As a new class of two-dimensional materials, two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures constructed from metal chalcogenides (MCs) have been gaining tremendous attention due to their unprecedented physical and chemical phenomena, mainly originated from their distinct structural features such as composition, architecture type, spatial arrangement of each component, crystal structure, exposed facet and interface, dimensionality in their heterostructures. Towards the realization of practical applications, synthetic approaches need a rational design with a variety of architecture types including laterally-combined, vertically-aligned, and conformally-coated 2D MC heterostructures. Among various synthetic routes, solution-based synthesis is thought of as an alternative to fabrication through high-cost setups since it can control those structural features in a cheap fashion. This review presents recent progress on solution-based synthesis to produce various 2D MC heterostructures with a focus on the synthetic fundamentals in terms of thermodynamic and kinetic aspects related to the growth mechanism. Four different synthetic approaches are reviewed: seeded growth, cation exchange reaction, colloidal atomic layer deposition, direct synthesis including one-step process and modified electrochemical method. We also provide some representative applications of 2D MC heterostructures and their hybrid composites in various fields including optoelectronics, thermoelectrics, catalysis, and battery. Finally, we offer an insight into challenges and future directions in a synthetic improvement of 2D MC heterostructures.

Objective:SC-E3 is a polyherbal formula that contains five medicinal herbs used frequently in traditional herbal *** our previous study,we demonstrated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of *** present study examined the effects of SC-E3 in a mouse model of type-II collagen-induced arthritis(CIA).Methods:In vivo,male DBA/1 J mice were immunized by intradermal injection of bovine type-II collagen and complete or incomplete Freund’s adjuvant,to induce ***-E3 was orally administered daily for 23 *** vitro,bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMMs)were treated with macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF)and receptor activator of nuclear factor-j B ligand(RANKL)in the absence or presence of ***:Administrations of SC-E3 were found to have anti-arthritic effects in the joints of CIA mice,as evidenced by reduced paw swelling,bone erosion and deformation,inflammatory cell infiltration,and inflammation in synovial ***-E3 also reduced serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-a,interleukin-1 b,aspartate aminotransferase and alanine ***,tartrateresistant acid phosphatase-positive osteoclast numbers in the joints were significantly lower in SC-E3-treated CIA mice than in CIA *** addition,the differentiations of BMMs to multinucleated osteoclasts induced by M-CSF and RANKL stimulation were dose-dependently reduced by ***:These results suggest that SC-E3 possesses substantial anti-arthritic activity because it inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines and osteoclastogenesis,and that SC-E3 has potential therapeutic use for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Comparison of postoperative corneal changes between dry eye and non-dry eye in a murine cataract surgery model

AIM： To compare the effects of the surgical insult of cataract surgery on corneal inflammatory infiltration, neovascularization （NV） and lymphangiogenesis （LY） between the dry eye and non-dry eye in murine cataract surgery models.METHODS： We established two groups of animals, one with normal eyes （non-dry eye） and the second with induced dry eyes. In both groups, we used surgical insults to mimic human cataract surgery, which consisted of lens extraction, corneal incision and suture. After harvesting of corneas on the 9th postoperative day and immunohistochemical staining, we compared NV, LY and CD11b＋ cell infiltration in the corneas.RESULTS： Dry eye group had significantly more inflammatory infiltration （21.75%±7.17% r/s 3.65%±1.49%; P=0.049）. The dry eye group showed significantly more NV （48.21% ±4.02% ys 26.24% ±6.01% ; P =0.016） and greater levels of LY （9.27%±0.48% ys 4.84%±1.15%; P= 0.007）. In corneas on which no surgery was performed, there was no induction of NV in both the dry and non- dry group, but dry eye group demonstrated more CD11b＋ cells infiltration than the non-dry eye group （0.360%± 0.160% vs 0.023%±0.006%; P=0.068）. Dry eye group showed more NV than non-dry eye group in both topical PBS application and subconjunctival PBS injection （P= 0.020 and 0.000, respectively）.

Objective:To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects and the action mechanism of the fruits of Horenia dulcis(***) in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced mouse macrophage Raw ***:The extract of *** fruits(EHDF) were extracted with 70%*** macrophages were treated with different concentrations of EHDF in the presence and absence of LPS(1 μg/mL).To demonstrate the inflammatory mediators including nitric oxide,inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 expression levels were analyzed by usingin vitro assay ***-derived pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-1 β.tumor necrosis factor- α and prostaglandin F_2 were determined using ELISA *** viability,heme oxygenase-1 expression,nuclear factor-kappaB and nuclear factor F.2-related factors 2 translocation were also ***:EHDF potently inhibited the LPS-stimulated nitric oxide,inducible nitric oxide ***-2,interleukin-1 β and tumor necrosis factor- α expression in a dose-dependent *** suppressed the phosphorylation of inhibited kappaB-alpha and p65 nuclear *** of macrophage cells with EHDF alone induced the heme oxygenase-1 and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor E2-reIated factor ***:These results suggest that the ethanol extract of *** fruit exerts its anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting inhibited kappaBalpha phorylation and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-kappaB.

