Byrsonima intermedia A Juss. is a species with pharmacological properties from the Brazilian Cerrado that shows difficulties related to sexual propagation. Research on cell viability may provide useful information for the selection of cells with embryogenic potential during the callus culture, Within this context, our research is aimed at establishing the cell viability of calli from Byrsonima intermedia leaf segments. The calli went through three subculture phases, of 60 days each, in mS medium with 0.09 m sucrose, 0.6% agar, pH 5.8 and 4.52 lam 2,4-D. The calli were stored in dark conditions and samples were collected every 10 days from each subculture for viability tests with fluorescein 3,6-diacetate （fDA） and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride （TTC）. The staining methods allowed quantifying cell viability in each subculture. The best results from the fDA tests were obtained at 21, 25 and 29 days for the first, second and third subcultures respectively, with 53,86%, 61.88% and 53.73% viable cells. Regarding the TTC test, the largest absorbance values were obtained at 21, 27 and 28 days for the first, second and third subcultures respectively. fluorescence and spectrophotometry analyses were efficient for determination of cell viability during callus cultivation period.

BACKGROUND The healthcare impact of obesity is enormous,and there have been calls for new approaches to containing the epidemic *** invasive procedures have become more popular,with one of the most widely used being endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty(ESG).Although major adverse events after ESG are rare,some can cause considerable *** our knowledge,there has been no previous report of biliary ascites after *** SUmmARY A 48-year-old female with obesity refractory to lifestyle changes and prior gastric balloon placement underwent uncomplicated ESG and was discharged on the following *** postoperative day 3,she developed abdominal pain,which led to an emergency department visit the following *** was readmitted to the hospital,with poor general health status and signs of peritoneal *** tomography imaging showed fluid in the abdominal *** revealed biliary ascites and showed that the gallbladder was sutured to the gastric *** patient underwent cholecystectomy and lavage of the abdominal cavity and was admitted to the intensive care unit *** 7 d of antibiotic therapy and 20 d of hospitalization,she was ***,6 mo later,she presented in excellent general condition and with a 20.2%weight *** ESG is a safe ***,adverse events can still occur,and precautions should be taken by the *** general,patient position,depth of tissue acquisition,location of stitch placement,and endoscopist experience are all important factors to consider to mitigate procedural risk.

massive Thromboembolism from an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm after Successful Thrombolysis for an Acute myocardial Infarction

Thrombolytic therapy is indicated to the treatment of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction or pulmonary embolism. Its indication should especially consider the risk of bleeding, but other complications might pose harm to patients. Although rarely reported, fibrinolysis can trigger thromboembolic phenomena from emboligenic sources such as aortic aneurysms. Clinicians should be aware of this life-threatening complication. In this case report, we present one patient admitted due to a ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction successfully treated with fibrinolytic treatment, but who evolved with a massive microembolism from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Despite intensive medical care, the patient evolved with multiorganic failure due to distal microembolism to the guts and lower limbs, severe rhabdomyolysis and ultimately to death. In this challenging case, clinical, anatomical and histopathologic features are presented and discussed.

Essential oils are secondary metabolites produced by plants, can be extracted from any organ such as： leaves, branches, roots, rhizomes, flowers, fruits, seeds, wood and stem bark. The present study aimed to analyze the compounds found in the essential oil of leafHancornia speciosa var. pubescens （C. Nees ＆ mart.） mUll. Arg. （Apocynaceae）, popularly known as mangaba, and perform the soil chemical analysis of the occurrence of the same species. The oil was obtained by hydrodistillation in Clevenger from crushed leaves, their analysis was performed using the Shimadzu gas chromatograph model 2010 GC Ultra coupled to a mass spectrometer. The apofarnesol （48.45%）, naphthalene （4.84%）, ct-bisabolene （4.12%）, trans-i3-heptanone （2.34%）, spathulenol （1.48%）, cypermethrin were identified （1.35%） and malonic acid （1.34%）, which according to literature all these compounds have great insecticidal characteristics. Soil testing was performed according to the protocols of the S.L. Goi^nia/GO, which was found a soil poor in nutrient with acidic pH, these predominant features of the Cen：ado＇s soils, which can influence the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Concluding that Hancornia speciosa variety pubescens may have insecticidal activities.

