The unprecedented wheat yield increases during the Green Revolution were achieved through the introduc-tion of the Reduced height(Rht)-B1b and Rht-D1b semi-dwarfing *** Rht-1 alleles encode growth-repressing DELLA genes containing a stop codon within their open reading frame that confers gibberellin(GA)-insensitive *** this study,we successfully took the hurdle of detecting wild-type RHT-1 proteins in different wheat organs and confirmed their degradation in response to *** further demonstrated that Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b produce N-terminal truncated proteins through trans-lational *** of these N-terminal truncated proteins in transgenic lines and in Rht-D1c,an allele containing multiple Rht-D1b copies,demonstrated their ability to cause strong dwarfism,resulting from their insensitivity to GA-mediated degradation.N-terminal truncated proteins were detected in spikes and nodes,but not in the aleurone *** Rht-B 1b and Rht-D1b alleles cause dwarfism but have wild-type dormancy,this finding suggests that tissue-specific differences in translational reinitiation may explain why the Rht-1 alleles reduce plant height without affecting *** together,our findings not only reveal the molecular mechanism underlying the Green Revolution but also demonstrate that trans-lational reinitiation in the main open reading frame occurs in plants.

The combined influence of maturation,ripening,and climate on the profile of bioactive compounds was studied in banana(Musa acuminata,AAA,Cavendish,*** Naine).Their bioactive compounds were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu assay and high-performance thin layer chromatographic(HPTLC) *** polyphenol content of bananas harvested after 400 degree days remained unchanged during ripening,while bananas harvested after 600 and 900 degree days exhibited a significant polyphenol *** dopamine was the polyphenol with the highest concentration in banana peels during the green developmental stage and ripening,its kinetics differed from the total polyphenol *** results showed that this matrix of choice(maturation,ripening,and climate) may allow selection of the banana(***,AAA,Cavendish,*** Naine) status that will produce optimal concentrations of identified compounds with human health relevance.

Impact of ribavirin dose on retreatment of chronic hepatitis C patients

AIM: To study the efficacy and factors associated with a sustained virological response (SVR) in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) relapsing patients. METHODS: Out of 1228 CHC patients treated with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV), 165 (13%) had a relapse. Among these, 62 patients were retreated with PEG-IFN-2a or-2b and RBV. Clinical, biological, virological and histological data were collected. Initial doses and treatment modifications were recorded. The efficacy of retreatment and predictive factors for SVR were analyzed. RESULTS: An SVR was achieved in 42% of patients. SVR was higher in young ( 15.2 mg/kg per day (70% vs 35%, P = 0.04). In logistic regression, predictors of a response were age (P = 0.018), genotype (P = 0.048) and initial RBV dose/body weight (P = 0.022). None of the patients without a complete early virological response achieved an SVR (negative predictive value = 100%). CONCLUSION: Retreatment with PEG-IFN/RBV is effective in genotype 2 or 3 relapsers, especially in young patients. A high dose of RBV seems to be important for the retreatment response.

An Integrated Geochemical and Mineralogical Approach for the Evaluation of Zn Distribution in Long-Term Sludge-Amended Soil

This research work was designed to compare the Zn distribution in a long-term sludge-amended soil with that in a control soil. Two complementary approaches were performed: 1) a geochemical approach at the metric scale of the bulk soil horizons and 2) a mineralogical approach at the micrometric scale of the primary minerals weathering microsites. The geochemical approach revealed that Zn in the control soil was inherited from the weathering parent-rock. Its concentration was always lower than in the amended soil where Zn was supplied at the surface by the spread sludges and moves downwards. The mineralogical approach showed that the clay minerals, produced by the weathering of the primary minerals (amphiboles and plagioclases), or filling the fissure network were made up of smectites (saponite and montmorillonite) at the bottom and kaolinite at the top of the two soil profiles. Each clay mineral, with its specific sorption capacity, controlled the Zn distribution within the soil: the smectites produced by the amphiboles had high sorption capacity and favored Zn retention in the upper horizons of the soil. Conversely, the kaolinites produced by the plagioclases had lower sorption capacity, did not retain Zn in the surface horizons, and allowed it to migrate to deeper horizons where it was sorbed onto the montmorillonites.

