Comparative oral metagenome insight into acute and chronic root canal infections

Background:In the dynamic progression of root canal infections,the resultant change in environmental conditions directs the adaptation of the microbiome in terms of richness,evenness,and diversity.Objective:The goal of this study is to contrast the interradicular bacterial community structures of teeth in acute and chronic stages and investigate potential microorganisms associated with persistent apical periapical infections.Methods:Interradicular samples were collected from 10 teeth in the apical periodontitis group and 10 teeth in the chronic apical periodontitis group.High-throughput next-generation sequencing(NGS)–based microbial identification through the Illumina platform was used to characterize the complex intraradicular microbial communities in acute and chronic root canal infections.Results:Bacteria were the major domain,with a prevalence of>97%(acute cases:98.11%and chronic cases:97.6%)compared to eukaryotes and archaea.Bacterial diversity was relatively higher in acute compared to chronic conditions under 10 and 9 phyla,79 and 64 genera,and 172 and 135 species,respectively.These endodontically infecting bacteria belonged to Firmicutes(47.21%),Bacteroidetes(20.07%),and Proteobacteria(10.72%)in acute conditions,while in the chronic stage,Firmicutes(40.85%),Proteobacteria(27.80%),and Actinobacteria(14.79%)were abundant.The phylum Candidatus Saccharibacteria was exclusively found in acute samples.Spirochaetes and Synergistetes were found predominantly in acute infections compared to chronic infections.Bacillus and Lactobacillus were found in equal and highest abundance under the phylum Firmicutes in both conditions.Conclusion:This study provides information on the differential microbial community present in the apical root canal system of teeth with acute and chronic apical periodontitis and contributes to new approaches or channels for future research on preventive measures and therapeutic protocols during disease progression and treatment.However,functional characterization and detection of antimicrobia

Numerical modelling of post-failure behaviors of coal specimens

A modelling approach consisting of best-fit relations to estimate the post-yield strength parameters is presented for simulating post-peak behavior beyond the point of residual strength of coal pillars having different w/h ratios.The model was developed based on back-analysis of the complete stress-strain behavior of specimens belonging to six different Indian coal seams with different w/h ratios of 0.5 e13.5.It was found that the simultaneous degradation of the cohesion and friction angle of the Mohr-Coulomb rock material characterizes the post-peak strength behavior of the rock.The resulting expressions are simplistic as they require parameters that can be easily determined using uniaxial and triaxial compression results.Eventually,the developed model was validated by simulating the triaxial tests of coal specimens with different sizes under varying confining stresses and comparing its findings with the published test results.The study showed that its implementation in the numerical model could reproduce laboratory-observed mechanical response,deformation behavior,and failure mechanism very closely.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)is a unique entity marked by various etiologies and heterogenous pathophysiologies.There remain concerns regarding the efficacy of particular medications for each severity level apart from respiratory support.Among several pharmacotherapies which have been examined in the treatment of ARDS,corticosteroids,in particular,have demonstrated potential for improving the resolution of ARDS.Nevertheless,it is imperative to consider the potential adverse effects of hyperglycemia,susceptibility to hospital-acquired infections,and the development of intensive care unit acquired weakness when administering corticosteroids.Thus far,a multitude of trials spanning several decades have investigated the role of corticosteroids in ARDS.Further stringent trials are necessary to identify particular subgroups before implementing corticosteroids more widely in the treatment of ARDS.This review article provides a concise overview of the most recent evidence regarding the role and impact of corticosteroids in the management of ARDS.

Relationship between proximate analysis parameters and combustion behaviour of high ash Indian coal

This work presents the analysis of combustion characteristics of high ash Indian coal(28%-40%)collected from different mines of Singaurali coalfield,India.All the coal samples were characterized by proximate and gross calorific value analysis.Combustion performance of the coals were characterised using thermo-gravimetric analysis to identify the burning profile of individual coals.Various combustion kinetic parameters such as ignition temperature,peak temperature and burnout temperature,ignition index and burnout index,combustion performance index plus rate and intensity index of combustion process,activation energy were determined to analyse the combustion behaviour of coal.Further all these combustion properties were compared with the volatile matter,ash,fixed carbon and fuel ratio of each coal.Theoretical analysis shows that with increase in ash content,combustion performance initially increases and later descends.Further,coal with(25±1.75)%volatile matter,20%-35%ash and fuel ratio 1.4-1.5 were found to be optimum for coal combustion.

Ploughing and fertilization practices in rice-wheat system have deteriorated the soil carbon (C) pools. Conservation agriculture (CA) based management approaches have proven to enhance C sequestration and reverse the loss of soil-organic-carbon (SOC), which further enhances soil fertility. Different fractions of SOC pools react to the alterations in management practices and indicate changes in SOC dynamics as compared to total C in the soil. Higher SOC levels in soil have been observed in case of reduced/no-till (NT) practices than conventional tillage (CT). However, between CT and zero tillage/NT, total SOC stocks diminished with an increase in soil depth, which demonstrated that the benefits of SOC are more pronounced in the topsoil under NT. Soil aggregation provides physical protection to C associated with different-sized particles, thus, the improvement in soil aggregation through CA is an effective way to mitigate soil C loss. Along with less soil disturbance, residual management, suitable crop rotation, rational application of manures and fertilizers, and integrated nutrient management have been found to be effective in not only improving soil C stock but also enhancing the soil health and productivity. Thus, CA can be considered as a potential method in the build-up of SOC of soil in rice-wheat system.

