20-Hydroxyecdysone from Dacrycarpus imbricatus bark inhibits the proliferation of acute myeloid leukemia cells

Objective:To investigate the anti-proliferative effects of 20-hydroxyecdysone isolated from the bark of Dacrycarpus imbricatus(Blume) de ***:Column chromatography was used for isolation of compounds from plant *** structure of the isolated compound was identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques,including HSQC,HMBC,NOE-difference *** isolated compound was tested for its anti-proliferative activity in acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and OCI-AML ***:Compound 1 was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Dacrycarpus imbricatus barks by column *** chemical structure was identified as 20-hydroxyecdysone(20HE),a cholestane-type ecdysteroid,by a combination of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric *** goal was to test the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE using the OCI-AML cell line.20 HE significantly decreased OCI cell number at a concentration of 1 mg/mL,whereas lower concentrations were ***,this decrease was due to partial blockage of the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle,with a reduction of cells in the G_2M phase,not due to increased ***:this indicates that 20 HE significantly decreases the number of cells in the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle in human AML *** is the first time that the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE against a human tumor cell line has been reported.

Is convenience really king? Comparative evaluation of catastrophic costs due to tuberculosis in the public and private healthcare sectors of Viet Nam: a longitudinal patient cost study

Background In Viet Nam, tuberculosis (TB) represents a devastating life-event with an exorbitant price tag, partly due to lost income from daily directly observed therapy in public sector care. Thus, persons with TB may seek care in the private sector for its flexibility, convenience, and privacy. Our study aimed to measure income changes, costs and catastrophic cost incurrence among TB-affected households in the public and private *** Between October 2020 and March 2022, we conducted 110 longitudinal patient cost interviews, among 50 patients privately treated for TB and 60 TB patients treated by the National TB Program (NTP) in Ha Noi, Hai phong and Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Using a local adaptation of the WHO TB patient cost survey tool, participants were interviewed during the intensive phase, continuation phase and post-treatment. We compared income levels, direct and indirect treatment costs, catastrophic costs using Wilcoxon rank-sum and chi-squared tests and associated risk factors between the two cohorts using multivariate *** The pre-treatment median monthly household income was significantly higher in the private sector versus NTP cohort (USD 868 vs USD 578;P=0.010). However, private sector treatment was also significantly costlier (USD 2075 vs USD 1313;P=0.005), driven by direct medical costs which were 4.6 times higher than costs reported by NTP participants (USD 754 vs USD 164;Pthis resulted in no significant difference in catastrophic costs between the two cohorts (Private: 55% vs NTP: 52%;P=0.675). Factors associated with catastrophic cost included being a single-person household [adjusted odds ratio [(aOR=13.71; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.36–138.14;P=0.026], unemployment during treatment (aOR=10.86; 95%CI: 2.64–44.60;P<0.001) and experiencing TB-related stigma (aOR=37.90; 95%CI: 1.72–831.73;P=0.021).Conclusions Persons with TB in Viet Nam face similarly high risk of catastrophic costs whether treated in the

Environmental Assessment of Coastal Sand Mining Using Proposed DPSIR Criteria:A Case of Hai phong

The environmental impact of coastal sand mining activities in Hai phong city was assessed using ten proposed sustainable criteria for socio-economic development,and ecological and environmental *** ten criteria were developed by the analysis of the Dynamics-Pressure-State-Impact-Response(DPSIR)framework,including one driver and pressure criterion(D and P),seven status and impact criteria(S and I),and two response criteria(R).Each criterion is quantified according to five specific evaluation criteria corresponding to the evaluation score from 1 to *** results of the ten criterion application for environmental impact assessment of coastal mining Hai phong by weighting show that the areas with economic activities,benthic biodiversity,and coastal ecosystems are most negatively impacted(score 4/5 and 3.5/5).Other subjects suffer low to moderate impacts(score 1/5 to 3/5).The environmental impact of sand mining(2015-2020)is generally moderate(score ranging from 2/5 to 3/5).The set of adjusted criteria can be applied to similar activities in coastal provinces and cities in Vietnam.

The Role of Metal-Doped into Magnetite Catalysts for the Photo-Fenton Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Recently, the incorporation of transition metals into magnetite increasing the heterogeneous Fenton catalytic activity of magnetite with high efficiency and interesting magnetic properties applied for degradation of organic pollutants in water purification and wastewater treatment have attracted more and more researchers. In this review, using of one or some metal doped magnetite based systems in heterogeneous Fenton, or photo-Fenton processes are discussed. Then, the role of metal doped species for the enhanced efficiency of degradation process is presented. Finally, possible reaction mechanism for the photo-Fenton degradation pollutants in the present of metal doped magnetite is also given.

Mollusks Resources in Western Coast of the Tonkin Gulf

It has been classed 856 species of the mollusks which belong to 120 families and five classes living in western coast of the Tonkin Gulf. The class Gastropod was the most abundant, with 449 species, the Bivalve with 368 species, the Scaphopoda with 10 species, the Cephalopods with 19 species and the Amphineura with eight species. Standing stock was estimated about 366,749 tons, that annually caught 80,000 tons. The causes of the resource depletion were human and natural, but the human factors played a key role. The fundamental orientations for developing the resources include: exploiting during harvest seasons, planning suitable aquaculture, moderate exploitation so the resources can restore themselves, combining exploitation and conservation.

The fast growth of Hai phong ports in the two last decades requires not only their upgrading facilities but also expanding port area and dredging their shipping channels(existing and new ones)that generate a huge amount of unused dredged *** all existing dumping sites in sea waters and on land get over capacity,looking for new dumping sites in sea waters is an urgent *** study is to zone coastal waters of Hai phong for suitable dumping sites meeting sustainable coastal ***-criteria overlay analysis on GIS platform was employed with the criteria of natural conditions,environment and socio-economics for zoning coastal waters of Hai *** criteria were detailed into eight subcriteria and then developed to eight GIS weighted thematic sub-layers of bottom depth,litho-hydrodynamics,ecosystems,distribution of benthos,distance to residential areas and tourist sites,distance to aquaculture area,distance to ecosystems and distance to conservation *** results show the highly suitable zone for dredged material dumping in South,South West Hai phong at depth below 15m to the deeper *** of dredged materials in the zone would minimize impacts on the environment,ecology and socio-economics in surrounding waters and coastal areas.
