Evaluation of SWAT sub-daily runoff estimation at small agricultural watershed in Korea

A study was undertaken for the prediction of runoff flow from 0.8 ha field-sized agricultural watershed in South Korea using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) sub-daily. The SWAT model with sub-daily configuration predicted flow from the watershed within the range of acceptable accuracy. The SWAT sub-daily simulations were carried out for a total of 18 rainfall events, 9 each for calibration and validation. Overall trend and extent of matching simulated flow for the rainfall events in 2007–2008 with measured data during the calibration process were coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.88 and Nash and Sutcliffe Efficiency (ENS) value of 0.88. For validation, R2 and ENS values were 0.9 and 0.84, respectively. Whereas R2 and ENS values for simulation results using daily rainfall data were 0.79 and ?0.01, respectively, that were observed to be out of acceptable limits for the model simulation. The importance of higher time resolution (hourly) precipitation records for flow simulation were evaluated by comparing R2 and ENS with 15 min, 2 h, 6 h and 12 h precipitation data, which resulted in lower statistics with increases in time resolution of precipitation data. The SWAT sub-daily sensitivity analysis was performed with the consideration of hydraulic parameter and was found as in the rank order of CN2 (curve number), ESCO (soil evaporation compensation factor), GW_DELAY (ground water delay time), ALPHA_BF (base flow alpha factor), GWQMN (a threshold minimum depth of water in the shallow aquifer required for return flow to occur), REVAPMN (minimum depth of water in shallow aquifer for re-evaporation to occur), LAT_TIME (lateral flow travel time) respectively. BACKGROUND The cellular prion protein(PrPC),traditionally associated with neurodegenerative disorders,plays an important role in cancer progression and metastasis by inhibiting *** To investigate the influence of PrPC expression in cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)on patient outcomes following surgical *** Patients who underwent curative surgical resection for either intrahepatic or hilar CCA were enrolled in this retrospective *** on the immunohistochemical staining results of the surgical specimens,patients were categorized into two groups:The low PrPC group(negative or 1+)and the high PrPC group(2+or 3+).Survival analyses,including overall survival and recurrence-free survival,were conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank *** In total,seventy-six patients diagnosed with CCA(39 with intrahepatic and 37 with hilar CCA)underwent curative hepatectomy from January 2011 to November *** these patients,38(50%)demonstrated high PrPC expression,whereas the remaining 38(50%)showed low expression of *** a median follow-up period of 31.2 months(range:1 to 137 months),the high PrPC group had a significantly shorter median overall survival than the low PrPC group(40.4 months vs 137.9 months,respectively;P=0.041).Moreover,the high PrPC group had a significantly shorter median recurrence-free survival than the low PrPC group(13.3 months vs 23.8 months,respectively;P=0.026).CONCLUSION PrPC expression is significantly associated with early recurrence and decreased survival period in CCA patients following surgical ***,PrPC may be used as a prognostic factor in treatment planning.

Alterations of Gefitinib Pharmacokinetics by Co-administration of Herbal Medications in Rats

Objective： To evaluate the potential pharmacokinetic interactions of the anticancer agent gefitinib （Iressae） and the oriental medications Guipi Decoction （归脾汤, GPD, Guibi-tang in Korean） and Bawu Decoction （八物汤, BWD, Palmul-tang in Korean）. Methods： Methylceliulose （MC, control）, GPD （1,200 mg/kg）, or BWD （6,000 mg/kg） was orally administered to rats either as a single dose or multiple doses prior to gefitinib administration. To examine the effects of a single dose of the herbal medicines, gefitinib （10 mg/kg） was orally administered after 5 min or 1 h of MC or the herbal medicine pretreatments. To examine the effects of the multiple doses of the herbal medicines, gefltinib （10 mg/kg） was orally administered following 7 consecutive days of the administration of MC or each herbal medicine. The plasma concentrations of gefitinib were determined with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry assay. The plasma concentration-time profiles of gefitinib were analyzed with a noncompartmental analysis. Results： Gefitinib was rapidly absorbed and showed a mono- exponential decline with an elimination half-life of 3.7-4.1 h. The pharmacokinetics of gefitinib was not affected by GPD pretreatment. However, a significantly lower maximum plasma concentration （Crux, P〈0.05） and area under the curve （P〈0.05）, and a delayed time to reach Cmax （Tmax, P〈0.01） were observed in both single- and multiple- dose BWD-pretreated rats compared with the control rats. Conclusions： BWD and not GPD might delay and interfere with gefitinib absorption. Further evaluations of the clinical significance of these findings are needed.

