Bending fatigue behavior of thin Zr_(61)Ti_(2)Cu_(25)Al_(12)bulk metallic glass beams for compliant mechanisms application

In this work,bending fatigue behavior of thinner Zr_(61)Ti_(2)Cu_(25)Al_(12)(ZT1)BMG beams with thicknesses of 500μm and 100μm were investigated with three-point bending(3PB),to evaluate the reliability and safety of this potentially material used in compliant mechanisms under cyclic bending *** endurance limits(FELs)of ZT1 beams with thicknesses of 500μm and 100μm were determined to be 470 MPa,and~0.3 of its tensile *** life and FEL of ZT1 beams in bending are substantially independent of the beam thickness,in the scale from 500μm down to 100μ*** cracks of all ZT1 beams initiated at the extrinsic microvoids,either indirectly derived from surface scratches during mechanical polishing or originated from as-cast ***,fatigue crack propagation behavior is highly related to the magnitude of cyclic stress *** interrupted fatigue tests,larger proportion about 60-70%of fatigue life was spent on crack propagation under high stress level,while crack initiation occupied larger proportion about 80-85%under low stress *** medium stress level of about 590 MPa almost shared the crack-initiation life and crack-propagation *** addition,there are two crack deflection mechanisms during cracks steady propagation *** mechanism is crack deflection along the interacted shear bands ahead of crack-tip,the other one is crack"jump"from one shear band to another shear band at a certain *** two mechanisms alternate dominate the crack propagation process,generating typical staircase-like crack propagation *** endurance limits of ZT1 beams in the form of either stress amplitude or strain amplitude are superior to traditional candidate materials in the field of compliant mechanisms,showing that the better reliability and larger deflection deformation can be achieved for flexible members made by ZT1 BMG even under cyclic loading.

A novel compliant spinal fixation designed based on the concept of compliant mechanisms can reduce the stress-shielding effect and adjacent segment degeneration(ASD)effectively,but propose higher requirements for the properties of the used *** metallic glasses(BMGs),as a kind of young biomaterials,exhibiting excellent comprehensive properties,which are attractive for compliant spinal ***,according to the practical service condition of the basic elements in compliant spinal fixation,large deflection deformation behaviors of Zr_(61)Ti_(2)Cu_(25)Al_(12)(at.%,ZT1)BMG beam,including elastic,yielding and plastic were investigated *** was shown that the theoretical nonlinear analytical solution curve as the benchmark not only with the capacity to predict the nonlinear load-deflection relation within the elastic deformation regime,but also assists to capture the yielding event roughly,which can be used as a powerful design tool for *** capture the beginning of the yielding event exactly,bending proof strength(σ_(p),0.05%)accompanied with tiny permanent strain of 0.05% was proposed and determined for BMGs in biomedical implant applications,which is of significance for setting the allowable operating limits of the basic flexible *** approach of interrupted loading-unloading cycles,plastic deformation driven by the bending moment can be classified into two typical stages:the initial stage which mainly characterized by the nucleation and intense interaction of abundant shear bands when the plastic strain below the critical value,and the second stage which dominated by the progressive propagation of shear bands and coupled with the emergence of shear offsets on tensile *** plasticity of BMG beam structures depends on the BMG's inherent plastic zone size(rp).When the half beam thickness less than that of the rp,the plastic deformation of BMGs will behave in a stable manner,which can be acted as the margin of safety effectiv

Several Rules for Treating Phenol Wastewater via Oxidation by O_3/UV-formed Radicals

The treatment of phenol wastewater with an ultraviolet source and an oxone generator by introducing salicylic acid as the capturer is described. The presence of HO during the phenol degradation has been proved. The impacts of factors such as acidity and reaction time on the HO formation are also discussed. The results demonstrate that HO ＇ generated from ozone/UV oxidation under a basic condition is the immediate cause of phenol degradation. At room temperature and a pH value of 9. 93, the degradation of phenol occurs rapidly within 0. 5 rain and the removal of phe- nol（ 100 mg/L） is above 98. 5% within 15 min; in the meantime, the pH value declines gradually with the degradation of phenol. A discussion about the formation and the transformation of the intermediate products during phenol degradation is included.

Double Q-switched 946 nm laser with MgO：LN electro-optic crystal and MoSe2 saturable absorber

We report a double Q-switched 946 nm laser with a magnesium-oxide-doped liNbO3 （MgO：LN） electro-optic （EO） crystal and a monolayer molybdenum diselenide （MoSe2） saturable absorber （SA）. A pulsed laser diode side-pumped long neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet rod （φ3×65 mm） is used as the gain medium. Large pulse energy up to 3.15 mJ and peak power up to 346 kW are generated at the repetition rate of 550 Hz, corresponding to the beam quality factors of Mx^2=3.849, My^2=3.868. Monolayer MoSe2 nanosheets applied in the experiment would be a promising SA for a passive Q-switching operation.

