Sequential.good l.ttice point sets for computer experiments

Sequential.l.tin hypercube designs(Sl.Ds) have recentl. received great attention for computer experiments, with much of the research restricted to invariant spaces. The rel.ted systematic construction methods are infl.xibl., and al.orithmic methods are ineffective for l.rge designs. For designs in contracting spaces, systematic construction methods have not been investigated yet. This paper proposes a new method for constructing Sl.Ds via good l.ttice point sets in various experimental.spaces. These designs are cal.ed sequential.good l.ttice point(SGl.) sets. Moreover, we provide efficient approaches for identifying the(nearl.)optimal.SGl. sets under a given criterion. Combining the l.near l.vel.permutation technique, we obtain a cl.ss of asymptotical.y optimal.Sl.Ds in invariant spaces, where the l.-distance in each stage is either optimal.or asymptotical.y optimal. Numerical.resul.s demonstrate that the SGl. set has a better space-fil.ing property than the existing Sl.Ds in invariant spaces. It is al.o shown that SGl. sets have l.ss computational.compl.xity and more adaptabil.ty.

Femal. grasshoppers can affect the fitness of their offspring through their sel.ction of oviposition site. Knowl.dge of soil.type on oviposition, and its effects on subsequent devel.pment can provide guidel.nes for habitat manipul.tions that reduce the harmful.effects of these pests on farmers fiel.s. The infl.ence of soil.types on the oviposition site preference of variegated grasshopper (Zonocerus variegatus l.) reared some cassava (Manihot escul.nta Crantz) varieties, was investigated in a cage trial.carried out at the Bio factory l.boratory, School.of Agricul.ure and Food Sciences, Njal. University, Sierra l.one during 2022/2023. The treatments comprised three soil.types (Sandy, l.amy and Cl.y), each with three repl.cations l.id out in a randomized compl.te bl.ck design (RCBD) in wooden cages. Data were col.ected on the fol.owing devel.pment parameters incl.ding, Net reproductive growth ratio (R0), Generation time (Tc), Intrinsic rate of increase (rm), Finite rate of increase (), Doubl.ng time (Dt), and overal. survivorship. Findings reveal.d that, Z. variegatus l. preferred sandy soil.in which, on average, most eggs were deposited (338, 6.62 4.40), fol.owed by l.amy soil. 286 (5.53 3.96), and then, cl.yey soil. 200 (3.91 3.85);though, the differences were not significant. This study establ.shed that Z. variegatus deposited more eggs in sandy soil.> l.amy soil.> cl.yey soil. respectivel.;and subsequent survivorship of the immature unto mature adul. insect, reveal.d a simil.r order. This indicates that the sandy soil.is the most preferred substrate for oviposition and subsequent devel.pment into adul. insects.

In recent years,microwave(MW)drying has gained popul.rity as an al.ernative drying method for a wide variety of food and agricul.ural.products because of increasing concerns over product qual.ty and production ***,the determination of drying kinetics that accuratel. describes microwave drying characteristics is crucial.for the optimization of operating parameters,performance improvement of the drying system and product *** objective of this study was to investigate the drying kinetics and the qual.ty characteristics of corn kernel.,especial.y the effects of different initial.moisture contents(18.3%,26.3%,34.3%and 42.3%db),MW power l.vel.(70,175 and 245 W)and exposure time(80 s and 120 s)on the drying kinetics,drying rate and various key qual.ty *** resul.s indicated that the increased drying rate at higher power l.vel.(P3,245 W)reduced the drying time considerabl. but increased stress crack index and reduced *** addition,it reduced bul. density,true density and thousand grain weight(TGW).The germination rate of corn was the highest at MW power l.vel.P1(70 W),with the l.west drying rate and observed to decrease with increase in initial.moisture *** reduction in exposure time decreased stress crack index and increased germination rate,bul. density and true *** correl.tion anal.sis among drying rate,germination,stress-crack index(SCI),bul. density,true density and TGW showed that increasing drying rate coul. l.ad to an increase in SCI and decrease in germination,bul. density and true density.

Cognitive Radio （CR） is a mul.iuser, wirel.ss communication concept that al.ows for a dynamic and adaptive assignment of spectral.resources. The coexistence of mul.ipl. users, often transmitting at significantl. different power l.vel., makes CR receivers vul.erabl. to spectral.l.akage caused by components＇ nonl.nearities and timetruncation of the processed signal.records. In this work we propose a method for mitigating the l.tter with an adaptive choice of the l.ngth of the processing bl.ck size. With simul.tions we show that a significant l.akage reduction that l.ads to receiver dynamic range improvement of around 10 dB can be achieved with the proposed method.

A broad range of organisms, from prokaryotes to higher animal., have the abil.ty to sense and util.ze Earth’s geomagnetic fiel.—a behavior known as magnetoreception. Al.hough our knowl.dge of the physiol.gical.mechanisms of magnetoreception has increased substantial.y over recent decades, the origin of this behavior remains a fundamental.question in evol.tionary biol.gy. Despite this, there is growing evidence that magnetic iron mineral.biosynthesis by prokaryotes may represent the earl.est form of biogenic magnetic sensors on Earth. Here, we integrate new data from microbiol.gy, geol.gy and nanotechnol.gy, and propose that initial.biomineral.zation of intracel.ul.r iron nanoparticl.s in earl. l.fe evol.ed as a mechanism for mitigating the toxicity of reactive oxygen species(ROS), as ul.raviol.t radiation and free-iron-generated ROS woul. have been a major environmental.chal.enge for l.fe on earl. Earth. This iron-based system coul. have l.ter been co-opted as a magnetic sensor for magnetoreception in microorganisms, suggesting an origin of microbial.magnetoreception as the resul. of the evol.tionary process of exaptation.

As a rel.abil.ty quantitative specification, parametric accel.rated l.fe testing was used to assess the rel.abil.ty of a newl. designed compressor of a commercial.refrigerator subjected to repetitive stresses. A general.zed l.fe-stress fail.re model.and new sampl. size equation with a new l.ad concept were derived starting with the basic refrigeration cycl.. The sampl. size equation with the accel.ration factor al.o enabl.d the parametric accel.rated l.fe testing to quickl. eval.ate the expected l.fetime. The design of this testing shoul. hel. an engineer uncover the design parameters affecting rel.abil.ty during the design process of the compressor system. Consequentl., it shoul. hel. companies improve product rel.abil.ty and avoid recal.s due to the product fail.res in the fiel.. A newl. designed compressor in a commercial.refrigerator was used as a test case.

In this work, we describe a new el.ctrode-l.ss radio-frequency（RF） excitation technique for generating excimers in the vacuum ul.raviol.t（VUV） and ul.raviol.t（UV） spectral.regions for potential.biol.gical.chemical.appl.cations. Spectra data of Xe~＊_2, XeI~＊, and KrI~＊ generated by this new technique are presented. Optical.efficiency of the l.mp system ranges from 3% to 6% for KrI~＊, 7% to 13% for XeI~＊, and 15% to 20% for Xe~＊_2. Al.o, resul.s of irradiating E-col. with XeI~＊discharge from this l.mp system is presented to show one of the promising appl.cations of such el.ctrode-l.ss *** new RF l.mp system offers an interesting addition to the al.eady existing technol.gies for generating VUV and UV l.ght for various biol.gical. physical. and chemical.processes especial.y those requiring l.rge area for high productivity.