In the present study,we report a fabrication of dual-mode carbon coated gadolinia C@Gd_(2)O_(3)particles by a facile hydrothermal synthesis method without using any organic *** prepared C@Gd_(2)O_(3)particles have a core-shell structure and a narrow size distribution in the range of 261±27 *** fluorescent properties of the prepared C@Gd_(2)O_(3)particles were accessed by a room-temperature photoluminescence study,while the longitudinal relaxivity(r1)was examined by using a clinical 1.5 T MRI scanner.A murine fibroblast L-929 cell line was used to examine the cytotoxicity and capability of the prepared C@Gd_(2)O_(3)particles for the fluorescent *** obtained results show that the prepared C@Gd_(2)O_(3)particles could be used as a dual-mode contrast agent for magnetic resonance and fluorescence imaging.

AIM:To identify the epidemiologic characteristics of sportsand recreation-related eye injuries in a large metropolitan city and investigate risk factors associated with visual ***:We performed a multicenter prospective observational study on patients using the regional eye injury registry *** study included patients with sportsand recreation-related eye injury in four tertiary teaching hospitals in Daegu,Republic of Korea,from August 2016 to July *** primary outcome was visual impairment at the first hospital *** of sex,age,place,and causative materials were analyzed according to causative *** examine the association between causative activities and visual impairment,a Logistic regression analysis was ***:Of the 349 sports-and recreation-related eye injuries,soccer was the most common causative activity,with 21.8%(n=76).Sports-and recreation-related eye injuries occurred mainly in teenagers,individuals in their 20 s,and *** and soccer were significantly associated with visual impairment at the first hospital visit compared with combat sports[(adjusted odds ratio(AOR),5.18;95%confidence interval(CI),1.67-16.09 for badminton and AOR,3.87;95%CI,1.36-10.99 for soccer].CONCLUSION:Intervention efforts such as deployment of protective eyewear in sports facilities and schools and promotion of wearing protective eyewear during these activities in teenagers and individuals in their 20 s are mandatory.

Profitability Prediction Model for NPD Projects Under RisK

Only a few successful new product development （NPD） projects are continuously supported by the firm when they are expected to assure profitability in the market. The profitability of a project is measured as profit ratio （PR）, the profit is divided by the cost. The profit figure is changed depending on either internal risks or uncertainties occurring externally. More risks require higher response costs to them and uncontrollable uncertainties affect NPD projects either positively or negatively. In this study, a PR model is developed to predict the profitability of a project at a given time. The model minimizes the response cost computed under two extreme response strategies, such as ＂Avoid＂ and ＂Acceptance＂ for the internal threats. Also, the model reflects the sales volume changes due to external uncertainties. The linear programming （LP） method determines the optimal probability of the response strategy under three scenarios of defining the relationship between risk avoidance and risk acceptance. It can be utilized to make a GO/NOGO decision on the project based on the prediction results at any gate of the NPD process. The solving procedure is provided to apply the developed model for real cases.

Curvature range measurements of the arcuate fasciculus using diffusion tensor tractography

Because Broca＇s area and Wernicke＇s area in the brain are connected by the arcuate fasciculus, understanding the anatomical location and morphometry of the arcuate fasciculus can help in the treatment of patients with aphasia. We measured the horizontal and vertical curvature ranges of the arcuate fasciculus in both hemispheres in 12 healthy subjects using diffusion tensor tractography. In the right hemisphere, the direct curvature range and indirect curvature range values of the arcuate fasciculus horizontal part were 121.13 ± 5.89 and 25.99 ± 3.01 degrees, respectively, and in the left hemisphere, the values were 121.83 ± 5.33 and 27.40 ± 2.96 degrees, respectively. In the right hemisphere, the direct curvature range and indirect curvature range values of the arcuate fasciculus vertical part were 43.97 ± 7.98 and 30.15 ± 3.82 degrees, respectively, and in the left hemisphere, the values were 39.39 ± 4.42 and 24.08 ± 4.34 degrees, respectively. We believe that the measured curvature ranges are important data for localization and quantitative assessment of specific neuronal pathways in patients presenting with arcuate fasciculus abnormalities.

Cytochrome b5 Reductase 1 Triggers Serial Reactions that Lead to Iron Uptake in Plants

Rhizosphere acidification is essential for iron （Fe） uptake into plant roots. Plasma membrane （PM） H＊-ATPases play key roles in rhizosphere acidification. However, it is not fully understood how PM H＋-ATPase activity is regulated to enhance root Fe uptake under Fe-deficient conditions. Here, we present evidence that cytochrome b5 reductase 1 （CBR1） increases the levels of unsaturated fatty acids, which stimulate PM H＋-ATPase activity and thus lead to rhizosphere acidification. CBRl-overexpressing （CBRI-OX） Arabidopsis thaliana plants had higher levels of unsaturated fatty acids （18：2 and 18：3）, higher PM H＊-ATPase activity, and lower rhizosphere pH than wild-type plants. By contrast, cbrl loss-of-function mutant plants showed lower levels of unsaturated fatty acids and lower PM H＊-ATPase activity but higher rhizosphere pH. Reduced PM H＊-ATPase activity in cbrl could be restored in vitro by addition of unsatu- rated fatty acids. Transcript levels of CBR1, fatty acids desaturase 2 （FAD2）, and fatty acids desaturase 3 （FAD3） were increased under Fe-deficient conditions. We propose that CBR1 has a crucial role in increasing the levels of unsaturated fatty acids, which activate the PM H＊-ATPase and thus reduce rhizosphere pH. This reaction cascade ultimately promotes root Fe uptake.
