Status epilepticus as a complication after COVID-19 mRNA-1273 vaccine:A case report

BACKGROUND We present a rare case of status epilepticus in a 56-year-old man which arose as a complication after vaccination with the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)mRNA-1273 *** patient's history included well-compensated secondary *** root cause of the situation was a fever which had developed as a side effect of the *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man received the first dose of mRNA-1273 vaccine against the severe acute respiratory *** vaccine was administered intramuscularly(100 mg,0.5 mL).The next morning the man was found to be suffering from fever and headaches while at the same time experiencing general *** lost consciousness suddenly and experienced generalized clonic seizures which turned into status *** the Emergency Medical Service arrived the patient was unconscious with spontaneous breathing and generalized clonic *** was necessary to administer diazepam *** was also necessary to administer high doses of levetiracetam and temporary *** status epilepticus was brought under control approximately 90 min after the patient’s transport to the Emergency Department.A follow-up electroencephalogram no longer revealed abnormal indications of epileptic *** patient was temporarily hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit and after seven days care was discharged without any further apparent *** There is currently no specific treatment against ***,the benefits of COVID-19 vaccine protection outweigh the risks.

Weak influence of natural vegetation in urban green spaces compared to agricultural ecosystems on House Martin populations:Insights from nationwide citizen science data in the Czech Republic

The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in ***,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline *** fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science *** a generalised linear mixed-effect model(GLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech Republic spanning *** analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin *** specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin *** urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,GreenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House *** advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations.

High temperature oxidation of inoculated high Si/SiMo ductile cast irons in air and combustion atmospheres

The present work aims to investigate the effect of heating temperature(400,600 and 800°C)and inoculating elements(Ca,Ca-Ba,Ca-RE)on oxidation behavior of ductile irons containing 5.25%Si and 4.8%Si-2.3%Mo in dry air and combustion gas containing water vapour(natural gas burning).The oxidation is influenced by the gas atmosphere type,the iron alloying system,and the inoculating elements depending on the heating *** weight gain increases from 0.001%-0.1%(400°C)to 0.05%-0.70%(600°C)and up to 0.10%-2.15%(800°C).No particular effects of the considered influencing factors are found when heating at 400°C,while at 600°C,mainly the oxidation gas atmosphere type shows a visible *** the highest heating temperature of 800°C,a limited increase of the weight gain is found for dry air atmosphere(up to 0.25%),but it drastically increases for combustion atmospheres(0.65%-2.15%).The water vapour presence in the combustion atmosphere is an important oxidising factor at 600-800°*** alloying system appears to influence the oxidation behavior mainly at a heating temperature of 800°C in the combustion atmosphere,as evidenced by the lower weight gain in 5.25%silicon cast *** effects of inoculating elements increase with the heating temperature,with Ca and Ba-FeSi inoculation generally showing better *** inoculated with CaRE-FeSi exhibit a higher degree of *** results are in good relationship with the previous reported data:Ca-Ba-inoculation system appears to be better than simple Ca for improving the graphite parameters,while RE-bearing inoculant negatively affects the compactness degree of graphite particles in high-Si ductile *** the lower compactness degree is typical for graphite nodules in high-Si ductile irons,which negatively affects the oxidation resistance,it is necessary to employ specific metallurgical treatments to improve nodule ***,in particular,is a potential method to achieve this improvement.

Impact of agricultural landscape structure on the patterns of bird species diversity at a regional scale

The loss of bird species diversity is a crucial problem in the European agricultural *** in the area coverage of major land cover types has been mentioned as one of the main factors responsible for bird biodiversity *** this study,we focused on the impact of landscape matrix characteristics on bird species richness and on Faith’s phylogenetic diversity index on a spatial scale of 1000-m radius around the measured occurrence *** investigated how land cover composition affects bird diversity on the landscape scale using nationwide citizen science *** total,168,739 records of bird occurrence in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic during growing season from 2009 to 2019 were *** found that the presence of water bodies and wetlands significantly corresponded to the areas of highest bird species *** also revealed that the presence of forests(~60%of the forest in the Czech Republic is occupied by commercial forests),urban areas and arable land were negatively associated with bird species richness and phylogenetic ***(both coniferous and deciduous)and urban habitats were found to have a tendency to host a clustered phylogenetic community structure in comparison with wetland and arable land.A strong negative association between forest proportion and bird diversity led us to conclude that the expansion of the forest(with simple species composition,horizontal and vertical structure)could be one of the critical drivers of the decline of bird species diversity in the European agricultural *** the other hand,our results also pointed out that small woody features(i.e.,woodlots)and scattered woodland shrub vegetation were one of the main landscape characteristics supporting a bird diversity in rural *** is in concordance with other studies which mention these landscape structures as important elements for nesting and foraging of farmland *** thus recommend to maintain and restor

Tunneling of Relativistic Bosons Induced by Magnetic Fields in the Magnetar’s Crust

The present work is devoted to the study of bosons evolving in the frozen magnetar＇s crust endowed with an ultra-strong magnetic field orthogonal to an electric field, both described by periodic functions. We discuss the quantum tunneling process through the one-dimensional potential barrier along Oz. The solutions to the Klein- Gordon equation are expressed in terms of Mathieu＇s functions which, for computable particle＇s energy range, are turning from oscillatory to exponentially growing modes along Oz. Within the Jeffreys Wentzel Kramers- Brillouin framework, the transmission coefficient is computed for the particle momentum in the middle of the instability range.