Above-Optimum Temperature-Induced Differential Photosynthetic and Roots morphometric Responses in Two Contrasting Rice Genotypes

Temperature thresholds during the rice （Oryza sativa L.） cycle development have been reported to affect plant metabolism Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of the above-optimal temperature on photosynthetic and morphometric parameters in two contrasting irrigated rice genotypes （BRS Quer^ncia--sensitive and Nagina 22 （N22）~tolerant）. Plants of both genotypes were grown in rhizotrons and always maintained under two temperature conditions： Out--under environmental temperature conditions, and In--rhizotrons inside a plastic structure, which increased the temperature about 3 ~C to 5 ~C above the external one. In the genotype N22, there was an increase （twofold higher） in CO2 assimilation in plants cultivated under elevated temperature （In）. In BRS Quer^ncia, the stomatal conductance （gs） and transpiration rate （E） decreased upon high temperature. The rise in the temperature also negatively impacted in the modulated fluorescence parameters in both genotypes. Increases in root dry weight （RDW） and shoot dry weight （SDW） were also observed in the genotype N22 when compared to BRS Quer^ncia upon temperature rise. In general, the N22 genotype showed greater response to the above-optimal temperature due to its intrinsic thermotolerance traits over BRS Quer^ncia. Thus, N22 appeared as a potential donor of heat tolerance genes aiming to obtain new cultivar to face current global wanning.

Role of endoscopic vacuum therapy in the management of gastrointestinal transmural defects

A gastrointestinal(GI) transmural defect is defined as total rupture of the GI wall,and these defects can be divided into three categories: perforations,leaks,and fistulas. Surgical management of these defects is usually challenging and may be associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Recently,several novel endoscopic techniques have been developed,and endoscopy has become a firstline approach for therapy of these conditions. The use of endoscopic vacuum therapy(EVT) is increasing with favorable results. This technique involves endoscopic placement of a sponge connected to a nasogastric tube into the defect cavity or lumen. This promotes healing via five mechanisms,including macrodeformation,microdeformation,changes in perfusion,exudate control,and bacterial clearance,which is similar to the mechanisms in which skin wounds are treated with commonly employed wound vacuums. EVT can be used in the upper GI tract,small bowel,biliopancreatic regions,and lower GI tract,with variable success rates and a satisfactory safety profile. In this article,we review and discuss the mechanism of action,materials,techniques,efficacy,and safety of EVT in the management of patients with GI transmural defects.

Prescription of Cancer Treatment modalities in Developing Countries:Results from a multi-Centre Observational Study

Background: Treatment is an important component of a comprehensive cancer control approach and its outcomes strongly depend on infrastructure, equipment, human and financial resources available. Therefore it is imperative to generate evidence-based tools to assist health policy makers from low resourced countries in planning efficient and equitable treatment services for a defined population based on what it is feasible to these settings. methods: The intended cancer spe-cific treatment planned and written in the patients’ medical record (treatment prescription) of untreated adult cancer cases (≥18 years of age), excluding non-melanoma skin cancer, was recorded in a chronological way from 1 January 2012 onwards in a group of eight comprehensive cancer centres located in middle income countries and offering the main modalities of cancer treatment (surgery, medical oncology and radiotherapy). Results: A total of 17,713 medical records were reviewed, of which 7106 (54.2%) met the eligibility criteria. Prescription of main cancer treatment modalities were distributed as follows: 57.6% for chemotherapy (n = 4093), 56.8% for surgery (n = 4038), and 46.8% for radiotherapy (n = 3327). There was a predominance of plans consisting of combined treatment modalities over monotherapy (55.2% versus 44.8%). At the time of diagnosis 54.3% of the cancer cases had disease that had spread beyond the primary site, 41.2% were considered as having local disease and in 4.5% of the cases the information on disease extension was unknown. Conclusions: The results obtained should be seen as an approximation of cancer treatment service demand based on what it is currently practiced and therefore feasible in developing countries, particularly in middle income countries.
