Background: Pse.domonas ae.uginosa (P. ae.uginosa) is an opportunistic pathoge. that re.re.e.ts a major proble. in many hospitals be.ause.of its incre.se. re.istance.to antibiotics and the.ability to cause.nosocomial infe.tions. The.pre.e.t study aime. to phe.otype.and ge.otype.isolate. of P. ae.uginosa from inpatie.ts with UTIs at Urology and Ne.hrology ce.te., Mansoura, e.ypt to study the.r re.ate.ne.s. Me.hods: Thirty nine.isolate. of P. ae.uginosa we.e.phe.otypically type. by de.e.mination of O-se.otype. by slide.agglutination te.hnique.and antimicrobial re.istance.patte.ns by disk-diffusion me.hod. The.ge.e.ic dive.sity of isolate. was illustrate. by pe.forming RAPD-PCR using M13 prime.. Re.ults: Se.otype. O11, O6 and O10 we.e.the.most pre.ale.t. Isolate. showe. high re.istance.rate. to antipse.dmonal antibiotics with high incide.ce.(51.3%) of multidrug re.istance.(MDR). Amikacin was the.most e.fe.tive. A significant corre.ation was found be.we.n O6, O10 and MDR. A re.ative.y high polymorphism was de.onstrate. among P. ae.uginosa isolate. by using RAPD-M13 finge.printing. Cross transmission was sugge.te. by phe.otypically and clonally ide.tical isolate.. Conclusion: The.study de.onstrate. the.role.of combining both classical and mole.ular typing as a valuable.me.n to study the.origin and cross transmission of P. ae.uginosa in UTIs for be.te. asse.sme.t of tre.tme.t and infe.tion control.
