The resonant frequency of metamaterials structured with split ring resonator(SRR) meta-atoms is determined primarily through the capacitance and inductance of the individual meta-atoms. Two designs that vary inductance incrementally were modeled, simulated, fabricated, and tested to investigate the role inductance plays in metamaterial designs. The designs consisted of strategically adding sections to the SRR to increase the inductance, but in a manner that minimized capacitance variations. Each design showed a shift in resonant frequency that was proportional to the length of the added section. As the length of each section was increased, the resonant frequency shifted from 2.78 GHz to 2.18 GHz.

Background Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) treatment of refractory urinary symptoms is associated with quality of life improvements using disease-specific instruments. There is a paucity of information relating universal health outcomes to effective treatment of urinary symptoms. The objective was to analyze changes in Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) item-bank scores following SNM for treating refractory lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).Materials and methods This is a sub-analysis collected from an institutional review board approved, retrospective chart review evaluating changes between pre- and post-procedure PROMIS scores in subjects undergoing successful SNM implantation for refractory LUTS at a multidisciplinary adult continence clinic. The difference between pre- and post-procedure PROMIS scores was compared via two-sided Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with p jects, most were female (89.66%), Caucasian (68.97%), nonsmokers (89.66%) with public insurance (62.07%). The median age was 63years and body mass index was 33.2kg/m2. Procedure indications included urinary urge incontinence (83%), mixed urinary incontinence (10%), retention (17.24%), and overactive bladder (3%). Pain Interference and Depression scores had a nonsignificant improvement from 64.2 (ranging 58.9–67.5) to 60.75 (ranging 55.2–67.2), p = 0.21, and 55.2 (ranging 51.5–59.9) to 53.4 (ranging 49.5–61.1), p = 0.33, respectively. Median Physical Function scores demonstrated nonsignificant worsening following implantation from 38.0 (ranging 34.7–40.9) to 36.1 (ranging 33.1–40.8) (p = 0.25). Aquaculture ponds are dominant features of the landscape in the coastal zone of ***,aquaculture ponds are drained during the non-culture period in ***,the effects of such drainage on the production and flux of greenhouse gases（GHGs）from aquaculture ponds are largely *** the present study,field-based research was performed to compare the GHG fluxes between one drained pond（DP,with a water depth of 0.05 m）and one undrained pond（UDP,with a water depth of 1.16 m）during one winter in the Min River estuary of southeast *** the entire study period,the mean CO2flux in the DP was（0.75±0.12）mmol/（m^2·hr）,which was significantly higher than that in the UDP of（-0.49±0.09）mmol/（m^2·hr）（p0.01）.This indicates that drainage drastically transforms aquaculture ponds from a net sink to a net source of CO2in *** CH4and N2O emissions were significantly higher in the DP compared to those in the UDP（CH4=（0.66±0.31）vs.（0.07±0.06）mmol/（m^2·hr）and N2O=（19.54±2.08）vs.（0.01±0.04）μmol/（m^2·hr））（p〈0.01）,suggesting that drainage would also significantly enhance CH4and N2O *** in environmental variables（including sediment temperature,p H,salinity,redox status,and water depth）contributed significantly to the enhanced GHG emissions following pond ***,analysis of the sustained-flux global warming and cooling potentials indicated that the combined global warming potentials of the GHG fluxes were significantly higher in the DP than in the UDP（p〈0.01）,with values of739.18 and 26.46 mg CO2-eq/（m^2·hr）,*** findings suggested that drainage of aquaculture ponds can increase the emissions of potent GHGs from the coastal zone of China to the atmosphere during winter,further aggravating the problem of global warming.

This paper presents the results of thermal comfort and air quality studies in naturally ventilated residential buildings in Kampala City,*** surveys were used for obtaining occupant subjective thermal sensation *** and outdoor measurements for air temperature(T_(a)),Mean Radiant Temperature(MRT),relative humidity,air speed,and air quality were done for seven buildings over fifteen days during the month of june *** software was used to develop the reference building model and to simulate strategies for improvement of thermal *** results showed that 67.8%of the respondents were comfortable with the indoor thermal *** indoor air temperature range was 22.7℃-27.9℃ which lies within the 80%acceptable limits set by ASHRAE *** measured indoor MRT range was 24.24℃-25.57℃.Measured levels of indoor PM_(2.5)were double the World Health Organization recommended limits,while the levels of PM 10 were thrice the recommended limits of ASHRAE *** CO_(2)concentrations were within the limits set by ASHRAE *** developed model predicted comfortable indoor conditions with a temperature range of 23.6℃-25.3℃ based on the 80%acceptable limits set by ASHRAE *** results show that majority of occupants preferred cooler temperatures during the day which is justified by the use of adaptive measures to obtain thermal comfort.

Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions from aquatic ecosystems are important components of the global carbon cycle,yet the CO_(2)emissions from coastal reservoirs,especially in developing countries where urbanization and rapid land use change occur,are still poorly *** this study,the spatiotemporal variations in CO_(2)concentrations and fluxes were investigated in Wenwusha Reservoir located in the southeast coast of ***,the mean CO_(2)concentration and flux across the whole reservoir were 41.85±2.03μmol/L and 2.87±0.29 mmol/m2/h,respectively,and the reservoir was a consistent net CO_(2)source over the entire *** land use types and urbanization levels in the reservoir catchment significantly affected the input of exogenous carbon *** mean CO_(2)fluxwasmuch higher from waters adjacent to the urban land(5.05±0.87 mmol/m2/hr)than other land use *** with larger input of exogenous substance via sewage discharge and upstream runoff were often the hotspots of CO_(2)emission in the *** results suggested that urbanization process,agricultural activities,and large input of exogenous carbon could result in large spatial heterogeneity of CO_(2)emissions and alter the CO_(2)biogeochemical cycling in coastal *** studies should characterize the diurnal variations,microbial mechanisms,and impact of meteorological conditions on reservoir CO_(2)emissions to expand our understanding of the carbon cycle in aquatic ecosystems.
