Mapping forest fire risk zones with spatial data and principal component analysis

By integrating forest inventory data with remotely sensed data, new data layers for factors that affect forest fire potentials were generated for Baihe Forestry Bureau in Jilin Province of china. The principle component analysis was used to sort out the relationships between forest fire potentials and environmental factors. The classifications of these factors were performed with GIS, generating three maps: a fuel-based fire risk map, a topography-based fire risk map, and an anthropogenic-factor fire risk map. These three maps were then synthesized to generate the final fire risk map. The linear regression method was used to analyze the relationship between an area-weighted value of forest fire risks and the frequency of historical forest fires at each forest farm. The results showed that the most important factor contributing to forest fire ignition was topography, followed by anthropogenic factors.

Forests in the Changbai Mountains are important timber sources for economic development of the society and provide ecological services in northeast china. In order to strengthen forest resource management, this paper analyzed management-induced changes in forest structure, tree species composition and forest landscape pattern from 1987 to 2000 for Baihe Forestry Bureau in Jilin Province based on digitized forest parcel maps and forest survey data. The results suggested that the area of Mature, High-Stocking, and Close-Canopy Forests decreased by 31.4%, 55.9% and 10.7% respectively; volume of Mixed Forest, the native forest vegetation type, decreased by 17.8%;the number of patches increased tremendously but the mean patch density decreased sharply for Mature, High-Stocking, Close-Canopy, and Mixed Forests. All the changes in forest structure, species composition, and landscape pattern indicated severe degradations going on with the forests in Baihe Forestry Bureau. Because of the effect of degradation to forest services, restoring forest resources and protecting biodiversity has become urgently important. The strategies of sustainable forest management need to be worked out and implemented.

Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is one of the major microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of end-stage renal disease(ESRD).The pathogenesis of DN is unknown,but it is closely related to disorders of glucolipid metabolism,abnormal hemodynamics,chronic inflammatory response,oxidative stress,and *** DN develops into ESRD,it is often more difficult to treat than ESRD caused by other kidney ***,a deeper knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms of DN and the discovery of candidate markers for early diagnosis are *** secreted by renal cells can regulate a series of pathophysiological processes such as translation and transcription by releasing miRNAs or proteins,thereby regulating the biological functions and phenotype of recipient kidney *** has been found that miRNA secreted by urinary exosomes in patients with DN is involved in the occurrence and development of DN and may become biological markers.1 However,studies on exosome proteins are relatively few and lack validation in *** the present study,we identified an altered pathway in urinary exosomes from DN patients for the first ***,the altered ferroptosis-related proteins may represent novel candidate markers for early progression of disease and/or early treatment effects.

Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is a severe complication of diabetes,characterized by changes in kidney structure and *** natural product rosmarinic acid(RA)has demonstrated therapeutic effects,including anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative-stress,in renal damage or *** this study,we characterized the heterogeneity of the cellular response in kidneys to DN-induced injury and RA treatment at single cell *** results demonstrated that RA significantly alleviated renal tubular epithelial injury,particularly in the proximal tubular S1 segment and on glomerular epithelial cells known as podocytes,while attenuating the inflammatory response of macrophages,oxidative stress,and cytotox-icity of natural killer *** findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms by which RA alleviates kidney damage,oxidative stress,and inflammation,offering valuable guidance for the clinical application of RA in the treatment of DN.

A polynomial algorithm for finding (g,f)-colorings orthogonal to stars in bipartite graphs

Let G be a bipartite graph with vertex set V(G) and edge set E(G), and let g and f be two nonnegative integer-valued functions defined on V(G) such that g(x) ≤f(x)for every vertex x of V(G). A(g,f)-coloring of G is a generalized edge-coloring in which each color appears at each vertex x at least g(x) and at most f(x) times. In this paper a polynomial algorithm to find a(g, f)-coloring of a bipartite graph with some constraints using the minimum number of colors is given. Furthermore, we show that the results in this paper are best possible.

Partitioning series-parallel multigraphs into υ*-excluding edge covers

We prove that, for any given vertex υ* in a series-parallel graph G, its edge set can be partitioned into k = min{κ'(G) + 1,δ(G)} subsets such that each subset covers all the vertices of G possibly except for υ*, where δ(G) is the minimum degree of G and κ'(G) is the edge-connectivity of G. In addition, we show that the results in this paper are best possible and a polynomial time algorithm can be obtained for actually finding such a partition by our proof.