Definition of candidate Essential Variables for the monitoring of mineral resource exploitation

The practice of raw material extraction has a high impact on the environment and represents a potential threat to the health and thriving of local *** concept of Extractive Essential Variables(EEVs)are explored in order to propose variables that can be used to quantify the environmental footprint of mineral *** the interdependence of mining activities with social,economic and environmental issues,the variables target the development of monitoring tools for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).The identification of EEVs is based on the use of Earth Observation products in the field of mineral resources exploitation.A list of variables is proposed based on three classes of Essential Variables(EVs):installation and exploration phase,mineral extraction,and ore *** variables take into account the impacts of mining on the hydrology,land,water resources and the atmosphere of the area subjected to mineral *** of the variables is implemented as an operational workflow addressing SDG15,“life on land”.The workflow is intended to assess the area of forest ecosystem lost due to the presence of a mining *** data on the extent of mining concessions and forest cover are combined using ArcGIS^(TM).The workflow is successively translated into a Unix script to automatize the process of data *** script is developed using the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library(GDAL).The use of a Virtual Laboratory Platform(VLab),a web-service-based access platform,increases the accessibility of data and resources and the re-use of the *** work is a first attempt to propose a framework of EEVs,derived data workflows,while the underlying methodology,partially based on scientific publications and on personal reasoning,still needs to be tested and,improved based on expertise in the sector.

随着电动自行车用户及行人数量的增加,行人和电动自行车用户的安全受到广泛关注。由于该类出行者与机动车共用道路,容易诱发交通事故,导致出行者遭受严重伤害,此类伤害程度远高于机动车与机动车之间的碰撞。因此有必要针对影响行人交通事故的因素开展深入研究,以降低或消除该类交通事故的发生,保障出行安全。本文基于湖南省2014年至2016年发生的8172交通的事故数据,筛选影响事故的主要因素,包括车辆违规驾驶行为(闯红灯,超度、疲劳、逆向和酒驾等;行人违规(行人在机动车道上行走)和环境因素(能见度,照明条件和事故发生的时间等),研究分析影响骑行者的伤害严重性和撞车事故中行人受伤的核心因素。主要研究内容及结论主要包括以下两个方面:(1)结合K-Means聚类分析法和多项式Logistic回归模型(MNLR)方法,解析事故因素对死亡,重伤和轻伤三种不同行人碰撞伤害严重程度的影响。研究结果表明:驾驶员的疲劳、酒驾、闯红灯、逆向违规驾驶行为、行人在车道上行走,能见度,行人年龄(65岁以上),天气条件和道路类型对行人的伤害严重程度具有显著影响。(2)提出了分类树和逻辑回归模型的组合方法,以获取不同群体的电动自行车驾手遭受严重伤害的潜在风险因素。回归树分析研究表明,城市地区55岁以上的非职业驾驶员遭受严重伤害的可能性更高;回归分析结果表明,高度道路等危险因素对不同组的伤害具有显著影响,而主要因素仅对特定组具有显著影响。

Ni-induced stepwise capacity increase in Ni-poor Li-rich cathode materials for high performance lithium ion batteries

Li-rich cathode materials have been considered as promising candidates for high-energy lithium ion batteries （LIBs）. In this study, we report a new series of Li-rich materials （Li[Li1/B-2x/BMn2/3-x/3Nix]O2 （0.09 ≤x≤ 0.2）） doped with small amounts of Ni as cathode materials in LIBs, which exhibited unusual phenomenon of capacity increase up to tens of cycles due to the continuous activation of the Li2MnO3 phase. Both experimental and computational results indicate that unlike commonly studied Ni-doped Li-rich cathode materials, smaller amounts of Ni doping can promote the stepwise Li2MnO3 activation to obtain increased specific capacity and better cycling capability. In contrast, excessive Ni will over-activate the Li2MnO3 and result in a large capacity loss in the first cycle. The Lil.25Mn0.625Ni0.12sO2 material with an optimized content of Ni delivered a superior high capacity of -280 mAh.g-1 and good cycling stability at room temperature.

Autologous mesenchymal stem cells applied on the pressure ulcers had produced a surprising outcome in a severe case of neuromyelitis optica

Recent studies provided evidence that mesenchymal stem cells（MSCs） have regenerative potential in cutaneous repair and profound immunomodulatory properties making them a candidate for therapy of neuroimmunologic diseases. Neuromyelitis optica（NMO） is an autoimmune, demyelinating central nervous system disorder characterized by a longitudinally extensive spinal cord lesion. A 46-year-old male diagnosed with NMO had relapses with paraplegia despite treatment and developed two stage IV pressure ulcers（PUs） on his legs. The patient consented for local application of autologous MSCs on PUs. MSCs isolated from the patient＇s bone marrow aspirate were multiplied in vitro during three passages and embedded in a tridimensional collagen-rich matrix which was applied on the PUs. Eight days after MSCs application the patient showed a progressive healing of PUs and improvement of disability. Two months later the patient was able to walk 20 m with bilateral assistance and one year later he started to walk without assistance. For 76 months the patient had no relapse and no adverse event was reported. The original method of local application of autologous BM-MSCs contributed to healing of PUs. For 6 years the patient was free of relapses and showed an improvement of disability. The association of cutaneous repair, sustained remission of NMO and improvement of disability might be explained by a promotion/optimization of recovery mechanisms in the central nervous system even if alternative hypothesis should be considered. Further studies are needed to assess the safety and efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells in NMO treatment.
