Decreases in Both the Seroprevalence of Serum Antibodies and Seroprotection against Japanese Encephalitis Virus among Vaccinated Children

The incidence of Japanese encephalitis(JE)has significantly decreased in China due to JE *** this study,we investigated the post-JE vaccination seroprevalence and protection provided by vaccinated sera against Japanese encephalitis virus(JEV)to elucidate the persistence and waning of antibodies to JEV among JE-SA14-14-2-vaccinated children.A total of 300 serum samples were collected from vaccinated children aged 3-10 years in Zhaotong,Yunnan,*** seroprevalence of anti-JEV antibodies was determined by enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay and plaque reduction neutralization *** highest seropositivity of 82%was observed in vaccinated children during the first 0.5-1.5 years after booster ***,the seropositivity began to decline and remained lower than the original level observed in the 0.5-1.5-year *** association was found between the waning of seroprevalence and elapsed time of the post-booster ***,the neutralizing antibody(nAb)titres gradually decreased over time,and the levels showed a positive correlation with the protective efficacy in *** finding suggests that nAbs play an important role in the antiviral process and that the nAb titre is an adequately credible parameter for evaluating the protective efficacy induced by the JE *** results provide data that clarify the persistence and waning of antibodies to JEV,which may help elucidate the pathogenesis of JE.

Antioxidant Activity of 50 Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials Varies with Total Phenolics

This study was designed to determine the total phenolic content of 50 herbs and to examine their antioxidant potential. In the sample preparation, 60% ethanol was chosen as the extraction solvent for the subsequent experiments. Folin-Cicolteau phenol reagent and a colorimetric method were used to determine the total phenolic content of the selected herbs. The result showed that total phenolic content of those herbs ranged from 2 to 185 mg/g. In antioxidant assay, the ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) values ranged from 2 to 134 mg GAE/g;the IC50 values of DPPH?·, ·OH and ?scavenging were in the range of 0.06 - 5.50 mg/mL, 0.017 - 0.636 mg/mL and 0.050 - 0.681 mg/mL respectively. Flos caryophylli was the exceptant in the ?scavenging assay because there was no linear relation between the concentration and the scavenging percentage. Compared to gallic acid, ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) in antioxidant assay as positive control, the most potential antioxidant herbs were Cacumen platycladi, Radix et Rhizoma rhei, Rhizoma rhodiolae crenulatae, and Rhizoma sanguisorbae with considerable content of phenolics. Especially, a positive and significant correlation was found between the total phenolic content and FRAP value or DPPH· scavenging percentage.

hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is a lethal liver malignancy worldwide. In this study, we reported that protein phosphatase magnesium-dependent 16 （PPM1D） was highly expressed in the majority of HCC cases （approximately 59%） and significantly associated with high serum a-fetoprotein （AFP） level （P = 0.044）. Kaplan- Meier and Cox regression data indicated that PPM1D overexpression was an independent predictor of HCC- specific overall survival （HR, 2.799; 95% CI, 1.346-5.818, P = 0.006）. Overexpressing PPM1D promoted cell viability and invasion, whereas RNA interference-mediated knockdown of PPM1D inhibited proliferation, invasion, and migration of cultured HCC cells. In addition, PPM1D suppression by small interfering RNA decreased the tumorigenicity of HCC cells in vivo. Overall, results suggest that PPM1D is a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target for HCC.

Effect of Nurse-Assisted Early Warning Intervention for Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism Following Cesarean Delivery

Electroporation-Mediated Immunization of a Candidate DNA Vaccine Expressing Dengue Virus Serotype 4 prM-E Antigen Confers Long-Term Protection in Mice

Dengue fever, caused by dengue viruses(DENVs), is a widespread mosquito-borne zoonotic disease; however, there is no available anti-dengue vaccine for worldwide use. In the current study, a DNA vaccine candidate(pV-D4 ME) expressing prM-E protein of DENV serotype 4(DENV-4) was constructed, and its immunogenicity and protection were evaluated in immunocompetent BALB/c mice. The pV-D4 ME candidate vaccine induced effective humoral and cellular immunity of mice against DENV-4 in vivo when administered both at 50 μg and 5 μg through electroporation. Two weeks after receiving three immunizations, both doses of pV-D4 ME DNA were shown to confer effective protection against lethal DENV-4 challenge. Notably, at 6 months after the three immunizations, 50 μg, but not 5 μg, of pV-D4 ME could provide stable protection(100% survival rate) against DENV-4 lethal challenge without any obvious clinical signs. These results suggest that immunization with 50 μg pV-D4 ME through electroporation could confer effective and long-term protection against DENV-4, offering a promising approach for development of a novel DNA vaccine against DENVs.

Study on the Reaction Mechanism for Carbon Dioxide Reforming of Methane over supported Nickel Catalyst

The adsorption and dissociation of methane and carbon dioxide for reforming on nickel catalyst were extensively investigated by TPSR and TPD experiments. It showed that the decomposition of methane results in the formation of at least three kinds of surface carbon species on supported nickel catalyst, while CO2 adsorbed on the catalyst weakly and only existed in one kind of adsorption state. Then the mechanism of interaction between the species dissociated from CH4 and CO2 during reforming was proposed.
