In high seismic zone regions, slender reinforced concrete structural walls are commonly used in high-rise buildings as a main lateral load resisting element. These walls are very effective in limiting the lateral drift of the building due to their large in-plane stiffness. However, the presence of floor slabs influences the behavior of the shear wall. Also, the current design requirements do not account for the presence of floor slabs. To understand the behavior of wall-slab junctions and address the shortcomings of the current design requirements, the influence of two parameters, namely(a) aspect ratio and(b) longitudinal reinforcement ratio on the behavior is studied numerically. It is observed that the presence of floor slabs at different levels tends to partition the wall into squat wall panels between two consecutive floors. The wall-slab junctions show large stress concentrations arising from the strut action in the squat panels. It is also observed that the floor slabs can get significantly damaged near the wall-slab junction for lower vertical reinforcement ratios in the wall. Thus, the current codeprescribed minimum reinforcement in shear walls is not sufficient and needs to be revisited at for improved performance.

The seismotectonic characteristics of ten repeated earthquake swarm sequence within a seismic cluster along Jiali Fault in eastern Himalayan Syntaxis(EHS) have been *** swarms are spatially disposed in and around Yigong Lake(a natural lake formed by blocking of Yigong River by landslide) and are characterized by low magnitude,crustal events with low to moderate b ***:mb discriminant functions though indicate anomalous nature of the earthquakes within swarm but are considered as natural events that occurred under condition of high apparent stress and stress *** fault plane solutions of selected swarms indicate strike-slip sense of shear on fault planes;solution parameters show low plunging compression and tensional axes along NW-SE and NE-SW respectively with causative fault plane oriented *** steeply towards south or *** fault plane is in excellent agreement with the disposition and tectonic movement registered by right lateral Jiali *** process of pore pressure perturbation and resultant ’r—t plot’ with modelled diffusivity(D = 0.12 m^2/s) relates the diffusion of pore pressure to seismic sequence in a fractured poro-elastic fluid saturated medium at average crustal depth of 15-20 *** low diffusivity depicts a highly fractured interconnected medium that is generated due to high stress activity near the eastern syntaxial bent of *** is proposed that hydro fracturing with respect to periodic pore pressure variations is responsible for generation of swarms in the *** fluid pressure generated due to shearing and infiltrations of surface water within dilated seismogenic fault(Jiali Fault) are causative factors.

Incentive design is among the decisive factors behind active community participation and long-term sustainability of participatory forest management. Especially in case of mangroves, where multiple interests apply, it requires a careful integration of several ecological, economic and institutional factors. The primary objective of this paper is to understand the basis of incentive design and make a comprehensive inquiry into the existing incentive mechanism of participatory mangrove management in Indian Sundarbans. The qualitative and in-depth assessment was derived against a conceptual framework that contains three main determinants: (1) resources availability, (2) control mechanism, and (3) perception of end-users. The study deploys the results of various participatory exercises such as structured interviews with forest officials, focus group discussions with 10 Joint Forest Management Committees and semi-structured interviews with 119 mangrove users. In general, we observed an over-cautious, hierarchical and safety-margin-based incentive design with distinct bifurcation of communities over the adequacy and effectiveness of derived benefits. Although, the incentives are diverse and align well with the overall conservation of mangroves, they are considered to be insufficient by nearly half of the mangrove users. The main issues that were observed to hinder effective community participation can be summarized as (1) serious restrictions on access to economically exploitable mangrove products, (2) passive involvement of vulnerable occupational groups, and (3) lack of trust and conflicting interests between the officials and the communities. Although the existing preventive management of mangroves can be justified considering the magnanimity of the Indian Sundarbans, it can severely impair community participation and emerge as a clear threat to future sustainability. This article describes a novel approach for deciding optimal horizontal extent of soil domain to be used for finite element based numerical dynamic soil structure interaction(SSI)*** model for a 12 storied building frame,supported on pile foundation-soil system,is developed in the finite element based software framework,*** different structure-foundation configurations are analyzed under different ground motion *** extent of soil domain,along with the soil properties,were varied exhaustively for a particular structural *** on the reduction in the variation of acceleration response at different locations in the SSI system(quantified by normalized root mean square error,NRMSE),the optimum lateral extent of the soil domain is prescribed for various structural widths,soil types and peak ground acceleration levels of ground *** to the past studies,error estimation analysis shows that the relationships prescribed in the present study are credible and more inclusive of the various factors that influence *** relationships can be readily applied for deciding upon the lateral extent of the soil domain for conducting precise SSI analysis with reduced computational time.