Peritoneal cavernous hemangiomatosis:A case report

BACKGROUND Cavernous hemangiomatosis in the liver and spleen has been reported, but it occurs less commonly in the peritoneum. Here we report a case of peritoneal cavernous hemangiomatosis and share some valuable information about this *** SUMMARY A 57-year-old Chinese man had a huge abdominal mass with abdominal distention and a significant reduction of food consumption. An enhanced abdominal and pelvic computed tomography and positron emission tomography–computed tomography revealed multiple cystic masses on the peritoneum, greater omentum, small intestinal mesentery and the surface of the spleen, and a high maximum standardized uptake value of the largest cystic lesion. Exploratory laparotomy was performed, and multiple cystic masses were found on the surface of the peritoneum, greater omentum, mesentery of the small intestine, and surface of the liver and spleen. Dark red bloody cystic fluid was present in the cystic tumor. Pathological examination showed that in the stromal components, the irregular vascular wall was thin. The vessel lumen was interlinked, and the lumen was lined with flat endothelium. According to the intraoperative findings and pathologic results, the patient was diagnosed with peritoneal cavernous *** The possibility of peritoneal cavernous hemangiomatosis should be considered when multiple cystic masses are found in the abdominal cavity by preoperative examination.

Hetero-junction solar cells with an mc-Si:H window layer were achieved. The open voltage is increased while short current is decreased with increasing the mc-Si:H layer′s thickness of emitter layer. The highest of Voc of 597 mV has obtained. When fixed the thickness of 30 nm, changing the N type from amorphous silicon layer to micro-crystalline layer, the efficiency of the hetero-junction solar cells is increased. Although the hydrogen etching before deposition enables the c-Si substrates to become rough by AFM images, it enhances the formation of epitaxial-like micro-crystalline silicon and better parameters of solar cell can be obtained by implying this process. The best result of efficiency is 13.86% with the Voc of 549.8 mV, Jsc of 32.19 mA·cm-2 and the cell′s area of 1 cm2.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),which is characterized by a long-term,irreversible airway limitation and persistent respiratory symptoms,is common and *** studies have suggested that particulate matter is associated with the prevalence of COPD and the risk of *** the same time,the diurnal temperature range(DTR)has been suggested to be an adverse health factor that is especially associated with an increased risk of hospitalization in patients with COPD[1].DTR represents temperature variability within 1 day and is considered an important indicator of climate change.A few studies have shown that ambient air pollutants[particulate matter(PM)],such as PM2.5 and PM10,and high or low temperature have a synergistic effect on COPD[1].Thus,the current study determined the interaction between particulate matter(PM)and the DTR on COPD mortality and identified the vulnerable population in Weifang.

Remeasurement of the Half-life of ^(79)Se with the Projectile X-Ray Detection Method

Remeasurement of the half-life of ^(79)Se has been carried out with the projectile x-ray detection(PXD)in accelerator mass *** made two major improvements over our earlier ^(79)Se half-life determination[*** B 123(1997)403].Fristly,the PXD technique has been used for separation of ^(79)Se and 75Se from 79Br and 75As isobars ***,the half-life of ^(79)Se has been measured relative to the known precise half-life of ^(75)Se(119.79±0.04d).A more reliable half-life of ^(79)Se measured with the PXD technique is(2.95±0.38)×10^(5)y,about a factor of one lower than the previous value,1.1 × 10^(6)*** problems in the previous measurement are discussed.

Melittin induces human gastric cancer cell apoptosis via activation of mitochondrial pathway

AIM: To investigate the apoptotic effects of melittin on SGC-7901 cells via activation of the mitochondrial signaling pathway in ***: SGC-7901 cells were stimulated by melittin, and its effect on proliferation and apoptosis of was investigated by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay, morphologic structure with transmission electron microscopy, annexin-V/propidium iodide double-staining assay, measuring mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) levels, and analyzing reactive oxygen species(ROS) concentrations were analyzed by flow cytometry. Cytochrome C(Cyt C), apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF), endonuclease G(Endo G), second mitochondria-derived activator of caspases(Smac)/direct IAP binding protein with low isoelectric point(Diablo), and FAS were analyzed by western blot. The expression of caspase-3 and caspase-8 was measured using activity assay ***: Melittin was incubated at 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, or 6.0 μg/m L for 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 h and showed a timeand concentration-dependent inhibition of SGC-7901 cell growth. Melittin induced SGC-7901 cell apoptosis, which was confirmed by typical morphological changes. Treatment with 4 μg/m L melittin induced early apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells, and the early apoptosis rates were 39.97% ± 3.19%, 59.27% ± 3.94%, and 71.50% ± 2.87% vs 32.63% ± 2.75% for 1, 2, and 4 h vs 0 h(n = 3, P line L-O2 was not different from that of the control. With the addition of the caspase-3 inhibitor(Ac-DEVD-CHO), caspase-3 activity was significantly decreased compared to the control group(1067.0 ± 132.5 U/g vs 8695.7 ± 449.1 U/g). The expression