Local seasonal migrations have long been common in France,and the migrations can be throughout the whole *** identification and assessment of such migration in European countries trace back to 1805 under the Napoleonic Empire regime,when nationality was based on jus sanguinis(Latin,right of blood)with the ultimate purpose of ensuring sufficient recruits in the Napoleonic armies,which is unlike the Republican France today that defines nationality on the basis of jus soli(Latin,right of the soil,also known as birthright citizenship).At the beginning of the 21st century,immigration has become a major challenge to the French domestic policy,and is closely linked to the issues of public safety,national identity,labor market,development of the European Union public policy,and the integration of the second generation by the secular,republican French *** migration within and outside of the Europe demonstrates four conceptual issues:European residents’country of origin,French nationality,the exercising of French citizenship,and the construction of a personal identity in the context of a more and more complex family ethnic composition after the restructuring.

1 Background Congenital heart disease(CHD)is the most common major congenital anomaly,affecting approximately one in every 100 live births[1].Among congenital anomalies,66%of preventable deaths are due to CHD,and 58%of the avertable morbidity and mortality due to congenital anomalies would result from scaling congenital heart surgery services[2].Every year,nearly 300,000 children and adults die from CHD,the majority of whom live in low-and middle-income countries(LMICs)[3].Approximately 49%of all individuals with CHD will require surgical or interventional care at some point in their lifetime[4];as a result of advances in access to and the delivery of such services,over 95%of children born with CHD in high-income countries now live into adulthood[3].Here,adults have surpassed children in the number of CHD cases at a ratio of 2:1[5].

Pulmonary embolism occurs more frequently after hepatectomy than previously thought but is infrequently associated with peripheral deep vein thrombosis. In this paper, we report 2 cases of postoperative hepatic vein thrombosis after liver resection. Both patients had undergone major hepatectomy of a non-cirrhotic liver largely exposing the middle hepatic vein. Clots were incidentally found in the middle hepatic vein 4 and 17 d after surgery despite routine systemic thrombo-prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparin. Coagulation of the transition plan in a context of mutation of the prothrombin gene and inflammation induced biloma were the likely predisposing conditions. Clots disappeared following curative anticoagulation. We conclude that thrombosis of hepatic veins may occur after liver resection and is a potential source of pulmonary embolism.

c-Fos overexpression increases the proliferation of human hepatocytes by stabilizing nuclear Cyclin D1

AIM： To investigate the effect of stable c-Fos over- expression on immortalized human hepatocyte （IHH） proliferation. METHODS： IHHs stably transfected with c-Fos （IHH- Fos） or an empty vector （IHH-C） were grown in me- dium supplemented with 1% serum or stimulated with 10% serum. Cell proliferation was assessed by cell counts, 3H-thymidine uptake and flow cytometry analyses. The levels of cell cycle regulatory proteins （Cyclin DI, E, A） cyclin dependent kinases （cdk） cdk2, cdk4, cdk6, and their inhibitors p15, p16, p21, p27, total and phosphorylated GSK-3β and epidermal growth factor receptor （EGF-R） were assayed by Western blotting. Analysis of O/c/in D1 mRNA levels was performed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR） analysis. Stability of Cyclin DI was studied by cycloheximide blockade experiments. RESULTS： Stable c-Fos overexpression increased cell proliferation under low serum conditions and resulted in a two-fold increase in [3H]-thymidine incorpora- tion following serum addition. Cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry showed that c-Fos accelerated the cell cycle kinetics. Following serum stimulation, Cyclin D1 was more abundantly expressed in c-Fos overexpress- ing cells. Cyclin D1 accumulation did not result from increased transcriptional activation, but from nuclear stabilization. Overexpression of c-Fos correlated with higher nuclear levels of inactive phosphorylated GSK- 3β, a kinase involved in Cyclin D1 degradation and higher levels of EGF-R mRNA, and EGF-R protein com- pared to IHH-C both in serum starved, and in serum stimulated cells. Abrogation of EGF-R signalling in IHH- Fos by treatment with AG1478, a specific EGF-R tyro- sine kinase inhibitor, prevented the phosphorylation of GSK-3β induced by serum stimulation and decreased Cyclin D1 stability in the nucleus. CONCLUSION： Our results clearly indicate a positive role for c-Fos in cell cycle regulation in hepatocytes. Importantly, we delineate