Objective:To evaluate the protective effect of benzydamine hydrochloride against ethanol-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in RAW 264.7 ***:RAW 264.7 macrophages were treated with ethanol(100 mM)and benzydamine hydrochloride(7.5μM).The imflammatory status was confirmed by measuring pro-(TNF-αand IL-6)and anti-inflammatory(IL-10)cytokines through ELISA and RT-PCR *** oxygen species generation and mitochondrial membrane potential were investigated to study the protective role of benzydamine hydrochloride against ethanol-induced oxidative *** detection was also investigated using flow cytometry and acridine orange/ethidium bromide ***:Benzydamine hydrochloride significantly decreased the secretion of TNF-αand IL-6,as well as the generation of reactive oxygen species inside the cells,thereby stabilizing the mitochondrial membrane potential and reducing DNA *** ethanol-induced cellular necrosis was also reversed by the administration of benzydamine ***:Benzydamine hydrochloride ameliorates ethanol-induced cell apoptosis and inflammation in RAW macrophages.

We analyze the energy performance of a complete adiabatic circuit/system including the Power Clock Generator （PCG） at the 90 nm CMOS technology node. The energy performance in terms of the conversion efficiency of the PCG is extensively carried out under the variations of supply voltage, process comer and the driver transistor＇s width. We propose an energy-efficient singe cycle control circuit based on the two-stage comparator for the synchronous charge recovery sinusoidal power clock generator （PCG）. The proposed PCG is used to drive the 4-bit adiabatic Ripple Carry Adder （RCA） and their simulation results are compared with the adiabatic RCA driven by the reported PCG. We have also simulated the logically equivalent static CMOS RCA circuit to compare the energy saving of adiabatic and non-adiabatic logic circuits. In the clock frequency range from 25 MHz to 1GHz, the proposed PCG gives a maximum conversion efficiency of 56.48%. This research work shows how the design of an efficient PCG increases the energy saving of adiabatic logic.

The Chhasra Formation(CF)of Kutch Basin exemplifies a typical mixed siliciclastic-carbonate system with alternations of biostromal carbonate and fine-grained siliciclastic *** CF is subdivided into two members:the lower Claystone(CM)and the upper Siltstone(SM)*** CM outcrops(P1-P3)comprising buried palaeosols that formed under a specific environmental set-up involving imperfectly to poorly drained conditions,are exposed along the Berwali *** biostromal carbonate beds,alternating with the palaeosols,contain invertebrate bioclasts(bivalves,gastropods,echinoids,etc.)and are characterized by a paucispecific firmground Thalassinoides *** section P1,below the contact between the underlying palaeosol and overlying carbonate,Thalassinoides transforms into firmground Gyrolithes inside the palaeosol forming a compound *** palaeosol intervals of sections P1 and P2 consist of a Vondrichnus-Termitichnus-root trace ichnofabric defining the Termitichnus *** section P3,lenses of fully bioturbated siltstones with a monospecific firmground Thalassinoides ichnofabric can be observed within an overall silty palaeosol horizon,thereby,locally cross-cutting the pedogenic *** ichnofabrics of section P3 indicate polyphase pedogenesis with three stages:(1)initial stage:pedogenesis in siltstone of undefined depositional affinity which was obscured by pedogenic processes,(2)transient stage:recurring marine incursions and colonization by crustaceans within the lens-shaped palaeotopographic depressions overprinting the palaeosol,and(3)final stage:subaerial exposure and another preserved phase of *** CM shows an apparent low-order T-R(transgressive-regressive)cyclicity within a 3rd-order TST(transgressive systems tract)that is supported by pedogenic intensity,ichnofabrics,and reciprocal sedimentation near the Miocene basin margin,though the cyclicity can be the result of both autogenic and/or lowerorder allogenic changes.

This paper presents an analytical model to study the scaling trends in energy recovery *** energy performance of conventional CMOS and energy recovery logic are compared with scaling the design and technology parameters such as supply voltage,device threshold voltage and gate oxide *** proposed analytical model is validated with simulation results at 90 nm and 65 nm CMOS technology nodes and predicts the scaling behavior accurately that help us to design an energy-efficient CMOS digital circuit design at the *** research work shows the adiabatic switching as an ultra-low-power circuit technique for sub-100 nm digital CMOS circuit applications.

Pushover analysis of underground structures:Method and application

Pushover analysis is common because of its conceptual simplicity and computational attractiveness in computing seismic *** that traditional pushover analysis is restricted in underground structures due to the stark differences in the seismic response characteristics of surface structures,this paper proposes a pushover analysis method for underground structures and its application in seismic damage ***,three types of force distribution are presented based on ground response ***,the target displacements and analysis models are established according to force-based and performance-based ***,the pushover analysis procedure for underground structures is ***,the applicability of pushover analysis to underground structures is verified by comparing the responses of a Chongwenmen subway station determined by the proposed procedure and by nonlinear response history *** addition,two other points are made:that the inverted triangular distribution of effective earthquake acceleration is more practical than the other two distributions,and that performance-based design is more effective than force-based ***,a cyclic reversal loading pattern based on one cycle of reversal loads as an earthquake event is presented and applied to the seismic damage assessment of underground *** results show that the proposed pushover analysis can be effectively applied to the seismic design and damage assessment of underground structures.
