Long-read sequencing with nanopore technology has been widely utilized for the identification of the full-length sequence of RNA molecules."It is especially suitable for the identification of circular RNAs(circRNAs),which are regulatory molecules that are regarded as promising non-invasive biomarkers for various human malignancies,including breast cancer.2 The impact of circRNAs derived from the protein arginine methyltransferase 1(PRMT1)gene has not been clarified yet,even though the effect of PRMT1-mediated methylation on breast cancer cell characteristics has been well established.

The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of intact rock is one of the most important parameters required and determined for rock mechanics studies in engineering *** limitations and difficulty of conducting tests on rocks,specifically on thinly bedded,highly fractured,highly porous and weak rocks,as well as the fact that these tests are destructive,expensive and time-consuming,lead to development of soft computing-based *** of artificial neural networks(ANNs)for predicting UCS has become an attractive alternative for geotechnical engineering *** this study,an ANN was designed with the aim of indirectly predicting UCS through the serpentinization percentage,and physical,dynamic and mechanical characteristics of *** this purpose,data obtained in earlier experimental work from central Greece were *** ANN-based results were compared with the experimental ones and those obtained from previous *** proposed ANN-based formula was found to be very efficient in predicting UCS values and the samples could be classified with simple physical,dynamic and mechanical tests,thus the expensive,difficult,time-consuming and destructive mechanical tests could be avoided.

The concept of textbook outcome (TO) has recently gained popularity in surgicalresearch and has been used to evaluate the quality or success of different surgicalprocedures, including hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) operations. TO consists ofindividual outcome parameters that each reflect different domains of careincluding structure, process, and individual outcomes;in turn, the composite TOmetric represents the optimal course after a surgical episode. TO can be used toassess patient-level outcomes, hospital performance, center designation andquality metrics. In addition to being an outcome measurement, TO may also belinked to healthcare costs. Future efforts should be directed towards establishing auniversal definition of TO in HPB surgery so that surgeons and hospitals canassess and compare outcomes, identify shortcomings and improve real worldpatient outcomes.

The increasing use of digital video everyday in a multitude of electronic devices, including mobile phones, tablets and laptops, poses the need for quick development of cross-platform video software. However current approaches to this direction usually require a long learning curve, and their development lacks standardization. This results in software components that are difficult to reuse, and hard to maintain or extend. In order to overcome such issues, we propose a novel object-oriented framework for efficient development of software systems for video analysis. It consists of a set of four abstract components, suitable for the implementation of independent plug-in modules for video acquisition, preprocessing, analysis and output handling. The extensibility of each module can be facilitated by sub-modules specifying additional functionalities. This architecture enables quick responses to changes and re-configurability;thus conforming to the requirements of agile software development practices. Considering the need for platform independency, the proposed Java Video Analysis (JVA) framework is implemented in Java. It is publicly available through the web as open-access software, supported by a growing collection of implemented modules. Its efficiency is empirically validated for the development of a representative video analysis system.

As it is commonly known,the estimation of physical and mechanical characteristics of rocks is very important issue in various geotechnical *** characteristics are mainly influenced by the microfabric-texture features of *** this research,dry unit weight,effective porosity,point load index,Schmidt rebound hardness,uniaxial compressive strength,and texture coefficient were measured with the aim of correlating the physical and mechanical properties to the texture *** this purpose,a comprehensive laboratory testing program was conducted after collecting twenty sedimentary block samples including nine limestones and eleven mudstones,taken from kalidromo(central Greece)in accordance with ASTM and ISRM ***,mineralogical and petrographic properties,textural characteristics as well as X-ray diffractions were studied and the obtained results were statistically described and *** maximum and minimum values of the texture coefficient were 0.13 and 0.50,*** highest value was obtained for the rocks with a large amount of *** analyses were used to investigate the relationships between the texture coefficient and the engineering ***,empirical equations were developed and because of the good determination coefficients,they showed that all of the engineering properties were well correlated to the texture coefficient.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma(ESOS)is an uncommon tumor that accounts for 1% of all soft tissue sarcomas and 4% of all osteosarcomas. Its presentation may be atypical,while pain has been described as the most common symptom. Radiological findings include a large mass in the soft-tissues with massive calcifications,but no attachment to the adjacent bone or periosteum. We present the case of a 73-year-old gentle man who presented with a palpable,tender abdominal mass and symptoms of bowel obstruction. Computer tomography images revealed a large space-occupying heterogeneous,hyper dense soft tissue mass involving the small intestine. Explorative laparotomy revealed a large mass in the upper mesenteric root of the small intestine,measuring 22 cm × 12 cm × 10 cm in close proximity with the cecum,which was the cause of the bowel obstruction. Pathology confirmed the diagnosis of an ESOS. ESOS is an uncommon malignant soft tissue tumor with poor prognosis and a 5-year survival rate of less than 37%. Regional recurrence and distant metastasis to lungs,regional lymph nodes and liver can occur within the first three years of diagnosis in a high rate(45% and 65% respectively). Wide surgical resection of the mass followed by adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy has been the treatment of choice.

BACkGROUND Non-albicans Candida prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are rare. Optimal treatment involves a two-stage revision surgery in combination with an antifungal agent. However, no clear guidelines have been developed regarding the agent or treatment duration. Hence, a broad range of antifungal and surgical treatments have been reported so far. AIM To clarify treatment of non-albicans Candida PJIs. METHODS A literature review of all existing non-albicans Candida PJIs cases through April 2018 was conducted. Information was extracted about demographics, comorbidities, responsible species, duration and type of antifungal treatment, type of surgical treatment, time between initial arthroplasty and symptom onset, time between symptom onset and definite diagnosis, outcome of the infection and follow-up. RESULTS A total of 83 cases, with a mean age of 66.3 years, were located. The causative yeast isolated in most cases was C. parapsilosis (45 cases;54.2%), followed by C. glabrata (18 cases;21.7%). The mean Charlson comorbidity index was 4.4 ± 1.5. The mean time from arthropalsty to symptom onset was 27.2 ± 43 mo, while the mean time from symptom onset to culture-confirmed diagnosis was 7.5 ± 12.5 mo. A two stage revision arthroplasty (TSRA), when compared to one stage revision arthroplasty, had a higher success rate (96% vs 73%, P = 0.023). Fluconazole was the preferred antifungal agent (59;71%), followed by amphotericin B (41;49.4%). CONCLUSION The combination of TSRA and administration of prolonged antifungal therapy after initial resection arthroplasty is suggested on the basis of limited data.