Enhancement of mechanical and tribological performance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by laser surface alloying with Inconel 625 and SiC precursor materials

This study focused on producing metal matrix composite(MMC)coatings on Ti–6Al–4V alloy through laser surface alloying using a novel combination of Inconel 625 and SiC precursor *** ratios of alloying powders were examined to evaluate surface properties such as microhardness,wear resistance,and friction coefficient,along with analyzing the phase composition and microstructure of the *** in situ synthesized MMC coatings exhibited the presence ofα-Ti,NiTi,NiTi_(2),and TiC ***,Ti_(5)Si_(3)andα-Ti/Ti_(5)Si_(3)eutectic structures were observed when the SiC content exceeded 20%.In comparison to the titanium substrate,the MMC coating significantly enhanced microhardness by over threefold and reduced wear by 95%.However,it was crucial to carefully select the appropriate combination of alloying powders to avoid a substantial decrease in friction performance and excessive formation of *** a comparative analysis of experimental results,the optimal precursor material composition was identified as 85%Inconel 625 and 15%*** study demonstrated the effective utilization of Inconel 625 and SiC alloying materials to enhance the surface properties of titanium alloys,thereby expanding their application in challenging environments.

Distributed Trusted Computing for Blockchain-Based Crowdsourcing

A centralized trusted execution environment(TEE)has been extensively studied to provide secure and trusted ***,a TEE might become a throughput bottleneck if it is used to evaluate data quality when collecting large-scale data in a crowdsourcing *** may also have security problems compromised by ***,we propose a scheme,named dTEE,for building a platform for providing distributed trusted computing by leveraging *** platform is used as an infrastructure of trusted computations for blockchain-based crowdsourcing systems,especially to securely evaluate data quality and manage remuneration:these operations are handled by a TEE ***,dTEE uses a public blockchain with smart contracts to manage TEEs without reliance on any trusted third ***,to update TEE registration information and rule out zombie TEEs,dTEE uses a reporting *** attract TEE owners to join in and provide service of trusted computations,it uses a fair monetary incentive ***,to account for malicious attackers,we design a model with Byzantine fault tolerance,not limited to a crash-failure ***,we conduct an extensive evaluation of our design on a local *** results show that dTEE finishes evaluating 10,000 images within one minute and achieves about 65 tps throughput when evaluating Sudoku solution data with collective signatures both in a group of 120 TEEs.

Let-7 miRNA and CDK4 siRNA co-encapsulated in Herceptin-conjugated liposome for breast cancer stem cells

Recently,breast cancer stem cells(BCSCs)have rapidly emerged as a novel target for the therapy of breast cancer as they play critical roles in tumor growth,maintenance,metastasis,and ***-7 miRNA is known to be downregulated in a variety of cancers,especially BCSCs,whereas CDK4 being overexpressed in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2)overexpressing tumor *** this study,let-7 miRNA and CDK4-specific siRNA were chosen as therapeutic agents and co-encapsulated in Herceptinconjugated cationic liposomes for breast cancer *** size,zeta potential,and encapsulation efficacy of mi/siRNA-loaded PEGylated liposome conjugated with Herceptin(Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA)were 176 nm,28.1 mV,and 99.7%±0.1%,*** cellular uptake(86%)was observed by fluorescence microscopy when SK-BR-3 cells were treated with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/***,the increased amount of let-7a mRNA and decreased amount of cellular CDK4 mRNA were observed by qRT-PCR when SK-BR-3 cells were treated with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA,which was even more so when SK-BR-3 stem cells were used(197 vs 768 times increase for let-7a,62%vs 68%decrease for CDK4).Growth inhibition(65%)andmigration arrest(0.5%)of the cellswere achieved by the treatment of the cells with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA,but not withmi/siRNA complex or other *** conclusion,an efficient liposomal delivery system for the combination of miRNA and siRNA to target the BCSCs was developed and could be used as an efficacious therapeuticmodality for breast cancer.

The bounds for the eigenvalues of the stiffness matrices in the finite element discretization corresponding to Lu := - u' with zero boundary conditions by quadratic hierarchical basis are shown explicitly. The condition number of the resulting system behaves like O(1/h) where h is the mesh size. We also analyze a main diagonal preconditioner of the stiffness matrix which reduces the condition number of the preconditioned system to O(1).

We develop and analyze a first-order system least-squares spectral method for the second-order elhptic boundary value problem with variable coefficients. We first analyze the Chebyshev weighted norm least-squares functional defined by the sum of the Lw^2- and Hw^-1- norm of the residual equations and then we eplace the negative norm by the discrete negative norm and analyze the discrete Chebyshev weighted least-squares method. The spectral convergence is derived for the proposed method. We also present various numerical experiments. The Legendre weighted least-squares method can be easily developed by following this paper.
