more prone to developing *** increased osteoclast activity has been linked to a reduced estrogen level and other hormonal ***,it is unclear whether intrinsic changes in osteoclast precursors around menopause can also explain the increased osteoclast ***,we set up a protocol in which CD14f blood monocytes were isolated from 49 female donors(40-66 years old).Cells were differentiated into osteoclasts,and data on differentiation and resorption activity were *** multiple linear regression analyses combining in vitro and in vivo data,we found the following:(1)age and menopausal status correlate with aggressive osteoclastic bone resorption in vitro;(2)the type I procollagen N-terminal propeptide level in vivo inversely correlates with osteoclast resorption activity in vitro;(3)the protein level of mature cathepsin K in osteoclasts in vitro increases with age and menopause;and(4)the promoter of the gene encoding the dendritic cell-specific transmembrane protein is less methylated with *** conclude that monocytes are"reprogrammed"in vivo,allowing them to"remember"age,the menopausal status,and the bone formation status in vitro,resulting in more aggressive *** discovery suggests that this may be mediated through DNA *** suggest that this may have clinical implications and could contribute to understanding individual differences in age-and menopause-induced bone loss.
