Pediatric Nursing Care and Its Practices in Three Health Care Facilities

Introduction: Pediatric nursing cares are among the most important care needed referring to the category of patients. A gap of the best practice in Pediatric Nursing Care (PNC) had been publically a major problem of health and raises the rate of morbidity and mortality. The lack of nursing guidelines, low level of studies, experience at work and low economic status of Health Care Facilities (HCFs) were the main problems assessed in these three HCFs (HUCK, VNC and MHK) in this study. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge of nurses during their practices in Pediatric Wards of HCFs and to provide a better contribution. Method: A descriptive study design was used in this study during the period of one month. 43, 25 and 30 nurses were selected among 98 nurses by using Dilman formula. A questionnaire with 5 parameters was distributed. Data were typed using Microsoft ward and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists version 16 software (SPSS). Results: The current study found that the majority of nurses don’t know to make the best nursing diagnosis neither the factors related to the implementation of EBP in PNC. The nurses have shown different barriers often met during their practices. The all process of nursing diagnosis was not recognized with the average of 97.6% of nurses. Conclusion: Even if the nurses have some experience at work they express their weakness based on low level of study, lack of knowledge and trained professionals on work and the pediatric nursing guidelines.

Nucleic acid sensing is a 3 decades old but still challenging area of application for different biological sub-domains,from pathogen detection to single cell transcriptomics *** many applications of nucleic acid detection and identification are mostly carried out by PCR techniques,sequencing,and their derivatives used at large ***,these methods’limitations on speed,cost,complexity and specificity have motivated the development of innovative detection methods among which nucleic acid biosensing technologies seem *** switches are a particular class of RNA sensing devices relying on a conformational switch of secondary structure induced by the pairing of the detected trigger RNA with a de novo designed synthetic sensing mRNA *** we describe a streamlined methodology enabling the development of such a sensor for the RNA-mediated detection of an endangered plant species in a cell-free reaction *** applied this methodology to help identify the rosewood Dalbergia maritima,a highly trafficked wood,whose protection is limited by the capacity of the authorities to distinguish protected logs from other unprotected but related *** streamlined pipeline presented in this work is a versatile framework enabling cheap and rapid development of new sensors for custom RNA detection.

