Macroalgae are multicellular,aquatic autotrophs that play vital roles in global climate maintenance and have diverse applications in biotechnology and eco-engineering,which are directly linked to their multicellularity ***,their genomic diversity and the evolutionary mechanisms underlying multicellularity in these organisms remain *** this study,we sequenced 110 macroalgal genomes from diverse climates and phyla,and identified key genomic features that distinguish them from their microalgal *** for cell adhesion,extracellular matrix formation,cell polarity,transport,and cell differentiation distinguish macroalgae from microalgae across all three major phyla,constituting conserved and unique gene sets supporting multicellular *** genes show phylum-and climate-specific expansions that may facilitate niche ***,our study reveals genetic determinants of convergent and divergent evolutionary trajectories that have shaped morphological diversity in macroalgae and provides genome-wide frameworks to understand photosynthetic multicellular evolution in aquatic environments.

Sequential Analysis in the Identification of 3rd Order System Tract in the Abidjan Margin

The use of sequential stratigraphy concept, based on well logs, sedimentology, and biostratigraphy, has shed light on the complex mechanisms controlling sedimentary accumulations. consequently, identifying these mechanisms allows us to predict the hydrocarbon generation potential of source rocks. In the Ivorian offshore sedimentary basin, certain studies have contributed to understanding and characterizing the petroleum system. However, these previous works did not integrate biostratigraphic data to highlight sedimentary facies. This study, conducted on two wells in the Abidjan margin, is crucial as it helps us comprehend the geometry of fossil sediments in relation to sea level variations. It will also aid in reconstructing the basin-filling history and predicting the distribution of rocks capable of trapping oil, determining lowstand systems tracts (reservoir rocks), transgressive systems tracts, and highstand systems tracts (cap rocks). Lithological analysis revealed predominantly clayey sedimentation with sandy layers. Well log data facilitated the delineation of formation boundaries and highlighted reservoirs consisting of sands, sandstones, limestones, and occasionally intercalated shales. Integrating these analysis results with biostratigraphic interpretations based on foraminifera and palynomorphs revealed that the traversed formations were deposited in a transitional environment ranging from coniacian to Maastrichtian ages. Applying sequential stratigraphy concept from well logging resolved dating issues encountered in microfossil-poor or microfossil-free zones. The results of the coniacian-Maastrichtian age sequential subdivision were aligned with the chart.

Interleukin-6(IL-6)-deficient mice are prone to ethanol-induced apoptosis and steatosis in the liver;however, the underlying mechanism is not fully *** dysfunction caused by oxidative stress is an early event that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver ***,we hypothesize that the protective role of IL-6 in ethanol-induced liver injury is mediated via suppression of ethanol-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial *** test this hypothesis,we examined the effects of IL-6 on ethanol-induced oxidative stress,mitochondrial injury,and energy depletion in the livers of IL-6(-/-)mice and hepatocytes from ethanol-fed *** consumption leads to stronger induction of malondialdehyde(MDA) in IL-6(-/-)mice compared to wild-type control mice,which can be corrected by administration of *** vitro, IL-6 treatment prevents ethanol-mediated induction of reactive oxygen species(ROS),MDA,mitochondrial permeability transition(MPT),and ethanol-mediated depletion of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)in hepatocytes from ethanol-fed *** of IL-6 in vivo also reverses ethanol-induced MDA and ATP depletion in ***,IL-6 treatment induces metallothionein protein expression,but not superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in cultured *** conclusion,IL-6 protects against ethanol-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in hepatocytes via induction of metailothionein protein expression,which may account for the protective role of IL-6 in alcoholic liver *** & Molecular Immunology.2004;1(3):205-211.