EMD-Att-LSTM: A Data-driven Strategy Combined with Deep Learning for Short-term Load Forecasting

Electric load forecasting is an efficient tool for system planning, and consequently, building sustainable power systems. However, achieving desirable performance is difficult owing to the irregular, nonstationary, nonlinear, and noisy nature of the observed data. Therefore, a new attention-based encoderdecoder model is proposed, called empirical mode decomposition-attention-long short-term memory(EMD-Att-LSTM).EMD is a data-driven technique used for the decomposition of complex series into subsequent simpler series. It explores the inherent properties of data to obtain the components such as trend and seasonality. Neural network architecture driven by deep learning uses the idea of a fine-grained attention mechanism, that is, considering the hidden state instead of the hidden state vectors, which can help reflect the significance and contributions of each hidden state dimension. In addition, it is useful for locating and concentrating the relevant temporary data,leading to a distinctly interpretable network. To evaluate the proposed model, we use the repository dataset of Australian energy market operator(AEMO). The proposed architecture provides superior empirical results compared with other advanced models. It is explored using the indices of root mean square error(RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error(MAPE).

Aromatic rice is considered an important commodity in the global market because of its strong aroma and eating and cooking quality.Asian countries,such as India and Pakistan,are the leading traders of Basmati rice,whereas Thailand is the major supplier of Jasmine rice in the international market.The strong aroma of rice is associated with more than 300 volatile compounds,among which 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline(2-AP)is the principal component.2-AP is a phenotypic expression of spontaneous mutations in the recessive gene OsBadh2 or Badh2.The present review focuses on the origin,evolution and diversity of genetic resources of aromatic rice available worldwide.A brief discussion is presented on the genes responsible for quality traits along with details of their molecular genetics.This compilation and discussion will be useful for future breeding programs and the biofortification of quality traits of aromatic rice to ensure food security and nutritional need.

Mid-term follow-up of superior pubic ramus osteotomy in locked symphysis pubis with urethral injury:A case report

A locked pubic ramus body is an unusual variant of lateral compression injury.Till date,there have been only 25 cases reported in the published literature.We herein described a case where the right pubic ramus was entrapped within the opposite obturator foramen with an overlap of greater than 4 cm,with associated urethral injury.When all maneuvers of closed and instrumented reduction failed,we per-formed a superior pubic ramus osteotomy on the left side and unlocked the incarcerated right pubic ramus.The osteotomy site was stabilized with a 6-hole recon plate.The patient underwent delayed urethral repair 10 weeks after the index surgery.At 3-year follow-up,the patient has sexual dysfunction especially difficulty in maintaining erection,secondary urethral stricture,heterotopic ossification,and breakage of implants.

A Machine Learning Approach for Artifact Removal from Brain Signal

Electroencephalography(EEG),helps to analyze the neuronal activity of a human brain in the form of electrical signals with high temporal resolution in the millisecond range.To extract clean clinical information from EEG signals,it is essential to remove unwanted artifacts that are due to different causes including at the time of acquisition.In this piece of work,the authors considered the EEG signal contaminated with Electrocardiogram(ECG)artifacts that occurs mostly in cardiac patients.The clean EEG is taken from the openly available Mendeley database whereas the ECG signal is collected from the Physionet database to create artifacts in the EEG signal and verify the proposed algorithm.Being the artifactual signal is non-linear and non-stationary the Random Vector Functional Link Network(RVFLN)model is used in this case.The Machine Learning approach has taken a leading role in every field of current research and RVFLN is one of them.For the proof of adaptive nature,the model is designed with EEG as a reference and artifactual EEG as input.The peaks of ECG signals are evaluated for artifact estimation as the amplitude is higher than the EEG signal.To vary the weight and reduce the error,an exponentially weighted Recursive Least Square(RLS)algorithm is used to design the adaptive filter with the novel RVFLN model.The random vectors are considered in this model with a radial basis function to satisfy the required signal experimentation.It is found that the result is excellent in terms of Mean Square Error(MSE),Normalized Mean Square Error(NMSE),Relative Error(RE),Gain in Signal to Artifact Ratio(GSAR),Signal Noise Ratio(SNR),Information Quantity(IQ),and Improvement in Normalized Power Spectrum(INPS).Also,the proposed method is compared with the earlier methods to show its efficacy.

Genetic Dissection of Grain Size Traits Through Genome-Wide Association Study Based on Genic Markers in Rice

Grain size plays a significant role in rice,starting from affecting yield to consumer preference,which is the driving force for deep investigation and improvement of grain size characters.Quantitative inheritance makes these traits complex to breed on account of several alleles contributing to the complete trait expression.We employed genome-wide association study in an association panel of 88 rice genotypes using 142 new candidate gene based SSR(cgSSR)markers,derived from yield-related candidate genes,with the efficient mixed-model association coupled mixed linear model for dissecting complete genetic control of grain size traits.A total of 10 significant associations were identified for four grain size-related characters(grain weight,grain length,grain width,and length-width ratio).Among the identified associations,seven marker trait associations explain more than 10%of the phenotypic variation,indicating major putative QTLs for respective traits.The allelic variations at genes OsBC1L4,SHO1 and OsD2 showed association between 1000-grain weight and grain width,1000-grain weight and grain length,and grain width and length-width ratio,respectively.The cgSSR markers,associated with corresponding traits,can be utilized for direct allelic selection,while other significantly associated cgSSRs may be utilized for allelic accumulation in the breeding programs or grain size improvement.The new cgSSR markers associated with grain size related characters have a significant impact on practical plant breeding to increase the number of causative alleles for these traits through marker aided rice breeding programs.