Background: In-hospital mortality is high in low-income countries. Currently, little is known in Cameroon concerning the characteristics of patients who die in cardiology units. Our objectives were to determine the in-hospital mortality rate;describe the general characteristics of death patients, and factors associated with mortality. Material and Methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study by reviewing the medical records of all patients admitted to the cardiology unit of the Yaoundé Central Hospital (CHY) between January 2018 andJanuary 2019. The files of all death patients were studied for socio-demographical, clinical and therapeutical variables. Bivariate analysis was conducted to order to check the association between independents variables and time of death. A p-value 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total number of 860 patients were admitted in the cardiology unit of CHY during the study period. Amongst the 860 patients admitted 78 had a fatal outcome, hence, an in-hospital mortality rate of 9.06%. The male gender was predominant amongst the deceased patients (n = 45). The mean age at death was 69 ± 15.19 years. The median time before death was 6 days and they ranged between 1 to 25 days. Hypertension was the most frequent comorbidity (65.4%). Nutrition is the main factor determining the potential of farmed fish to exhibit their growth capacity as a function of the protein content and certain additives contained in their diet. Thus, the present study was conducted to assess dietary supplementation effects of ginger and garlic as feed additives on growth, feed utilization and whole-body composition in Clarias gariepinus fry. Following a 24 h fasting, 525 fry weighing 1.2 ± 0.01 g were randomly divided in triplicate into five treatments of 105 fish each and fed for 56 days. In treatment T0, fry was fed with control basal diet, in treatments T1 and T2, fry was fed with basal diet containing 1% and 2% ginger, while in treatments T3 and T4, fry was fed on basal diet supplemented with 1% and 2% garlic. From a total of 80 fertile eggs incubated naturally by female ducks, healthy sexed ducklings (n = 64, 32 males and 32 females ducklings) were randomly selected and allotted to four dietary treatments with four replicates, in a completely randomized design in order to evaluate the effect of varying levels of palm kernel meal (PKM) on performance of ducklings. The dietary treatments comprised R0-control ration, R50-50% PKM replacement, R75-75% PKM re-placement and R100-100% PKM replacement of soyabean meal. The main results revealed that the apparent digestive coefficients of dry matter (81.12%), organic matter (83.98%) and NDF (81.10%) were higher with the ration in which 50% (R50-50% PKM replacement of soyabean meal) of soybean was replaced by palm kernel meal. The highest feed intake in male was recorded with the ration containing 75% (R75-75% PKM replacement of soyabean meal) of palm kernel. This same ration (R75-75% PKM replacement of soyabean meal) equally induced the highest live weight and weight gain in females. The experimental design and arrangement is a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement with two sexes and four levels of PKM. In males, the control ration without palm kernel meal induced the highest live weight and highest cumulative weight gain. The lowest feed conversion ratio (p 0.05) affected by the incorporation of palm kernel meal into the diet. Urea serum content tends to decrease with the increasing level of palm kernel meal in feed. Microbial resistance in livestock has become a subject of great concern of public and scientific interest. This study was designed to assess the effects of methenamine feeding regime on growth performances of broilers chickens. For this purpose, 120 chicks of Cobb 500 strain, including 60 males and 60 females of 21 days old with an average weight of 639 g and 584 g respectively were used. They were randomly distributed in 60 experimental units of 2 chicks of same sex per cage until 49 days. Methenamine was incorporated in feed (TA), acidified (TEa) and non acidified (TE) water and compared to an antibiotic medicated diet as positive control (T0+) and a ration without any supplement as negative control (T0). The main results showed that, regardless of the feeding regime, methenamine significantly (p 0.05) increased feed inteake, body weight, weight gain and decreased (p 0.05) feed conversion ratio. Methenamine whatever the feeding regime induced a significant increase in lactic acid bacteria counts compared to coliforms and coccidies counts. Salmonella were absent throughout the trial period. Regardless of sex and feeding regime, hematological parameters were not significantly affected, with the exception of white blood cell and platelet concentration that decreased significantly (p 0.05) in male broilers. Introduction: Irritable bowel syndrome is the most common functional gastrointestinal disorder. The objective of this work is to contribute to improving the medical follow-up of medical students at the University of Parakou through a study of irritable bowel syndrome. Study Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection. Data were collected from medical students from May 2018 to July 2018 using a pre-established questionnaire. Sampling was probabilistic using a two-stage survey. The diagnostic tools were: Rome IV criteria, Bristol scale and HAD (hospital anxiety and depression) scale. Data analysis was performed using Epi Info 7.***.3.14 software. CDC. Results: Thirty-two (7.55%) of the 424 students included had irritable bowel syndrome. Out of the 32 students with IBS, 24 (75%) were female. Their average age was 21.38 ± 2.39 years. For 24 students (75%), the symptoms occurred at the same time as exam preparation or the intense course period. Of the 32 students with IBS, 1 (3.12%) was regularly physically active. In this series, 8 students (28%) consulted a doctor for their symptoms. The factors associated with this syndrome were female sex (p = 0.022), sleep disorders (p = 0.008) and the presence of a doubtful depression (p = 0.021). Absenteeism due to irritable bowel syndrome was noted in 18 (56.25%) students. Conclusion: Irritable bowel syndrome is a common condition among medical students in Parakou. Support for better management of psychological disorders could improve the quality of life of these students.

This work was designed to investigate the acute and reproductive toxicity activity of the aqueous extract of the dry seeds of Aframomum daniellii on the female rats. The acute toxicity of the aqueous extract of Aframomum daniellii (A. daniellii) was evaluated with 6 female rats which were divided into 2 groups (1 Test group and the Control group) of 3 female rats each. The control group received distilled water (10 mL/kg/po) and the test group received a single dose of extract of A. daniellii at the dose of 2000 mg/kg. The reproductive toxicity was evaluated using 45 adult female rats which were divided into 5 groups. Group I, received distilled water (1 mL/100 g/po, neutral control);group II, received Clomiphene citrate (600 μg/kg/po, positive control);Groups III, IV and V (trials) received aqueous extract of A. daniellii at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg/po respectively. The animals were treated daily for 14 days. From the 6th day of treatment, the rats were mated with males of proven fertility for 8 days. On day 22, after laparotomy and delivery, the number of implantation sites, corpora lutea, resorption sites and pups were recorded. Concerning the acute toxicity, it was observed that, after the single dose of 2000 mg/kg administration of the aqueous extract of the dry seeds of A. daniellii, no deaths were recorded. Concerning the reproductive toxicity, no implantation and gestation were observed when compared to the control. However, the aqueous extract of A. daniellii caused a significant (p A daniellii is weakly toxic, but could negatively affect some reproductive parameters.