STUDY ON SPATIAL LANDSCAPE PATTERN OF YANTAI city BASED ON RS AND GIS

Influenced by artificial factors, landscape pattern of Yantai city, Shandong Province changes continuously. Revealing its landscape pattern and its changing process has a practical significance for the urban development and layout. Zhifu District, development Zone, Laishan District and Fushan District in Yantai city were selected to study the landscape pattern. Remote sensing technology was used to obtain landscape information of different periods. Under the support of Geographic Information System (GIS), the spatial landscape pattern of Yantai city was analyzed and simulated by using various special quantitative analysis models. The analysis shows that built-up area lies in the center of Yantai city, the outside is vegetable land, irrigated land, dry land, garden land and woodland.

Lung cancer is one of the most lethal cancers in china because of its high incidence and *** decarboxylase （ODC）,an important enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis,is increased incancer *** chemotherapeutic agents aimed at reducing ODC expression show inhibitory effects oncancer cell growth,so ODC can be useful in gene diagnosis and gene therapy of *** this study,weexamined the effect of antisense ODC on lung cancer cells.A-549 cells were infected with rAd-ODC/Ex3as,a recombinant adenovirus containing the cytomegalovirus promoter,green fluorescent protein gene and 120bp antisense *** cell cycle was evaluated by flow cytometry.A nude mouse xenograft model wasused in the tumorigenicity *** transcription-polymerase chain reaction,Western blot and immuno-histochernistry were used to study the expressions of ODC on lung *** was found that the growth ofcells infected with rAd-ODC/Ex3as was substantially inhibited and cells were arrested at *** with rAd-ODC/Ex3as can suppress tumor formation in a nude mouse xenograft *** of ODC mRNA and ODC protein levels in lung cancer tissues was significantly higher than thatin normal tissues （Pdevelopment of lung cancer.

Establishment and Application of a TaqMan Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction Assay for Rubella Virus RNA

The aim of this study was to establish and apply a real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） for rubella virus （RV） ***,the primer and TaqMan probeconcentrations,as well as reaction temperatures were optimized to establish an efficient real-time quantitativeRT-PCR assay for RV ***,an RV-specific PCR amplicon was made as an external standard toestimate the linearity,amplification efficiency,analytical sensitivity and reproducibility of the real timequantitative ***,the assay was applied to quantify RV RNA in clinical samples for rubella *** RV-specific PCR amplicon was prepared for evaluation of the assay at 503 bp,and its original concentrationwas 2.75×10～9 copies/μ*** real time quantitative assay was shown to have good linearity （R2=0.9920）,highamplification efficiency （E=1.91）,high sensitivity （275 copies/ml）,and high reproducibility （variation coefficientrange,from 1.25% to 3.58%）.Compared with the gold standard,the specificity and sensitivity of the assayin clinical samples was 96.4% and 86.4%,***,the established quantitative RT-PCRmethod is a simple,rapid,less-labored,quantitative,highly specific and sensitive assay for RV RNA.

The Effect of Anti-Human CD134 Monoclonal Antibody on Phytohemagglutinin-Induced mRNA Expression of Perforin in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

CD134, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, plays a crucial role in T cell survival. In this study, peripheral blood mononuclear cells （PBMCs） stimulated with phytohemagglutinin （PHA, 50 μg/ml） were treated by CD134 mAb （1μg/ml, 5 μg/ml, 10 μg/ml） for 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h. The level of perforin mRNA was measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） technique. Our data showed that the expression of perforin mRNA in PBMCs was down-regulated by CD134 mAb in a dose-dependent manner in range of 1 μg/ml to 5 μg/ml and dropped down to its minimum on 24 h （p 〈 0.05）. The level of perforin mRNA reached a plateau when the concentration of CD134 mAb exceeded 5 μg/ml. In conclusion, CD134 mAb can inhibit perforin expression, which may enhance the ability of T cells for survival. Cellular ＆ Molecular Immunology. 2005;2（6）： 467-471.
