Type 2 diabetes(T2D)mellitus is a common complex disease that currently affects more than 400 million people worldwide and has become a global health ***-throughput sequencing technologies such as whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing approaches have provided numerous new insights into the molecular bases of *** advances in the application of sequencing technologies to T2D research include,but are not limited to:(1)Fine mapping of causal rare and common genetic variants;(2)Identification of confident genelevel associations;(3)Identification of novel candidate genes by specific scoring approaches;(4)Interrogation of disease-relevant genes and pathways by transcriptional profiling and epigenome mapping techniques;and(5)Investigation of microbial community alterations in patients with *** this work we review these advances in application of next-generation sequencing methods for elucidation of T2D pathogenesis,as well as progress and challenges in implementation of this new knowledge about T2D genetics in diagnosis,prevention,and treatment of the disease.

Is yawning a tool for wakefulness or for sleep?

Numerous theories as to why we yawn have been advanced, but yawning appears to be a complex phenomenon that is difficult to study. The physiology of yawning with its sharp chest inhalation, along with its contagious nature, can be explained by an arousal theory, that is, yawning promotes vigilance and alertness within a group that overrides a drive to sleep. Other theories of yawning, such as brain thermoregulation, are not necessarily excluded by the arousal theory but may be the results of yawning rather than its cause.

The Effect of COVID-19 on Cashless Payments

The Siberian Craton and its evolution in terms of the Rodinia hypothesis

Recent geochronological studies in southern Siberia support a Siberian assembly between 2.1 and 1.8 Ga. This broadly coincides with major orogenic events in most other Precambrian continents including Laurentia. In the Mesoproterozoic, Siberia was mainly an area of stable platform sedimentation whereas Laurentia underwent a continental growth from southeast. Lack of traces of the Grenville orogeny in Siberia suggests its peripheral position in Rodinia. The eastern （Uchur- Maya area） and western （Yenisei area） Siberian margins probably faced oceans during the Meso- and Neoproterozoic. Recent geological, geochronological, geochemical and paleomagnetic data suggest integrity of Siberia and Laurentia in the Meso- and early Neoproterozoic with the Siberian southern margin close to the northern margin of Laurentia. However, some ‘intervening＇ continental blocks were probably located between these two cratons. The 750-720 Ma igneous event was probably related to the rifting between Siberia and Laurentia and the opening of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, causing the development of a passive margin sedimentary succession in southern Siberia.

Influence of Morphology Pattern of Genuine Damascus Steel on the Nature of Relief of Fracture Surfaces

It has been revealed that the structure of the transverse and longitudinal parts of the genuine Damascus knife of the XVIII century consists of troostite-carbide of the banding. The microhardness of the troostite layers is 450 HV;the carbide layers reach 950 HV. It is shown that such a banding structure in hardness will have a huge impact on the formation of a naturally patterned genuine Damascus structure. It is established that the form of the main drawings of the genuine Damascus pattern consists of separate elements of the topographic contour: hollows, hills, saddles, crosses and wavy dunes. It is shown that the damask pattern is a set of individual elements of the macrostructure alternating in a disordered form on different local areas of the surface. It is established that the destruction of genuine Damascus steels occurs under the action of two or more mechanisms, during the implementation of which traces remain on the surface of the fractures in the form of relief details of a mixed type. The mechanisms of mixed destruction are a combination of intragrain cleavage, micropore fusion and intergrain cracking. It is established that in order to implement the mechanism of separation of the main crack in the direction of the chopping blow, an optimum is required in the dispersion of troostite (61.8%) and carbide (38.2%) layers in genuine Damascus steel, the ratio of their volumes obeys the golden section rule. It is established that the damask pattern, consisting of elements of sinuous lines of a topographic contour, does not significantly affect the level of mechanical properties. This factor is a category of the quality of banding structures in genuine Damascus steel.

An unusual feature of the saline stratified lakes that were formed due to ongoing postglacial uplift on the White Sea coast is the presence of several differently colored thin layers in the zone with sharp gradients. Colored layers in five lakes at various stages of separation from the sea were investigated using optical microscopy, spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetry, and photobiology. The upper greenish colored layer located in the aerobic strata of all lakes near the compensation depth of 1% light penetration contains green algae. In the chemocline, another layer, brightly green, red or pink, is dominated by mixotrophic flagellates. Despite the very low light intensities and the presence of H 2 S, active photosynthesis by these algae appears to be occurring, as indicated by high values of the maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry, electron transport activity, photosynthetic activity of photosystem II, the fraction of active centers, and low values of heat dissipation. In the reduced zone of the chemocline, a dense green or brown suspension of anoxygenic phototrophs(green sulfur bacteria) is located.

Sinterability of nanopowders of terbia solid solutions with scandia,yttria,and lutetia

The synthesis of nanopowders of terbia compounds with scandia, yttria, and lutetia was carried out using a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method involving a mixture of nitrates of metals and glycine as a precursor. The nanopowder phase transformations were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis. It was found that lutetia has a negligible effect on the phase formation in terbia. On the other hand, yttrium and scandium ions significantly suppressed crystallization. The densification kinetics of nanopowders of the Tb_2O_3 compounds and the microstructure of ceramics after microwave sintering were studied using dilatometry and scanning electron microscopy. The introduction of scandia, yttria, or lutetia contributed to the intensification of the densification of the terbia ceramics when heated in a microwave field. Near full-density materials of terbia solid solutions with lutetia and yttria were obtained at about 1600–1640 ℃. The ceramics of scandia–terbia compounds contained the second phase, which causes light scattering.

Predicting anatomical results of surgical treatment of idiopathic macular hole

AIM： To determine the parameters most informative in predicting the anatomical results of surgical treatment of idiopathic full-thickness macular hole （IMH）. METHODS： One hundred and sixty-two consecutive patients （170 eyes） after primary operation for IMH were enrolled. Outcomes were classified as anatomical success when both IMH closure and restoration of the outer retinal structure were achieved. ＂Prospective＂ group included 108 patients （115 eyes） followed with optical coherence tomography （OCT） and microperimetry for ly after surgery. Potential prognostic criteria, except microperimetry data, were tested in ＂retrospective＂ group （54 patients, 55 eyes）. Prognostic value of each parameter was determined using receiver operating characteristic （ROC） analysis. Combined predictive power of the best prognostic parameters was tested with the use of linear discriminant analysis. RESULTS： IMH closure was achieved in 106 eyes （92%） in the prospective group and 49 eyes （89%） in the retrospective group. Despite anatomical closure, the outer retinal structure was not restored in two eyes in the first group and in one eye in the second group. Preoperative central subfield retinal thickness demonstrated the best discriminatory capability between eyes with anatomical success and failure： area under the ROC-curve （AUC） 0.938 （95% Ch 0.881-0.995）, sensitivity 64% at fixed specificity 95% （cut-off value 300um） in the prospective group; sensitivity 57% and specificity 90% in the retrospective group. Other continuous parameters except tractional hole index （AUC： 0.796, 95% Ch 0.591- 1.000） had significantly lower AUCs （P〈0.05）. The best combination of the parameters, established by discriminant analysis in the prospective group, could not confirm its predictive value in the retrospective group. CONCLUSION： Preoperative central subfield retinal thickness is a strong and probably the best predictor of anatomical results of IMH surgical treatment.