Background and Aims:The role of miR-34a in hepatocellular carcinoma (Hcc) is controversial and several unresolved issues remain,including its expression pattern and relevance to tumor etiology,tumor stage and prognosis,and finally,its impact on ***:miR-34a expression was assessed in hepatitis c virus (HcV)-induced non-metastatic Hcc tissues by ***-7 cells were transfected with miR-34a mimics and the impact of miR-34a was examined on 84 pro-apoptotic/anti-apoptotic genes using PcR array;its net effect was tested on cell viability via ***:miR-34a expression was up-regulated in Hcc ***,miR-34a induced a large set of pro-apoptotic/anti-apoptotic genes,with a net result of triggering apoptosis and repressing cell ***:Hcc-related differential expression of miR-34a could be etiology-based or stage-specific,and low expression of miR-34a may predict poor *** study's findings also emphasize the role of miR-34a in apoptosis.

Postoperative Mechanical Axis Alignment and components Position after conventional and Patient-Specific Total Knee Arthroplasty

Introduction: Accurate postoperative alignment and implant positioning are determinant factors for successful total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Patient-specific template (PST) is a technique that uses computer technology for the planning, deigning and production of cutting guides. This study aims to compare PST to conventional technique in terms of mechanical axis alignment and component positioning. Patients and method: 109 TKA were performed for 78 patients in 2 groups. Group A included 69 conventional TKA in 55 patients and Group B included 40 patient-specific TKA in 23 patient. Postoperative long-film X-rays were done for all patients to observe the mechanical axis, anatomical axis, lateral distal femoral mechanical angle and medial proximal tibial angle. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups regarding alignment or component positioning. conclusion: Both techniques have shown similar results in restoring the mechanical axis and alignment after TKA. However, PST had the advantages of reduced blood loss and shorter operative time.

Design Methodology of a Micro-Scale 2-DOF Energy Harvesting Device for Low Frequency and Wide Bandwidth

A detailed design methodology of a micro-scale 2-DOF energy harvesting device that can harvest human motion energy of low frequency and wide bandwidth is developed. Based on the concept of the 2-DOF vibration absorber, device parameters are selected to harvest energy at low frequency of 1-10 Hz and wide bandwidth with ±20% of the mean frequency, which matches the human motion. The device dimensions are limited to 40 × 30 × 10 mm3 to fit with the human wrist size. Then, a finite element model is developed to investigate the system performance with the selected parameters. When subjected to harmonic excitation of 1 g, the proposed 2-DOF device is able to provide a power of at least 10 μW in between the two close resonant peaks of 4 Hz and 6 Hz, which is the target frequency range. The device shows very high power per square frequency compared with the reported harvesters.

Prevalence of cerebral Atherosclerosis among Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: A case control Study on Egyptian Subjects

Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a clustering of vascular risk factors that tend to increase the risk of occurrence of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2), cardiovascular and cerebro-vascular ischemic events. The aim of the present study is to investigate the association of extra-cranial and intracranial arterial atherosclerosis as well as silent brain infarction (SBI) with MetS, thereby determining the potential cerebrovascular atherosclerotic risk of MetS in the Egyptian population. Methods: A case control study was conducted on 50 Egyptian subjects with MetS and 30 without with age range from 40 - 60 years old. All participants were free from cerebrovascular ischemic events [stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)]. All participants underwent complete neurological examination, assessment of the diagnostic criteria for MetS, carotid and transcranial duplex ultrasonography (U/S) and brain MRI. Results: Preclinical carotid atherosclerosis (athero-sclerotic plaques with ciated with MetS (P value = 0.02) that persisted after adjustment for age and other confounders. There was no significant association between increased intima media thickness (IMT) and MetS. There was non-significant association between MetS and intracranial atherosclerotic disease (IcAD) or the degree of intracranial stenosis (IcS). conversely, there was a highly significant association between MetS and SBI even after adjustment for age and other confounders (P value = 0.001). conclusion: Metabolic syndrome is an important factor associated with mild to moderate atherosclerosis (cts among asymptomatic individuals. Interventions to reduce MetS are important for prevention of subclinical and clinical cerebral atherosclerotic disease.
