BACKGROUND Porocarcinoma is a rare type of skin cancer that originates from sweat gland *** is an aggressive malignant skin cancer that is difficult to diagnose clinically owing to its rarity and similarity to squamous cell carcinoma(SCC).CASE SUMMARY This case involved a 92-year-old woman,a farmer by profession,presented with an exophytic and verrucous mass on her left palm that had formed 2 years prior and caused chronic pain and frequent ***,the patient was diagnosed with SCC using a punch biopsy;however,a repeat biopsy with addi-tional immunohistochemical tests was performed for ***,the patient was diagnosed with porocarcinoma and reconstruction was planned using a full-thickness skin *** treatment,the range of motion of the palm was preserved,and the aesthetic outcome was *** 6 mo of follow-up,the patient was satisfied with the *** Porocarcinoma is commonly misdiagnosed as SCC;therefore,clinicians should consider porocarcinomas when evaluating mass-like lesions on the hands.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Robotic versus laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A propensity score-matched analysis

Background: Minimally invasive surgery is becoming increasingly popular in the field of pancreatic surgery. However, there are few studies of robotic distal pancreatectomy(RDP) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of RDP for PDAC. Methods: Patients who underwent RDP or laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy(LDP) for PDAC between January 2015 and September 2020 were reviewed. Propensity score matching analyses were performed. Results: Of the 335 patients included in the study, 24 underwent RDP and 311 underwent LDP. A total of 21 RDP patients were matched 1:1 with LDP patients. RDP was associated with longer operative time(209.7 vs. 163.2 min;P = 0.003), lower open conversion rate(0% vs. 4.8%;P dollars;P = 0.003), and a higher rate of achievement of an R0 resection margin(90.5% vs. 61.9%;P = 0.042). However, postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B or C showed no significant intergroup difference(9.5% vs. 9.5%). The median disease-free survival(34.5 vs. 17.3 months;P = 0.588) and overall survival(37.7 vs. 21.9 months;P = 0.171) were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: RDP is associated with longer operative time, a higher cost of surgery, and a higher likelihood of achieving R0 margins than LDP.

Improvement in the Adhesion Between Electrode of a SOFC and Ag Paste as a Current Collector by Au Deposition

This paper reports the use of Au films to improve the performance of the stacked solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) based on the characterization of the interface and the adhesion between the electrodes of the SOFCs and the Ag paste. The specimens were manufactured to perform the experiment as follows. A Si O2 wafer with a 300 mm notch was attached to the electrodes of a SOFC by a Ag paste and Au film, which were deposited on the electrodes by sputtering for 1 min or 5 min deposition time and annealed at300 C for 1 h. The four-point bending test was performed, which resulted in the formation of an extended crack at the tip on the wafer notch, and the crack propagation was observed using a stereo microscope equipped with a charge-coupled device(CCD). Consequently, the interfacial adhesion energy and the effect of the Au film between the each electrode and the Ag paste can be evaluated. On the cathode, the interfacial adhesion energy without Au film was 2.59 J/m2(upper value) and the adhesion energy increased to 11.59 J/m2(upper value) and 15.89 J/m2(lower value) with the Au film. On the anode,the interfacial adhesion energy without Au film was 1.74 J/m2(upper value), which increased to 11.07 J/m2(upper value) and 14.74 J/m2(lower value) with the Au film. In addition, the interface areas were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) to estimate the interface delamination.
