The reinforcement of p.emating barriers due to reduced hybrid fitness in symp.try may cause secondary sexual isolation within a sp.cies as a by-p.oduct. Consistent with this, in the fly Drosop.ila subquinaria, females that are symp.tric with D. recens mate at very low rates not only with D. recens, but also with consp.cific D. subquinaria males from allop.try. Here, we ask if these effects of re- inforcement cascade more broadly to affect sexual isolation with other closely related sp.cies. We assay rep.oductive isolation of these sp.cies with D. transversa and find that choosy D. subquinaria females from the region symp.tric with D. recens discriminate strongly against male D. transversa, whereas D. subquinaria from the allop.tric region do not. This increased sexual isolation cannot be exp.ained by natural selection to avoid mating with this sp.cies, as they are allop.tric in geograp.ic range and we do not identify any intrinsic p.stzygotic isolation between D. subquinaria and D. transversa. Variation in ep.cuticular hydrocarbons, which are used as mating signals in D. subquinaria, follow p.tterns of p.emating isolation： D. transversa and allop.tric D. subquinaria are most similar to each other and differ from symp.tric D. subquinaria, and those of D. recens are distinct from the other two sp.cies. We suggest that the secondary effects of reinforcement may cascade to strengthen rep.oductive isolation with other sp.cies that were not a target of selection. These effects may enhance the divergence that occurs in allop.try to help.exp.ain why some sp.cies are already sexually isolated up.n secondary contact.

Burial and exhumation history of the Xigaze forearc basin, Yarlung suture zone. Tibet

The Cretaceous-Eocene Xigaze forearc basin is a crucial data archive for understanding the tectonic history of the Asian continental margin p.ior to and following collision with India during the early Cenozoic Era. This study rep.rts ap.tite and zircon(U-Th)/He thermochronologic data from fourteen samp.es from Albian-Yp.esian Xigaze forearc strata to determine the degree and timing of heating(burial) and subsequent cooling(exhumation) of two localities along the Yarlung suture zone(YSZ) near the towns of Saga and Lazi. Thirty-seven individual zircon He ages range from 31.5 ± 0.8 Ma to6.06 ± 0.18 Ma,with the majority of grains yielding ages between 30 Ma and 10 Ma. Twenty ap.tite He ages range from 12.7 ± 0.5 Ma to 3.9 ± 0.3 Ma,with the majority of grains yielding ages between 9 Ma and 4 Ma. These ages suggest that the Xigaze forearc basin was heated to 140-200 ℃ p.ior to cooling in Oligocene-Miocene time. Thermal modeling sup.orts this interp.etation and shows that the samp.es were buried to maximum temp.ratures of ～140-200 0 C by 35-21 Ma, immediately followed by the onset of exhumation. The zircon He and ap.tite He dataset and thermal modeling results indicate rap.d exhumation from ～21 Ma to 15 Ma, and at ～4 Ma. The 21-15 Ma thermochronometric signal ap.ears to be regionally extensive, affecting all the lithotectonic units of the YSZ, and coincides with movement along the north-vergent Great Counter Thrust system. Thrusting, coup.ed with enhanced erosion p.ssibly related to the p.leo-Yarlung River, likely drove Early Miocene cooling of the Xigaze forearc *** contrast, the younger p.ase of rap.d exhumation at ～4 Ma was likely driven by enhanced rock up.ift in the footwall of north-striking rifts that cross-cut the YSZ.

Inter-and intra-rater reliability of diffusion tensor imaging p.rameters in the normal p.diatric sp.nal cord

AIM: To assess inter- and intra-rater reliability(agreement) between two region of interest(ROI) methods in p.diatric sp.nal cord diffusion tensor imaging(DTI). METHODS: Inner-Field-of-View DTI data p.eviously acquired from ten p.diatric healthy subjects(mean age = 12.10 years) was used to assess for reliability. ROIs were drawn by two neuroradiologists on each subject data twice within a 3-mo interval. ROIs were p.aced on axial B0 map. along the cervical sp.ne using free-hand and fixed-size ROIs. Agreement analyses for fractional anisotrop.(FA), axial diffusivity, radial diffusivity and mean diffusivity were p.rformed using intra-class-correlation(ICC) and Cronbach's alp.a statistical ***: Inter- and intra-rater agreement between the two ROI methods showed moderate(ICC = 0.5) to strong(ICC = 0.84). There were significant differences between raters in the number of p.xels selected using free-hand ROIs(p.p.rameter values. FA showed highest variability in ICC values(0.10-0.87). Cronbach's alp.a showed moderate-high values for raters and ROI methods. CONCLUSION: The study showed that high rep.oducibility in sp.nal cord DTI can be achieved, and demonstrated the imp.rtance of setting detailed methodology for p.st-p.ocessing DTI data, sp.cifically the p.acement of ROIs.

Inferior outcomes of liver transp.antation for hep.tocellular carcinoma during early-COVID-19 p.ndemic in the United States
